It’s a keeper!

By Dave from The basement on December 20, 2023 Music Background: 30 plus years as an unemployed basement guitarist

I hadn't intended on buying another guitar but kept hearing good things about these so my interest had definitely been piqued. I came across this unburst finish and really liked it. There was a different one in particular that I initially liked the best but it ended up selling before ultimately making the decision to buy it. I reached out to my sales engineer Chris Leonard and he sent me a couple of links to ones that weren't up on the website yet. The first one is the one that I bought but the high resolution pictures on the site didn't do it proper justice and it was more aesthetically pleasing to me than anything else I've seen so far. I did need to slightly tune it, but that was expected with the temperature fluctuation and shipping. After hearing the warmth clarity of a "C" chord, I knew for sure it was worth it.

What a guitar

By Steven Rossi from Durham, NC on December 11, 2023

So I was hesitant to buy a guitar online but I read a lot of positive reviews from Sweetwater buyers. I took quite a bit of time waiting for a Les Paul to show up in the gallery that pushed all the right buttons for me. I had settled on an Unburst but also wanted a nice dark fretboard and one with a lighter color overall and also not too heavy. When one popped up that I liked I decided to give it a try. Oh my this thing is gorgeous. I had Sweetwater do a setup for me, which I was also a bit hesitant about. I gave Pablo very specific directions about how I wanted it setup and man they nailed it. Perfect! Without a doubt the best playing guitar I've ever picked up. I love the pups, although I have rewired the neck to 50s wiring and I also changed the tuner buttons, not the Grover tuners just the buttons. Don't care for the chrome kidney buttons wanted the 50s vintage look with out the Kluson vintage style tuners. Got the Pearloid buttons from Hipshot. I may rewire the bridge pup as well, I play a lot at home with the volume rolled off is the only reason I rewired. If I was going to say anything negative it would be that it took 1 days from purchase for the guitar to ship, but that was because I ordered a very specific setup, or so I was told. Worth it for sure. Couldn't be happier folks I'm loving Sweetwater right about now and loving my Les Paul Unburst, what a beautie!

Flawless

By Sweetwater Customer from IL on September 19, 2023 Music Background: Basement Guitarist

I got this guitar about a month ago. It is perfect. The setup was spot on and the finish is excellent. It sounds like a freight train when cranked and sounds awesome dialed down as well. Talk to Hayden, he can help you decide which wood grain and flame looks best. You won't be disappointed.

amazing gibson les paul!

By 1980s rock guitar from florida on August 23, 2023

i purchased the gibson 60s les paul standard unburst 2 1/2 years ago.this is the best guitar ive ever played and ive been playing guitar for over 40 years.the quality of the build/ finish and feel is the best out there.the tone is incredible so smooth and warm but also snarling /crunch and sweet bright highs that can be done with the tone knobs and selector switch.the neck feels amazing in my hands its thicker than my other guitars but feels perfect and is easy to play very easy.its a beast of a guitar/heavy but thats part of why the tone is so great thick heavy mahogany body and neck.i played at gc the 50s model and i was hooked but the 60s is a little hotter so i went with that because i play alot of hard rock/metal too.the cleans are indescribable thick and super super warm and ring out great also the sustain will carry on for a long time wow!now the finish ive always liked the typical herirage cherry sunburst finish like what i have on my epiphone les paul so i was looking for something different.the pics dont show how beautiful it really is the unburst is so nice and different its the most unique and stunning finish ive seen.ive purchased 3 more guitars since then and nothing can beat it nothing.its a lifetime dream guitar that you will never regret.if you want the best this is it.

Finally....Great job, Gibson!

By Sweetwater Customer from Florida on August 2, 2023

I have owned a few Gibson and Epiphone Les Paul's. I never could really bond with them, for various reasons and I sold them.

The 60's Unburst Standard checks off all the boxes for me:

No weight relief, no red in the finish, 50's wiring-without the pcb hum and 60's neck profile.

I switched out the Grover's for Kluson keystone's and replaced the truss rod cover with a blank retro from the 1950's.

It really is a work of art...pretty to look at and plays and sounds great.

Amazing

By RDRII from Lincoln, NE on July 5, 2023 Music Background: Hobbyist

I never ordered a high class guitar before and was a bit overwhelmed. Ray supported me by exploring my playing style, musical goals, financial situation, and even my personal tastes. After talking to about guitars I enjoyed playing and the ones I didn't he guided me to Gibson Les Paul standard 60s model. I have had it for several months now and couldn't be happier. He even checked up on me to see if I still enjoyed playing it. Customer service is the best I have ever experienced. I trust sweetwater and will not buy equipment anywhere else.

