Gibson Adam Jones Les Paul Standard Electric Guitar - Antique Silverburst Reviews
Tool's Adam Jones is one of the industry's most creative guitarists, able to combine a myriad of high-level — and many unorthodox — playing techniques into a one-of-a-kind style. Designed in collaboration with Adam himself, the Gibson Adam Jones Signature Les Paul Standard is a solidbody electric guitar that commands instant attention. This axe features classic Les Paul construction, including a solid mahogany body and maple top, along with a '70s-style mahogany neck. Technical players will appreciate the Adam Jones Les Paul Standard's carved neck heel, and its ebony fingerboard makes everything from riffing to soloing seem effortless. Plug in, and this Les Paul churns out metallic aggression and vintage-tinged PAF tones in equal measure, thanks to a well-chosen duo of humbuckers. The Adam Jones Les Paul Standard is armed with top-shelf hardware, including a Graph Tech nut, Nashville Tune-o-matic bridge, and Grover Rotomatic tuners. You also get a number of Adam Jones-approved aesthetic add-ons. Whether you're a die-hard Tool fan or simply a serious-minded metal player, the Adam Jones Les Paul Standard delivers the lachrymological goods.

This guitar is a custom wrapped in a Standard
This guitar delivers on all levels
Love it
I've heard Gibson's QA has fallen off but I haven't found anything wrong with this one. Stays in tune, intonation is on point, no sharp edges on the frets, no drips or issues that I could find on the paint and it sounds great. Really enjoying this one
Les Paul
This guitar is awesome. The pick ups scream!! That's why I got this guitar!!
It rocks
Guitar rocks plain and simple, if you're looking for a guitar that sounds like what Adam Jones plays then look no further than his guitar. The specs on this standard Les Paul did it for me, and your a T00L fan as well than this is a brainer purchase.
Adam Jones Les Paul Standard
Killer guitar. I've only ever owned Studios before and this Standard is KILLER!!!
Looks and sound are beyond amazing!
My First Gibson
I've been playing for almost 25 years now, and (of course) I've wanted a Gibson Les Paul since day 1! And I've I've always wondered: "Are Gibsons REALLY worth all that money??
I had this particular one in a wish list of mine for a couple a year or so, and an opportunity came up that I could pass on.
I've owned guitars from $100 to $3000, and in my opinion, this guitar is worth EVERY PENNY!! I love my epiphone wino, it's an amazing axe, but when you play this silverburst you realize why it's 3x the price. It's absolutely outstanding. I've never played anything like it. The neck is smooth as glass and the action is spot on! Plus the paint job is gorgeous.
The silverburst is 5 stars all the way. I can't wait to play this thing every day for the rest of my life. Buy it!
...And just for the record, I wasn't knocking the Wino (what so ever!) Also a killer axe! I honestly would have paid double for it, it's THAT good!
Buy them both!
A Solid Performer with a Famous Name Attached To It
The Adam Jones Les Paul Standard is a stand out version of a Gibson guitar. The silver burst finish is beautiful and is complimented by the silver hardware. The ebony fretboard gives it a unique appearance compared to the normal rosewood that you see on most Standards. The neck feels a little chunky at first, but the more you play it, the better it feels. And the pickups are stellar! The DC High Gain is screamer that can pull off crisp trebles by simply turning down the volume a bit. All in all, this guitar is worth a look if you are trying to find a flexible guitar that to play both cleans and dirty sounds.
My First Gibson Guitar... Well Worth the Money!!!
This guitar is badass. The main reasons I chose this Les Paul are: 1. I am a huge TOOL fan, 2. I love the look of the "antique silverburst" finish on it and ebony fingerboard, 3. The sound demo for the bridge pickup had me sold!
I couldn't be happier with this purchase. The guitar plays SO WELL and I recommend getting it from Sweetwater because they made sure that thing is set up perfectly. I do a ton of tinkering with my guitars to get them jussst right, but i have owned this for over a month, played it every day, and I still haven't had to mess with the action or anything. I think this guitar just instantly made me a better player lol. 10/10 Would recommend if you're an experienced player so you can really appreciate just how good this instrument feels in your hands. I don't know if it's any better than other Les Paul standards but if you like the color then go for it and you won't be disappointed. Nice case too.
AJ Les Paul Standard
I've been looking at Les Paul's since the 6th grade I'm almost 40 now and this is my first one. It's nothing short of awesome. Worth every penny. It has good tuning stability and the pick ups are fantastic. Really there's nothing else I could have asked for. Neck is super comfy. Not to think or too thin. I've owned lots of high end guitars and this is right up there with them.
Amazing
This is my new favorite guitar. I did not expect this guitar to be this good. I did not expect Gibson to make a guitar that plays, looks, and sounds so fantastic. This guitar was set up perfectly right out of the box. I didn't have to do a thing to it and it played like a dream. It's so much fun to play. If you play heavy music buy this.
