JHS Berkeley Vintage-style Fuzz Effect Pedal Reviews
A modern interpretation of an all-time fuzz classic, the JHS Berkeley marks the return of the legendary Seamoon Fresh Fuzz! This pedal’s wild, wooly tone comes straight out of the early ’70s, sporting a design closely modeled after the Fresh Fuzz’s rarest variation, the single op-amp 741. Like the original, the Berkeley features a non-nonsense setup of but two knobs to dial in your sound, with an astounding range of dirt tones across its sweep — from a slight grit to full-blown wall-of-sound fuzz madness. Moreover, the Berkeley continues the JHS Legends of Fuzz Tradition with a side-mounted Mode switch for extended tonal flexibility. Wrap it all up in a decidedly old-school slanted metal enclosure, and the JHS Berkeley is a must-have pedal for any vintage-style fuzz fanatic.

Best fuzz purchase I’ve made. Period.
I could never get fuzzes to work for me. Maybe I didn't understand them and their potential, but nevertheless I started my quest to find one within the past couple years. When this batch of fuzzes were released, the Berkeley definitely caught my eye and I only recently got around to finally play one. It takes the cake for what I do and how I want to sound. Hands down. It's more tame than a Muff, but can still growl and spit if you choose. The cleanup is responsive and I enjoy how it purrs when digging in. The footprint is the only drawback IMO. Granted it's not a flagship Strymon, I just have a smaller pedalboard than most I see on socials, so real estate is the only concern. Overall I think my journey is at a resting point for now until I happen by something else I equally enjoy. Great work JHS. 9.5/10
Very musical.
Usually I'm not a big fan of fuzz pedals, but as I was going for something in the neighborhood of a David Gilmour/Eric Johnson tone, I knew I would need to find one I could live with.
This one sort of treads the line between a fuzz and an overdrive. I researched this purchase by wading through a lot of fuzz pedal reviews on YouTube-which, given how much I generally don't like them, was a chore-and it has a very nice, musical tone, lending itself well to that smooth violin tone I am looking for-unlike so many other fuzz pedals that sound like a tesla coil trying to fart the National Anthem.
This was very good purchase. Try one out.