Best guitar I own

By Sweetwater Customer on February 24, 2023

Man I do not get the Gibson hate. Don't wanna sound like a snob, but you honestly just don't understand until you play an actual Standard or higher grade through a huge tube Amp.

This. Guitar. Rips.

Hands down my 2019 60's Les Paul Unburst is the best guitar I have ever owned. Playability is on point. Tone is on point, had considered a bareknuckle upgrade before playing it but what's the point these pickups are great! The top and finish is downright sexy, the unburst comes across as a well worn and faded cherry burst. Super phenomenal guitar and while Epiphones may be nice too, no, they are not on par with the Gibsons lol.

The best guitar I own!

By Gerry Mattei from Macomb, MI on February 22, 2023 Music Background: Professional guitarist and vocalist with Wayback Machine and Springsteet

I have owned numerous Gibsons in the past. I still own a 1970 Les Paul Custom and a 1979 Custom Shop ES-335. Both great guitars. I have been wanting to own a Les Paul Standard for quite some time, however, the Gibson's which I've bought and sold over the last 15 years were marginal at best. Shoddy workmanship; tuning issues; etc. I like a slim-taper profile neck, so I was drawn to the Les Paul Standard '60's model - especially the unburst nitro finish! While discussing with my Sales Engineer, Ryan, I pulled the trigger and ordered this guitar. By the way, I have been a loyal Sweetwater customer for many years now, and Ryan always takes care of me and provides outstanding service.
Two days later, the guitar arrived, as expected. I tried to distract myself as I let it sit for 8 hours or so before unpacking, and when i did, I was delighted at the beauty of this instrument. When I took it out and played it, it felt and sounded great! Whether plugged in or not, this guitar has great tone and tons of sustain. The workmanship on this guitar is top-notch. Everything is perfect! I own many beautiful guitars - Gretches, Fenders, G&L's, most of them great players. As I said earlier, I believe this LP to be the finest looking, sounding and playing guitar in my stable. Coming from the owner of about 30 guitars, this speaks volumes! Kudo's to Gibson for such an outstanding piece ... and kudo's to Sweetwater for allowing me to select this beauty and for delivering it to me ready to play!

Outstanding

By Robert Reece II from Lincoln, NE on November 18, 2022

Great customer care, great shipping, and a great product. I couldn't be happier. I received the exact guitar I picked out and it is incredibly fine tuned. The 60s neck profile is comfortable and chords feel easy. The pickups are responsive, forgiving, and classic. Sweetwater is now my go to music company.

Fantastic!

By Tom Schlatter from Montana on July 25, 2022 Music Background: Blues, 60s-70s rock

Playability is top notch, sound is great- un pluged is wonderful, a tube amp takes you from better to best!
Plus it looked good in the pictures, but in person it's so much better looking!
Thanks Sweetwater,
Tom Schlatter

Les Paul standard 60’s

By Anthony from Zionsville, Indiana on June 17, 2022 Music Background: Guitarist and woodwind alto sax player

This guitar has been a joy to play. I actually can't wait to pick it up and play it everyday. It is beautiful and smooth
It inspires me to grow as a guitarist and it won't be the last one I buy. Bravo Gibson!
Sweetwater is amazing and I'll do business with them going forward.

It doesn’t get much better!

By Jeff Winters from Ohio on May 25, 2022 Music Background: Hobbyist

The guitar fit and finish are great. The slim taper neck is ideal for a player like myself with smaller hands. The set up and action are nice and low, and is a pleasure to play. The plecked frets from the factory is another playability plus. The humbuckers sound great. This guitar is a big quality upgrade for Gibson. The only disappointment was the case, it is not up to the standard of this fine guitar at this price level. The lid is flimsy and has to be bent to get the locks to close.

KILLER... All the way around!

By James "Motor" Merritt from Saint Johns, FL on April 18, 2022 Music Background: Organ Grinder who lost his Monkey

I recently purchased a Les Paul Standard to add to my growing guitar collection. This beauty is the fifth guitar that I have purchased from Sweetwater. I love everything about the Sweetwater experience. Everything from the website to the amazing customer service, (Thank you Vaughn), (I think he has me on speed dial now). Anyway, each guitar has arrived in perfect tune and is even more beautiful than the photos sent to me prior to shipping. I love my new Les Paul. It has a crunchy, full sound, amazing action, and is a piece of art. My wife thinks I keep ordering from Sweetwater for the candy, but the bottom line is that I would never go anywhere else for the next additions to my collection... (and the list is far from filled). Vaughn and the Sweetwater team are amazing! My new Les Paul is extraordinary. Thank you all for doing what you do!!! To quote Arnold... "I'll be back!"

