Great sound guitar

By Murat Doru from Turkey on March 17, 2016 Music Background: Guitar player with several groups more than 30 years

Gibson les paul 2016 T well made guitar. Quality of materials is high. Sound of Burstbucker pro pickups is well balanced and a little mid range. Neck is very comfortable and enought fast for blues soloists. You can find easily Peter Green and Gary Moore blues sounds with phase out push pull option and with orange drop Capacitors. Guitar is not heavy like other models. But the tonal quality of Les Paul Custom Long Scale 60's neck and Custom Bucker pick up is better than this guitar. More wood is more sound I can hear easily with any lamb amp. On the other hand sound can improve after 5 years wood standing of guitar. Hand job and finish of guitar is better than 2012-2015 models. Every gutarist wants to get this guitar for live performance. I will play this guitar till the end of my life. Thanks for gibson.

Excellent Les Paul !

By Nate watson from granbury Tx. on January 17, 2016 Music Background: Blues through metal, playing for over thirty years

Before I go on about this guitar I must tell a story about a recent experience with Gibson USA. I received this guitar as a warranty replacement for a defective Explorer I had for about 9 months. Long story short - my Explorer started cracking in the center of the neck running up and splitting off ending at three of the tuner holes. No drop, no hit, no damage, spent it's entire life in my spare bedroom. I sent it to Gibson not knowing what to expect. To my surprise they offered to replace it with this new Standard T along with a few others in this price range. They basically replaced it with a guitar that was twice as valuable as the defective one. That people is customer service and Gibson has my up most respect now. For the 2016 Les Paul Standard T. This guitar is the best guitar I have ever owned and I have 23 electrics and 6 acoustics, been playing for over 30 years. Set up, perfect, finish perfect. Very solid even with weight relief and sustains for days. Best tuners on the market and holds tune for days. A couple of things that are not currently advertised - gibson is using thicker fretboards and sanding them down with a finer grit. Almost responds like ebony, very crisp and smooth but still sings as rosewood should. The neck binding goes up over the edge of the frets which makes traveling up and down the neck much smoother. The strap buttons are larger eliminating the use for strap locks. The push pull feature opens up an arsenal of tones while retaining the classic LP crunch with no buzz at all. The case is old school brown with a fuscia interior. Very solid, cradles the guitar like a glove. Gone are the robot tuners and zero fret nut but are still available on the HP if that is your thing. I cannot say enough about this guitar and as good as Sweetwater pics are they still do not do it justice. This is an expensive guitar but is also a good investment, just take care of it. Sweetwater sets the standard on customer service, you cannot ask for better service. This is the best Les Paul Gibson has put out in a long time, buy it you will not regret it and as I know Gibson will stand behind it . Great great LP !

Amazing guitar!

By TheClassic76 from NJ on December 27, 2015

The fact that you get to choose your own is what draws me to Sweetwater. Upon arrival guitar was packed well and when opened the most beautiful I have ever seen. Of course, because I chose the serial number I wanted! The guitar itself plays great and is an amazing step forward from the 2015 lineup. Gibson went back to creating classic guitars with impressive quality. The pickups are nice and hot, just the right amount though. A step up from 57 Classics. The tonal options are a major plus as well. The tone bypass gives a nice vintage raw sound that reminds me of the 60's and 70's classic rock icons. The phase switch is great for blues and lead work. Also for the first time in any guitar I have ever owned I utilize the single coil option. They sound great when tapped. Overall a wonderful guitar, has become my main axe, and I look forward to playing it everyday!

Gibson Les Paul Standard 2016

By Mike on December 10, 2015

Just picked up my new Les Paul Standard 2016 and I have to say I am truly blown away. Yeah the price was ridiculous but honestly, how do you put a price on such a unique and timeless sound. The slim neck fits like a glove. The guitar was perfect right out of the case. A couple of scuffs on the finish here and there but there will be lots more to come. I have not played around with the electronics too much yet however I am betting that they will only add to the versatility. I am glad I waited for the 2016. It has everything that I have ever wanted in a guitar...too bad I it took thirty years to find it! Don't wait to get yours before they find a way to screw it up again. This year is destined to be a classic and marks a return to the Gibson of old. Thanks to my Sweetwater sales engineer Tyler Berggren for a smooth transaction and great communication throughout the purchase. He even copied me on photos of the guitar before shipping. Packaging was more than sufficient to protect in transit. I know this sounds weird...but even the smell of it inspires me! Adios muchachos...

The Classic Sound And The Classic Look

By Scott from Dallas TX on October 21, 2015 Music Background: 30+ year player

I have wanted to get a new Les Paul Standard for the last couple of years and honestly wasn't terribly excited about some of changes made for the 2015 models. I was, however, excited about the modifications to the electronics that added the push-pull tone options a few years ago (coil-tap, phase reverse, bridge pickup straight to jack), so I waited one more year.

When the 2016s were announced, I was quite happy to see that the push-pull options remained but things like robo-tuning were removed (although I think there is a Standard model that keeps that option).

I ordered my Les Paul on line from Sweetwater after finding the exact top and burst that I wanted. Within a few minutes, I got an email stating that my order was received. Three hours later (almost to the minute), my sales engineer sent another email to announce that it had shipped and provided the tracking number. High quality pictures from the website followed shortly thereafter. All in all, a flawless purchase process and I never once had to wonder what was going on! Perfect.

Now, the guitar. Sweetness to say the least. I played without an amp for 10 minutes before plugging in and it sings acoustically. It has that clear resonance you hope to have from a Les Paul. Then when plugged into a small (20-watt) tube amp, it was ALL there: Jimmy Page tones, The Reverend Willy G, Joe Perry, Slash, King Buzzo, Mastodon. You name it: clean, dirty, distorted. The straight Les Paul pickup configuration sounds were classic and beautiful. Then the push-pull options opened up great tones I didn't expect from a Les Paul. I'm still experimenting with those options, but there are some interesting sounds to be had!

The fit, finish, and out-of-the-case playability were top-notch. It was set up perfectly and looked amazing. I dropped the pickups quite a bit to suit my own tastes, but that was all it needed to deliver. This is a great guitar and I could not be happier.

The same is true of Sweetwater. This is the second guitar I have bought from them and both times I have been taken care of very well. My sales engineer, David Cochran, has done a great job both times. Thank you to him and Sweetwater!
