MOTU LP32 USB / AVB Interface with ADAT Reviews
With four banks of optical Lightpipe digital connectivity, plus built-in DSP for effects processing and mixing, the MOTU LP32 USB/AVB interface is a compact-yet-powerful solution for managing digital audio. It supports a total of 32 channels at 44.1/48kHz or 16 channels at 88.2/96kHz. And each I/O bank can be switched to operate as eight channels of ADAT, four channels of SMUX, or stereo TOSLink. A front-panel headphone output makes monitoring convenient. Whether you're recording to your computer or adding I/O to your AVB audio network, the MOTU LP32 interface is a smart, flexible solution for managing optical ADAT signals.

Hardware is fine but the software rocks
The hardware functions as expected. I've got 2x Behringer ADA 8200s hooked to the interface with an Art SyncGen external work clock rubbing the whole shebang. Works fine. The magic for this unit (and I assume anything that runs the Motu Pro Audio firmware) is the routing and mixing features. They work great and blow away the features of any physical mixer you can get at this price point. I can hook each analog unit up separately and using the routing feature create customized recording chains without needing to re-cable anything. Using the mixer I can run a podcast and have complete control over the broadcast mix. It's awesome
Up and running in no time
MOTU lives up to its reputation every time. I worked with motu in my career as an audio engineer and when I needed to build a portable rig capable of 16 channels at 96k via adat, This is the only interface available on Sweetwater that could get the job done. It was a breeze to set up.
Very Good and Reliable
Very good interface. Works well and is reliable. Does take a while to startup but not a huge deal. Recommended.
Solid as Always
I've only had one session using the LP32 so far, but it performed flawlessly, as all my MOTU gear always has. Used it in conjunction with a Focusrite ISA428's converters and ADAT outputs, with the LP32 acting as clock master, and had no sync issues whatsoever. Setup on the Macbook Pro took a little doing, and at one point it appeared I had two drivers loaded, confusing Pro Tools. But after sorting that out, I found using the mixing software very intuitive, and the display helpful. This will be almost exclusively my remote recording rig so I won't be taking advantage of the more advanced mixing features, but I'd give this unit a thumbs up for anybody needing an ADAT-based interface. I give it 4.5 stars instead of 5 only because of its lack of any balanced analog outputs.
MOTU's LP32 ADAT Interface
Right out the box, this new product from MOTU fills a technology gap that makes iMac computers dating back to 2012 and Yamaha O2R Version 2 mixers with ADAT interfaces relevant again ! DAW recording up to 24 simaltaneous tracks with very low monitoring latency (less than 10ms) works well with the AVB interface between the MOTU LP32 and my iMac 2.7 GHz intel Core i5. The ability to wirelessly network control surfaces from iPhones and iPads makes this interface an easy choice for any dedicated Apple user. I have just scratched the surface of this units capabilities to date, but for me the MOTU LP32 is a complete winner and definitely worth the investment.
USB driver and AVB stream issues
I needed to almost always boot my Mac and then turn on this unit on in order to get the USB driver to load properly. It would also lose AVB streams from time to time. Ended up migrating to the RME Digiface AVB which has been much more stable. This unit is, overall, a good value for the money though, especially if you need ADAT I/O.