Been playing a long time...54 years...this might be the very best electric I've ever played. Not my first Les Paul and not my first from Sweetwater (thanks Aaron) but it's just a great electric any way you want to slice it! I own 14 instruments and this is the best one with a pickup.

Unburst - more like Unbelievable!

By Jason from California on November 23, 2021 Music Background: Rock, Jazz

Everything from the tone to the aesthetics of this guitar is perfect for me. I always loved the look of the classic bursts and this definitely evokes that same spirit. I was lucky enough to snag one of the lighter ones (barely over 9lbs) with a beautiful top and an almost black rosewood neck. The 61 burstbucker pickups sound incredible; just what I'm looking for in a Les Paul. My only complaint was that the nut was a bit wonky - all the nut slots were high, but two of them were extra high (the G and the high e). Luckily I was able to fix it with a few files and about 15 minutes of work. Everything else was perfect out of the box. Seems like Gibson has finally turned the corner and is back to producing quality instruments!

Great quality gibson les paul

By timothy cooper from Not applicable on November 23, 2021 Music Background: blue's and rock

hi i have a gibson les paul 2021 standard, its great to see gibson going back to what they do best, make fantastic guitars again,i have a new standard it lives up to everything that I expect from gibson. the finish is fantastic, that playability of the neck and the whole guitar it just right. the 61 bustbucker pickups are great pickup they do clean and and hard rockin at a touch of a button,
the neck is straight and nut is cut prefect. i use 11's on the guitar i did have to touch the truss rod, just tweeked the action to my liking and i. was off.
the cool new black case is very well made as well. and case candy and. tool. and the strap and lovely photo of the guitar.
im glad i didn't buy a classic or a studio one the standard is always the way to go. if you can afford it.
Thanks gibson for your hard work i know i will enjoy the guitar for long time.

Outstanding Sound and Gorgeous to Look At.

By Paul Linville on October 6, 2021 Music Background: Guitarist

I have had mine for almost a year now and this guitar has never let me down. I love the super full tones when clean and it's ability to growl when distorted. The Slim neck makes this the easiest and most comfortable guitar that I own. The quilted maple top and unburst fade make it a stunning piece to view.

Outstanding Guitar & Outstanding Service

By Brian Taylor on September 24, 2021 Music Background: Semi-retired from gigging, now lives in the studio

I've been looking for "the" Les Paul-style guitar to add to my stable. For the past 2 years I played every single cut I could get my hands on. What that experience taught me is that nothing plays & sounds like a Les Paul but a good Les Paul. And Sweetwater sold me the best LP I've ever played. Perfect finish, no tool marks anywhere & an absolutely beautiful AA top. Through every amp I have she roars with authority but sounds best when running into my Dr. Z Maz 18 head into a Z 1x12 with a Celestion Alnico Gold. Just a ripper & joy to play. Many thanks to Mike Winebrenner my sales engineer for helping scratch this one off my bucket list.

The best customer service PERIOD

By Kevin Bush from Ravenswood, WV on September 17, 2021 Music Background: 35 plus years playing music

I ordered this beautiful piece of art on a Saturday, Labor Day weekend. When I hit the pay button, it showed it was in stock. But when I looked at the invoice the next day it read "out of stock", "waiting on item". So, I called my sales engineer, Brenton to find out what was going on. He said, "give me a half hour to look into it". 20 minutes later he called back to say it was all taken care of and would ship that day. About the guitar. It's a Les Paul Standard, what else do you need to say.

This guitar will show you what you've been missing...

By D. Yates from Franklin, TN on July 6, 2021 Music Background: Been playing since I was 11 --classic rock

I'm pretty cheap, and rarely buy anything new. Have been enjoying playing my 1988 Japanese Strat, but after receiving my new 1960s Les Paul Standard (Unburst) a month ago, I truly discovered all I had been missing. Played perfectly out of the box (after a little customary string break-in, of course). It was like buying a brand-new Ferrari, after driving nothing but Fords -- all dynamics are accounted for, especially rich, rich tone, and sustain. I feel like a real Guitar Boss now. Playing it is effortless, and has made me a better player, in addition to wearing a silly grin the whole time I'm enjoying it. My Sweetwater Sales Engineer, Chris Lewis, provided wonderful service and delivery, and I'm quite pleased with the whole experience.

Just... Wow...

By Jeffrey Maxfield from New Orleans, LA on June 13, 2021

I NEVER leave reviews but I felt compelled. This thing is so beautiful. The sustain is unreal and the action feels impossible. Shipped completely set up and in perfect condition, it was practically still in tune when I opened the box. Best guitar I've ever owned. Thank you Sweetwater & Gibson!

All that and a bag of picks!

By Steve from NorCal on May 21, 2021

I'm not sure what gives me more joy with this guitar; playing it or just opening the case and looking at it! It's really a work of art that happens to be the best playing guitar I've ever owned.

