Try something different
Basically I wanted to try something different, I usually play Pearl. But I saw this Ludwig Supralite and thought I'd give it a try. It's a nice drum for the price, plays very well low, mid, and also very high. In all it's a great drum right out of the box. I've always wanted a 8-in snare but never thought I'd get one in metal. This 8x14 snare sounds and plays excellent. And thanks to Sweetwater, it was very fast shipping and great customer service like always. But I figured a package came from factory, because there is no Sweetwater bag of goodies inside.
Ludwig snare
After adding a 30 strand snare and Evans HD coated head this drum has great low end sound. Great bang for the buck!!
Dont let the price fool you, Great Value for a great snare Drum!
If you like that great Ludwig snare sound, as only Ludwig can do it, it fits the bill. Love it. I would only replace this drum with a Supraphonic LM402.
Ludwig supralite 14x8
Very good drum for the money. Sounds great plays great. Nice throw off. I upgraded with a emperor x batter and Puresound custom pro 24 brass wire and it sounds amazing!
Best snare for the money
I'm new to drums, and this is my first snare purchase. I wanted something that has a big sound without breaking the bank. This is doing the job. I am happy with this snare.
I like big drums, and I can not lie.
Ludwig sound. Ludwig quality. Most definitely one of the best sounding snare drums for the price.
Pops like a gunshot!
I am admittedly a Ludwig snob but if you were wanting that Supraphonic sound but dont have the cash, this drum does it just fine. I have had Supraphonics in the past but could not afford one. I was skeptical but made the purchase anyway and I am very happy I did. I have had it for a week, it is replacing a Ludwig maple. I also ordered a evans G2 (has the effect of about a half piece of moongel) and the only issue I have had is that after about 5 hours of playing, I had to tighten up the strainer, I suspect a rubber o ring would stop it from backing off. I get that GUNSHOT without have to hit it like I am trying to shatter the head. If you are looking for that Ludwig sound, this drum keeps that reputation intact. Unfortunately Sweetwater would not be the place I order it from. They drug their butt getting it shipped and used a shipper that just parked it in phoenix causing me to receive it 4 days later than advertised.
Crispy
I have the 8x14 its got a nice crispy sound ,i use the factory heads so yeah i get the ludwig sound thats all purpose .
Killer Snare
This is the best "bang for your buck" snare ever. I'm in heaven every time I play.

Outstanding value
About 8 months ago I purchased the 6.5 x 14 inch version of this drum and liked it so much that I went and bought the 8 inch depth as well, and I never thought I'd be able to say this, but I like this one even better. For starters, it has one of the widest tuning ranges I've ever experienced in ANY snare drum. It will go low and fat like old school Phil Rudd or Stan Lynch or you can bring it up and get into John Bonham territory, or you can even go up from there into classic Steve Jordan range. Yes, it is a wet snare drum, but a thicker head or some moongel will take care of that. Personally, I like the ring. It's part of the sound, and once the band gets going, you're not going to hear it anyway. Now, there are a few downsides. The snare strainer isn't the best, but it's plenty functional, and it comes with triple flanged hoops (I swapped out the batter side for die cast) but the snare wires are just fine. You will probably want to swap out the stock batter head for the flavor of your choice, but for $200, I believe you'd be hard pressed to find a better value in a steel snare drum. I've heard people rave about the Yamaha Stage Custom steel shell, (I have that one as well) and yes, it's a good drum, but nowhere near as good as a Supralite. And kudos to Ed at Sweetwater for always being on top of everything!
Pretty Great!
I bought one of these on a whim and am really surprised and pleased with how it sounds. It has pretty good tone, it's not as fat as i thought it would be though, nice crack and it doesn't feel choked. Would definitely recommend!
Sounds Awesome !
This thing sounds awesome, super snappy and crisp.
Stock heads sound great too.
