This is the sound that made Ludwig GREAT! I had a set back in the day and with Remo Coated Emperors on the top and Coated Diplomats on the bottom, I was able to get the classic late 60s Jim Keltner "thump." They were beautiful! If I was buying a new set tomorrow, this is it! The 14x24 is a nice touch as it gives you a low note, but the depth does not impede your speed as "it's a lot of air to move." You MUST have a chrome over brass superphonic 400. An Atlas heavyweight snare stand for the 13" is also the way to go for a mount.

I wanted these drums cause I'm a big Ringo fan. The bass is bigger than what he used with his super classics, 14x24 vs 14X22, but this kit still screams Ringo. This kit is so much more than Ringo though, I've been using it to play everything from classic rock to hard rock and it handles the job beautifully! I added a Remo Felt Tone reso head to the kick and kept the clear batter head that came with it, (Think it's a clear P3). No other internal muffling needed, the warm mahogany sound is just amazing. I tried the Remo Fiberskyn for the batter but it muffled things too much for my tastes. For the toms I switched heads for Remo Ambassador vintage for the batter and coated Ambassadors for the reso, sounds perfect to my ears.
The kit comes with floor tom hardware but none for the mounted tom. I went with the Ludwig Atlas Arch and LAPAM1 Atlas mount, the tom mounted securely and I think it looks really slick. I couldn't be happier with this purchase, this is just an amazing sounding and looking drum kit.