First the basics, great workmanship, the ranges of different sounds from the three position pickup selector to tone and volume on each pickup are amazing - at home from jazz to metal and everything in between. Throw in a little chorus, delay, and Klon-esque OD and you have done serious sonic magic.

Couple of surprises( I've got mostly a Fender quiver if guitars, and didn't pay much attention to the scale length of this guitar compared to my fenders - but the LP is 3/4" shorter, which means less tension on the strings - great for bending strings and playability of any chord at any position on the neck. Also kudos to Gibson techs for setup - perfect for my tastes! Second, the neck radius is 12" (compared to 9.5" on my Fenders; takes a little getting used to the flatness in the width direction is a huge comfort - my fingers have so much room they're not sure what to do with the space.

Finally the sustain is not within the realm of normal acoustic physics but it is deep on this LP and lasts for ever. There's a pre-song solo on the Eagles song "get over it" where Joe Walsh hits a note, bends snd returns three times before moving on - and the note continues to ring. This is standard operating procedure on this guitar -very easy to do. Also, complicated pull offs (like on Lynard Skybsrd's "I know a little" are like spreading butter / sounds syrupy-great and easy to do.

This guitar has made me a better player. I had a 60's LP about 20 years ago and then sold it for something else. I don't think I'll be making that making that mistake again. Got the unburst finish and very happy with this guitar.

Undeniable Gibsony Awesoneness!!!

By Bill Alexander on April 26, 2021 Music Background: Armchair Rockstar. Guy who loves music and the instruments that make it!

After years of playing Stratocasters, I decided it was time to see if the legends of the Les Paul were true or not. After countless hours of videos, my first target was one of the 1959 Epiphone models but I wasn't very happy with the colors.

Having never purchased from Sweetwater, I submitted an email asking about them. I was contacted by Todd Cotten in a timely manner. He is very knowledgeable when it comes to Gibson/Epiphone and the Les Paul model in general. I didn't feel like he sold me anything. He let me decide for myself. I decided with the financing deal that I would try an Epiphone Custom (seperate review) and a Gibson 1960s Unburst.

It "Gibsoned" better than my wildest dreams the first time I plugged it into my little Fender Mustang 2 amp. I literally gave a loud Ric Flair "Wooooooo" after I bent the first note and the Gibson tone slapped me....for a long time because this thing sustains for days!

It has the power, the subtlety, the spank, softness, crunch, the woman tone, the metal tones.... a classic rock, jazz, country, heavy metal, blues machine.

I highly recommend one if you are thinking about it. I can say with 100% certainty that all of the hype around the new Gibson era is totally justified in the example I received. Talk to Todd Cotten at Sweetwater. He can help you guide yourself to the right instrument!

Evan and Sweetwater are the BEST!!

By Robert Celli Jr from Astoria, NY on April 8, 2021

I wanted to write a few words about how much I appreciate Evan Neiman and Sweetwater for their help in my recent purchase of a 2021 Gibson Les Paul Standard in Unburst. This has been a lifelong dream to own a Les Paul and Even made the whole process a dream to match my dream guitar. He was super responsive to any questions I had and communicated the timeline, providing updates along the way. I have come to trust Sweetwater with all my music related purchases and sales engineers like Evan are a BIG reason why. The extra time Sweetwater takes and the care in shipping and inspections are so important when making a purchase essentially sight unseen. The guitar is beautiful and the set up I got through Sweetwater had my guitar playing and sounding FANTASTIC right out of the box! Thanks again Evan & Sweetwater for your help and guidance in this purchase. I will definitely be using Sweetwater again!

The guitar is incredible, so much fun to play as you can tell with all the previous reviews.so I won't ramble on about the guitar any further. But what I want to bring up and that doesn't get started as often that really should in my opinion, Just how incredible all the people who work  at Sweetwater are.Everyone you meet there is so friendly and willing to help you with all your needs,, from the ladies at the front desk to all the sales engineers. they are all top notch. My guy who helped me was Tim Horn and I just can't say enough about him, he was so friendly and helpful right from the start.  and listened to what I wanted..No pushy salespeople there..Trust me when I say if you ever have the opportunity to  visit Sweetwater do it, YOU WILL LOVE THE EXPERIENCE..it like no other music store out there. Everything I dreamed and more!

By Greg Emery from wasilla, AK on January 31, 2021

I'd purchased a Les Paul Studio in 2020 from Sweetwater and was in love. Soon after I put the Les Paul 60's standard unburst at the top of my dream guitar list. Well impatience and amazing customer service from CJ made that dream a reality. The true hallmark of this guitar is heard unplugged. Sweet chiming chords, each note playing clean and articulate. The neck is slim, fast and smooth. Sustain for days! The pickups exceed expectations with each note being heard with my heavy overdriven preference. I am so in love with this beautiful instrument I will never give it up.

