Gibson Les Paul Standard '50s Plain Top Electric Guitar - Ebony Reviews
Inspired by the legendary Les Pauls of the late 1950s, Gibson’s Les Paul Standard ’50s Plain Top delivers all the best of golden-era Gibson tones, looks, and vibe. This guitar’s mahogany body and maple top deliver a one-two sonic punch of warmth and clarity, marked by the mammoth sustain that’s defined the Les Paul since 1952. Under the hood, two Burstbucker pickups brim with an open, airy, and dynamic PAF-style punch. Fans of a chunky neck will be sure to appreciate the old-school chunk of the mahogany neck’s ’50s Vintage profile, while the 12-inch-radius Indian rosewood fingerboard’s 22 frets are Plek’d to perfection. A thin nitrocellulose finish completes the package, allowing your guitar gracefully age and develop over time — just like Gibson’s original 1950s Les Pauls!

Was skeptical of new Gibsons
I had been scouring reverb for used Les Pauls, but living in an isolated place, I was apprehensive about buying a used guitar sight unseen. Gibson USA has had well-documented QC (and taste) issues for a while, but Mark Bruhn convinced me that they had turned things around. I figured I might as well check it out, since I could at least return a guitar to Sweetwater.
My Les Paul Standard was exactly what I was looking for. I spent DAYS eyeballing the guitar to find something wrong with it. While there was one TINY tooling mark nears the toggle cavity on the back, everything else was stellar. The sound, the look, and the FEEL are all next level. The action is almost too perfect. Switching back and forth from my Fenders to my LP feels like different universes. The Les Paul is just butter, but whether I'm playing jazz on standard tuning or shedding some doom riffs in drop C, the thing delivers.
Especially for the price, I couldn't be happier with this guitar.
Thanks, Mark!