This Gibson Adam Jones Is Killer!
Just down right awesome! Killer tone man! Feels great in hand and smooth deep tone with extreme sustain. This is real Bro's. This Les Paul Standard is badass. No two ways about it. Tool tones all the way. This bridge pickup is great. No flaws whatsoever on my silverburst. Just buy it!
Amazing Guitar
This guitar RIPS! Phenomenal sustain, gorgeous tone, super low action makes this very easy to play. Highly recommended.
Slam Dunk from Gibson (+TOOL!!!!!)
They've needed the silverburst finish back in the lineup for WAY TOO LONG - not counting the Adam Jones Custom runs, this is it! And for $ more than a regular LP Standard you get an ebony board, real MOP inlays, an aged Silverburst finish and exclusive neck profile (smack in between 50s and 60s in my hands anyway, based on my LP Jr (50s) and SG standard slim taper neck).
The pickups are awesome, but HOT HOT HOT...something about the DC High Gain humbucker I'm still working out. It's based on a Seymour Duncan DDJ/SH-6, and to my ears is much rounder sounding, A LOT more low end. I'm not completely sold on it yet (over an actual DDJ), but as a new pickup from Gibson it fills a much needed gap. Burstbucker 2 in the neck is JUICY, and the middle position is my favorite of any dual-humbucker guitar I've ever owned. It's SO woody, and has enough low end that I'm considering flipping the magnet in the neck for an out-of-phase middle...because there is low end to spare.
All in all very happy with this guitar. I got a heavier one (10lbs 14oz) and it's still hard to put down. It does hurt my back, and I feel Gibson owes me a few trips to the chiropractor... but all in the name of TONE!!!
No Guitar is Perfect, This One is Close
This guitar is a sound MACHINE. First off, the guitar is gorgeous with the antique silverburst slightly aged to achieve that yellowish green hue. When I picked up this guitar, you instantly notice the heft of this instrument. My particular guitar was one full pound heavier than all of the other options. It arrived in near perfect tune and set up beautifully. My only complaint is that it arrived with a minor chip on the headstock that was not shown or indicated on any of the photos. The sound is your trypical beefy Les Paul sound. However, the bridge pickup is a metal-chugging monster when cranked. The middle setting still has some firepower, but the neck setting is deep, rich and buttery smooth. The knurled metal position switch is a nice touch and the ebony fingerboard is beautiful - especially right after conditioning. The Adam Jones truss rod cover is a bit tacky in my opinion. Fortunately, they provide a blank one to swap out. This guitar will appeal to metalheads, TOOL fanboys and those looking for a gorgeous, incredibly versatile guitar.
One of my favorite
It has the sound I've been searching for and didn't know it.
Holds tuning well.
Weighs exactly 10lbs
Chunky neck feels great to play, though I prefer thin neck profile.
It was setup nice out of the box. I did my own setup with 9-46 hybrid set, plays beautifully.
The paint is deep, rich, and feels incredible. I was in a local store looking at an Epiphone silverburst for fun. I was taken back how much different it looked and felt.
The bridge pickup
-sounds very crisp and articulates the mid/high end in a way that really stands out when compared to my other bridge pickups.
(EMG-81, Seymour Duncan SH-8 Invader, Kiesel Lithium, Ibanez Super 70 Humbucker, Seymour Duncan Pearly Gates SH-PG1B, Fender V-Mod II Single Coil)
The neck pickup
-sounds very good. Very fat/blue's sounding while remaining clear when compared to my other neck pickups.
(EMG-85, Seymour Duncan SH-10 Full Shred, EMG-60, Kiesel Lithium, Ibanez Super 7F Single Coil, Seymour Duncan '59 SH1N Humbucker, Fender V-Mod II Single Coil)
I like to boost my pickups with an Ibanez TS9 -drive/tone all the way down, volume all the way up. It adds a pinch of power without going overboard.
I normally play thrash, doom, 80s, classic heavy metal on Floyd Rose guitars. It's nice to take a step back and use a hardtail with 22 frets.
Great Guitar, but not quite A.J.
I agree with the reviewer Israel 100%. I'm not gonna argue about this guitar's tone or playability, it's fantastic. (Although the Tuners on mine leave a little bit to be desired). But it's not exactly an Adam Jones model. For that you'll need to get either the Epiphone (don't just take my word, watch Trogly's review on it) or shell out near new-car money on the Gibson Signature Custom.
This is a great playing, unique Les Paul Standard for sure. But as far as A.J. specs and tone goes, Epiphone did it better.
Not Exactly Adam.
So the Epiphone version & the 20k version got this right.
The custom neck pickup sounds great. that said it needs tuners that stay in tune and an actual Seymour duncan SH-B6 in order to truly get the sound, both the Epiphone and 20k version got correct!