Unburst Les Paul

By David Cammack from San Diego on January 13, 2021 Music Background: Playing stringed instruments for 55 plus years, influenced by most types of music

A wonderful addition to my collection, an absolutely beautiful guitar! The LP looks better in person than in the photos and it plays as fine as it looks! Setup was great as received. Noting like the warm tones of a Les Paul. Sweetwater continues to provide the best customer service in the industry, Joel Helton has always provided the above and beyond personal service and best of all, the guitar you see is the guitar you get.

more than i expected.

By Chester from Western Suburbs of Chicago, IL on January 10, 2021 Music Background: semi retired from semi pro.

I have owned a 76 LP Deluxe w mini humbuckers since 1980. My main guitar. I wanted a LP with the big humbuckers. Holy smokes. These humbuckers (BB 61s) are a little better than burstbuckers 1 & 2. The guitar looks perfect and plays great. (I still have to take it to 'my guy' for a set up.)

I recommend this guitar, 100%. If you want a Les Paul and you buy a '60s Standard, I SERIOUsLY doubt you'll be disappointed. This is as close to perfection for a Les Paul fan, as it gets.

Gibson Les Paul 60's Standard Unburst

By Richard Interlande from DAYTONA BEACH, FL on December 30, 2020

How often do we buy things and are left a little disapointed? Not this time for me. I love this guitar, I can't put it down. Everything about it is perfect!!!! It plays unbelievably easy, the set up is perfect. This is the guitar I've always dreamed of. And while I tried to buy local at a couple "Mom and Pops", I couldn't find the one I wanted. Sweetwater gave me four choices, they even sent me hi-rez photos. I've played a '76 Explorer for years, haven't picked it up since this arrived. A+ Sweetwater. From start to finish this has been a flawless purchase. 100% satisfied.

Stop dragging your feet! Buy it!

By Bill from Virginia on October 10, 2020

All I can say is WOW! I own several top end Fenders (2 Strats, a Tele, & a couple Acoustasonics). A year ago I was thinking about a Gibson & my rep, Charles Cummings, recommended the SG 60's, which I bought. I LOVED it. The feel, the sound, the overall slickness and ease of play blew me away. Well, after a year I started wondering "if the SG plays that nice, what about the Les Paul?" With a higher price tag I agonized over whether it would be worth it. Every review I read was overwhelmingly positive, so in a leap of faith I placed my order. When it arrived I inspected it closely, looking for any little defect. If it has one, I couldn't find it anywhere. The sound? Well, letks just say the other guitars have been gathering dust. I feel guilty about that, but this guitar feels too good and sounds too nice to set aside. Thank you Charles!

Guitar is beautiful! It plays and sounds better than it looks. The 60s neck is really nice.

Along with donations from fellow work associates, I purchased this guitar as a gift to a coworker who was retiring. I have know him for 17 years and he always talked about his dream guitar being a Gibson Les Paul. When we presented the Les Paul to him, he was overwhelmed and his wife said, "I've never saw him cry."

Exactly What You'd Expect

By Ross on September 17, 2020

I've owned my share of Fender American Tele's and Gibson Les Pauls, and this one just sits differently. Even on the lighter side (8.9ish) it's still heafty and feels like a true solid piece. Action was set up perfectly and intonation was on point. The burstbuckers are warm and remind me of a well used and broken in les paul. I knew I wanted one with less flame on the top and more grain, and the unburst really helps with that. When in direct light the flame shines through. It really is perfect for everything - handles the high gain Mark V without being too "flubby" in the low end, but softens up for clean jazz improv. I was worried that the neck profile would be a turn off, but its great for me, even with smaller hands. It's exactly what you expect a 'standard' Les Paul to be: no frills, no fancy buttons, no extra things to worry about breaking. Just a well built guitar. Everything arrived without problem, and Sweetwater made the process actually enjoyable! Shout out to Keaton for the help and guidance!

Amazing work of art

By Gerald Cook from Shreveport Louisiana on July 18, 2020 Music Background: Musician

Can I start by saying Wow! I am amazed at the quality and craftsmanship of this instrument and that says a lot coming from me. I am a master carpenter and pay close attention to detail and I am not disappointed in any way. This guitar is beautiful, I just wanted to look at it but I got past that pretty quick.
This is my 2nd Les Paul, the 1st is a Traditional and they're both amazing instruments.
This guitar just has a feel to it, It kind of just fits perfect like an old coat on a cold winter day. I don't want to put it down.
Great action, tone and endless sustain.
It was set up perfectly from the factory,no adjustments needed at all and the slim tapered neck makes grabbing chords so easy.
It sounds great through tube or solid state amps and I use both.
Rob Amaral hand picked this guitar for me after I explained what type of finish I was looking for, he sent me the pictures and it was a done deal. He's a great guy that actually listens to me and is always eager to help.. and Always returns my calls, thanks Rob!
Bottom line, if you're looking for a Les Paul the Standard is an amazing American made work of art that's worth every penny. If you're looking for any music equipment, Rob Amaral at Sweetwater is more than just a salesman, He's a fellow musician that goes the extra mile to take care of you before and after the sale.

