Epiphone Jared James Nichols "Blues Power" Les Paul Custom Electric Guitar - Aged Pelham Blue Reviews
What do you get when you combine soulful blues with the raw edge of rock guitar histrionics? In the words of 6-string firebrand Jared James Nichols: “Blues Power,” his self-described moniker for his idiosyncratic brand of searing blues-meets-hard-rock ferocity. The aptly titled Epiphone Jared James Nichols “Blues Power” Les Paul Custom is a tribute to that very sound, adding a whole new spin to its namesake's “Gold Glory” signature Epiphone. This guitar’s distinctive combination of an all-mahogany body, elegant Les Paul Custom cosmetics, and a Les Paul Junior-style single-pickup, 1-piece bridge configuration mirrors “Gold Glory” model, with two dramatic differences: an Aged Pelham Blue finish and Jared’s signature Seymour Duncan JJN P-90 Silencer pickup. The result is an instrument that hits every bit as hard as Jared’s iconic Les Pauls, but with a crystal-clear, hum-free operation that allows for dirt-drenched leads and roaring tube saturation without a hint of hum.

This P90 Rips!
I am really happy with this rig. I've heard the Gold Top JJN has had some quality control issues, but fit and finish on this one in Pelham Blue is great and it seems to be well-built. The noiseless P90 is so great- very responsive to Tone/ Volume manipulation, more so than most other Les Pauls I've played. I was initially worried that a single pickup might limit the range of this thing, but that hasn't been an issue at all. I love the C-Shaped neck and movement along the neck is effortless. I can't thank Matt, my Product Support Specialist enough. He was super-responsive and the guitar shipped and arrived in less than 48 hours. I can't find a reason to buy from other folks. Sweetwater does it right!
Great but...
I have had this guitar for a few weeks now and here is my thoughts.
The good.
This guitar sounds great. Very 70's rock/blues. The pickup is great. Tuners are great. The neck is pretty chunky but comfortable. I really like this guitar.
The not so good.
All new guitars need a setup when you get them. Something always needs tweaked. This guitar was unplayable when it arrived. The action was ridiculously high. The nut slots were not even close to deep enough. It was setup so bad that it was almost funny. I would expect a 1k Epiphone to have a little better setup than the cheaper ones. One more thing of note was the paint line where the binding meets the paint on the neck. It was like they painted it and removed the tape and it left a ridge there.
Overall, I like this guitar and it is a great sounding/looking guitar. All of my complaints were taken care of with a setup but I expected a $1000 Epiphone to at least be playable out of the box.
