Gibson Les Paul Deluxe 70s Electric Guitar - Goldtop Reviews
From head to toe, the Gibson Les Paul Deluxe '70s Electric Guitar epitomizes what makes a vintage LP so appealing. To start, you get a non-weight-relieved mahogany body — identical to an original — with plenty of warmth and balance that will serve you well in a wide variety of sonic applications. Its maple top imbues this formidable 6-string with some welcome brightness. An absolute delight to play, the mahogany neck is shaped to a rounded "C" for superior playability and maximum comfort, and it's capped with a super-smooth rosewood fingerboard. Of course, this guitar wouldn't be a true Les Paul Deluxe without a pair of mini humbuckers, which offer a brighter, clearer tone than their beefier siblings. Made of nitrocellulose lacquer, even the finish is true to the times. It all adds up to an exquisite instrument that embodies the look, feel, and sound of a vintage Les Paul.

Where is the love?
Where is the love for mini humbuckers?
These give away nothing to a Les Paul standard with full size humbuckers.
This guitar screams, it cries, everything a Les Paul is famous for, but with more clarity.
This may be the very very first guitar I've ever had that I have no intention of modifying.
If I didn't make it clear, I love the pickups, I love the neck, and it was delivered with a flawless finish.
Les Paul Deluxe 70s is really 100 percent
Great guitar; bought it as a surprise for myself. Fun to play; beefy neck, more so than I have ever played, with great fret board action, nice frets. Arrived set up to my liking with no physical problems. Got a good deal on this guitar by a phone call to do-it-right Nick. As I later told him after receiving the guitar, if Ida earlier known about mini-humbucker sound, I woulda owned that sound sooner.
Really good quality, unique tones
I've always wanted a gold top Les Paul, but being primarily a Fender player, I've never gotten along with PAFs. This revised version of the LP Deluxe gets rid of all the qualities that made the originals somewhat undesirable - pancake body, neck volute, skinny neck profile - and at a price significantly below what you would pay for a vintage model. This guitar is great all around. Finish is amazing, tuners feel terrific, playability is very nice (I did have to adjust intonation). Tone of these mini humbuckers is slightly warmer than the Seymour Duncan Antiquity minis on another guitar I own, but in a pleasing way. It's amazing overdriven and the wax potting allows for stage volume without annoying feedback squeals the vintage minis can have. If you want the Les Paul vibe and playability with flatter radius and smaller scale, but with more chime, clarity and high end sparkle, this is a very appealing option.
My bucket list guitar
I've wanted a deluxe since I played one in the late 70's. It's beautiful, plays great, and the fit and finish is perfect. Gibson has definitely fixed their past QC issues. The mini humbuckers are clear and crisp, no bucker mud. The neck is perfect to me. Fat but not huge. Frets are perfect. Minor action tweaks out of the box and I gigged it the next day. Highly recommend!
great tone
Joe reviewing Gibson 70s gold top
As always my salesman Pat Walsh was great, and he helped me through the process of finding the exact guitar I wanted.
Unfortunately when I received the guitar there was obvious paint run that Gibson lacquered over, there is rough spot in the paint on the body where the fret comes up on the left side, there was also lacquer drips on the left side of the edge
of the fretboard.
I sent it back I am very disappointed in Gibson for letting it get past quality control, and a little upset at sweetwaters quality control for accepting it from Gibson.
Gibson claims, and everyone seems to agree, the premium price you pay is because of the superior American workmanship, I did not see that on this guitar. My first thought was to let it go and accept the blemishes but then I thought if we as customers except less than excellent workmanship, and finishes, we are giving Gibson the okay to put out subpar work.
This is my third run-in with Gibson with less than satisfactory results. I bought a black beauty 3 pickup Gibson in the 90s that had constant feedback. I sent it back to Gibson they fixed it but they sent it back with a dent in the gold pickup cover.
If Gibson is going to let subpar work go, you can't afford to not inspect it thoroughly before you buy it, or else, (in my experience) you're going to send it right back.