Perfect Guitar- Slim Neck-Great Sound

It has great sustain.

And Kenny the sales tech did a great job.

The neck is slim which exactly what I wanted.

5 Stars: Gibson Les Paul Standard 60s, Sweetwater Setup: 3 Stars

By Sweetwater Customer from DC on May 19, 2020

Unlike many folks here, this was my first Gibson so I don't have a way to fully know if it is a 'Good' Gibson guitar. With that said, I do know the value of money being an avid traveler and sportsman. For me, this guitar is worth as much as a 10 day trip sightseeing trip in Europe or 5 years worth of a Golds Gym membership. It plays incredibly smooth and looks absolutely stunning. Mine has no quality control issues. With the exception of a few rough router spots on the fret bindings and minuscule dark red paint dots on the black paint of the head stock, the overall finish is remarkable. Really in-love with the way it plays and the sweet vanilla smell on the finish is the second best smell in the world behind that of the missus. Due to Corona, I researched for a month straight in guitar forums, reviews, and watched probably 80 different videos (at least 5 times each) pertaining to electric guitars reviews & demos and I am extremely happy with my guitar. Only thing that ruined my unboxing was seeing a 'made in China' tag on the case in the eye candy pocket since guitar companies heavily promote price discrimination based on where guitars are manufactured (At least hide the tag please so consumers can fantasize about being all 'Merica). Unfortunately, my main gripe is with Sweetwater. Because I wanted to baby my first Gibson and did not have tools handy, I decided to go all out and opted for the PLEK service and bone nut replacement. First, my guitar came with a very small chip on the finish right next to the nut on the bottom side. I consider myself reasonable and the chip cannot be seen when playing, however, wood is showing because of the chip. Iam positive that it is because of the bone nut replacement (other side was completely fine). Regardless of the reason, it is unacceptable service to 1) damage the finish for such an expensive fee ($250), and 2) not even attempt to repair the chip before shipping it. Ironically, I was very concerned about Gibson QC before the purchase but Sweetwater QC turned out to be the one suspect. Second, the guitar neck arrived bone dry. I mean bone. dry. To PLEK the guitar, I was told that the strings had to be cut anyways but nobody even bothered to oil the neck despite the string removals and the professional set up. If oiling a noticeably dry fret board was not done in a professional setup, I cant help but doubt the set up work despite the guitar playing extremely well. Brought the issues up to my sales engineer and he offered a replacement or repair, and to send fret board oil for free (Was told last night that he/she would call today to discuss the issues but did not). Because I already love the guitar and I am not unreasonable, I will find a way to fix the very small chip either on my own or a local luthier. Or maybe not and just consider it a battle scar. Still a Sweetwater customer here but will think twice about Sweetwater setups from now on. Enough rambling, buy this guitar and Rockin' On is guaranteed.

Les Paul Standard 2020 in unburst! Beautiful, solid made and the best quality out of all my Les Paul’s

By Shred Flintstone from Music town , USA on May 16, 2020 Music Background: Pro musician , studio owner and sound engineer

Really glad JC took over the plant and saving this American Iconic brand.
I'm so sick of all the bashing about Fender and Gibson when we hardly make anything in America anymore.
Support American products especially the companies that have such a legacy and huge influence on music worldwide.
The new Les Paul standard we recently purchased is the Standard in Unburst. It's fantastic with smooth pro fretwork.
The body is flawless and the setup was spot on right out of the case.
The guitar stays in tune even the d and g strings.
The body is made from one slab of mahogany like the originals and no weight relief....the sound is powerful
We own many guitars in our studios and have several Gibsons and this new member of our family is a joy to play.
I hope that Gibson continues to make these professional instruments for many years to come.
The unburst is something new and it has a stunning look with nice flame.
Gibson is back and they are making a great product...

Old-school rocker!!!

By Sweetwater Customer on April 17, 2020 Music Background: Old rock. New rock. Metal. Alternative!! Oh heck I love it all!!!

Bought this on Easter Sunday.
Got it on Tuesday!!
Guitar was perfect right out of the box!!
Intonation was dead on!!!
Very impressed!!
I usually like a higher output pickup.
But the 61s aren't bad at all.
It was also a demo.
Best time to buy a standard ever!!!

This guitar is incredible!

I've had my new Gibson Les Paul Standard (Unburst finish) for about 5 days now and I'm more amazed with it every day. I have had 5 different Epiphone LP's over the past 40 years, as well as 2 different Gibson SG Standards, but this is another level entirely. Both of my SG's required a lot of setup to get them really stable and playable. This Les Paul showed up with essentially a perfect setup for very low action. Intonation was spot on on 4 out 6 strings. I wasn't worried about it since I knew I'd be switching the 10's for 9's. I also rubbed some boiled linseed oil into the rosewood fretboard as it was just a little bit dry. Now this guitar plays like buttah, so much so that I'm pinching myself... It's that great. I have friends with very valuable vintage Les Pauls that are amazing. I'd put the 2019-2020 Standards up against those any day of the week. Simply awesome instrument. If you're on the fence, you cannot go wrong with this guitar.

More than expected !!

After working for Gibson for over 5 years, I had definitely seen the ups and downs. Since the new owner has taken over, I have noticed a vast improvement. This is the first guitar I've ever purchased over the web. Never thought I would buy one without trying it out first. Man was I surprised. Probably the best guitar I have ever played. The guys at Sweetwater did me justice. Played like a dream right out of the case. Gibson seems to be back, and I hope they keep it up. Beautiful instrument, and a sweet deal. Best online store on the planet.

Gibson Standard vs Studio

By Ross from MISSOURI on February 6, 2020

I have owned a few Gibson Les Paul Studios and always aspired to own a Standard. I love the Standard! It looks even better in person. Mine weighs 9.0 pounds and I would not want it to weigh anything over 9.0 pounds. I got a demo model with a very minor defect, it was totally worth the savings. The sound and tone is wonderfully complex and rich in texture. The Studio is a very good guitar, but the Standard is a notch above in sound and the fretwork and action were perfect out of the box.

If money is tight, you don't care about binding or your Les Paul saying, "Studio" on the head stock then save... and get the Les Paul Studio. If you can afford it and love the history of the Standard and the burst finish and want the slightly better pickups and craftsmanship then go for the Standard.

I Love It

By Tom Enny from Red Bank, NJ on January 6, 2020

My 1st Les Paul and man is it amazing. I love everything about this guitar. The look, the feel, the sound. Chris at Sweetwater is the best. Great guitar and great service, can't beat it.

Wow. What a guitar! If you like the picture, wait until you open the case. Impressive maple and finish. Really well built and sounds amazing. Thank you Robb for such a great experience!

Awesome

By David from Missouri on September 22, 2019

This is my first Gibson Les Paul Standard. My dream guitar. Amazed at the sound and sustain of this guitar. Love the Unburst.
Gibson hit it out of the park on this one!
Sweetwater is the best dealer I've dealt with!
Rock on!

The Les Paul is back!

By Will from Illinois on September 16, 2019

I could not be happier with this Les Paul. Having owned many different Les Pauls over the years this one truly stands out and is excellent. The finish is great, the non chambered body sings. The Burstbucker 61T and 61R are have the perfect tone for classic rock and anything you throw at it. The best Les Paul Standard Gibson has made in years.

Fell in Love!

By Sweetwater Customer on September 14, 2019 Music Background: Intermediate

Just started playing one! It is purely magical! I was very hesitant based on the reputation LP"s have for tuning, variations from one to another, weight, thick necks, quality, etc. Was waiting for a PRS that just kept getting postponed (from PRS, not Sweetwater). I have always been on the fence. The only reason I was getting the PRS was to try getting that Les Paul sound. Well, fate is fate, I decide to leap the fence after the PRS got delayed again. I am not looking back!! Just opening the case, it"s gorgeous!!! Plugged it in and played, AMAZING!!! The slim neck on the 60"s is fast but still gives a good hand. Not the baseball bat, just right. You don"t swallow up the neck and don"t struggle holding it. It"s just that perfect middle. I had it set up with Sweetwater before sending and a set of Elixir put on. The guitar just exudes confidence! The tone is warm and is that 60"s & 70"s rock I always hear in my head. From day to day so far, only minor tunes before I play, but after an hour, still in check. My Custom Shop Strat is way more temperamental

Amazed

By Michael Siegfried from Philadelphia, PA on September 6, 2019

This guitar is flawless. The top on mine is so pretty. It"s my first real les Paul and I couldn"t be happier.
Sound is great, action is super low. I feel bad for my other guitars, because I"ll strictly be playing this for awhile.

First Les Paul

By Mike from Missouri on August 22, 2019 Music Background: Experienced player

This is my first Les Paul. Never really played an authentic Gibson before. When I first started playing I wanted one, but was turned on to Stratocasters and never really thought about it afterwards. Obviously I'd been missing out. What a fantastic playing guitar! And, the aesthetics are amazing as well. I finally plugged this guitar into my EVH 100w EL34, and it was mindblowing. Awesome clean tones, and excellent 60's British sounds were easy to find. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend one.

Gibson Guitar / Mesa Amp

By Sweetwater Customer on July 26, 2019

This was my first experience purchasing a guitar and I have to say the people at Sweetwater truly do care about the customer. If more companies only followed their example of how to take care of the customer people would have better experiences with online purchases. My sales associate Kieth was very knowledgeable and answered any question I had and I can"t say it enough that they really do want you to be a satisfied customer. With Sweetwater"s ability for you to see the item (guitar in this case) you are able to select from their inventory the one you like. With their 55 point inspection to how they package and ship the item they have you the customer in mind. I have to say that I would not hesitate to purchase my next guitar or amp from them. What a great purchase experience.

60's Unburst is Unbelievable!

By Joseph Y. from Pennsylvania on July 23, 2019

This is my first Gibson Les Paul (I also own an Epiphone with Gibson USA pickups) but this Lester is in another league. Absolutely a joy to play, gorgeous to look at and sounds fabulous through both my Marshall and Fender tube amps. This Gibson and my Martin HD28 are treasures that will be handed down through my family generations.

Simply Amazing!!

By Greg G from Vancouver WA on July 6, 2019

I've always wanted a Les Paul and with the positive reviews about this year/make/model, I thought it was time to make the purchase. This is really the best guitar I've ever owned. It's so versatile; any style/genre is going to sound great. Every note on every fret is perfect (I did have it plex'd at Sweetwater). The intonation and sustain is truly amazing, especially above and beyond the 12th fret. The neck pickup is a perfect "warm" sound and the bridge pickup really bites but doesn't tone out. When playing with distortion, I love the way you can turn the volume down but still keep the crunch sound. I haven't owned a Gibson before and was pleasantly surprised to find the neck, frets and vertical string spacing fit my hands perfectly.

The staff at Sweetwater is simply the best. Jeff Jent is my sales rep and I can't say enough about how they go the extra mile to make sure everything is perfect with your purchase. They simply take all the risk out of purchasing online.

Love my UnBurst!

These are great sounding, great playing, beautifully finished guitars!
Might be the "gem" of the Gibson line nowadays...I had been looking at them as soon as they came out,
I should have grabbed it sooner! My Service Advisor, Ryan Thorpe saw the whole thing through for me...
Great guitar!

How to turn Your LP Standard into a Beast!

By Daniel Fennessey from TX on February 7, 2022 Music Background: Studio Musician / Composer /Engineer

I have a 2010 Gibson Les Paul Standard that came with 57 classic pickups to start my journey. Not much has changed about the guitar itself over the years....except i found the pickups that make this guitar sing like never before. I won't go into all the pickups i tried before i found the magic combination, so straight to the point. I put a Dimarzio Illuminator pickup in the neck position, and a Dimarzio Gravity Storm pickup at the bridge. All i can say is WOW! When i first heard the bridge pickup in high gain mode...i was floored at how much richer the tone was thanks to the beautiful blooming harmonics of this pickup and the full but tight bass and mids. Just everything a Les Paul monster tone should be. The highs are thick with balanced presence to make them chime in a good way with out the ice-pick harshness even at high volume. This pickup was made for the LP...and the SG by the way...also sounds amazing in my Gibby 2018 SG Standard. The Illuminator neck pickup has a wonderful balanced tone across B-M-T and articulate clarity even with a bit of gain on the signal. Makes a great clean pickup for Prog Rock/ Post Rock. So....put these pickups on your LP...if you are like me...you will jump for joy compared to how the Gibson pickups sound.

My First Real Les Paul

By Sweetwater Customer on November 8, 2021

After finally deciding to buy a Standard, I had to decide where to buy. I decided on Sweetwater because I have read there reviews and have friends who have shopped hear. Great people here.
My guitar came as described, well set up and packed. I was a little afraid to buy a guitar online. But the fear was unfounded. The Paul is a truly awesome guitar should have bought one sooner. These latest Gibsons seem to be back on track I'm impressed with all of the aspects of this instrument. Once again thank you. Sweetwater is my go to online shop from now on.

Still rather go for Epiphone plus-top pro

By rich frazier from Phoenix, AZ on August 20, 2019 Music Background: 30 yrs guitar

I've tried Gibson Les Pauls of this caliber, but for a $2000 price difference I'd rather go for the Epiphone Pro-Top Plus with coil-splitting capability (and I did!).
