ESP LTD Signature Ben Burnley BB-600 Baritone Electric Guitar - See Thru Black Sunburst Satin Reviews

Solidbody Electric Baritone Guitar with Mahogany Body, Quilted Maple Top, Maple Neck, Ebony Fingerboard, 2 Humbucking Pickups, and Piezo Pickup - See-Thru Black Sunburst Satin

The ESP BB-600 Baritone Ben Burnley Signature 6-string electric guitar is one of the most versatile signature models ever made by ESP. Co-designed with Ben Burnley of Breaking Benjamin, the BB-600 Baritone has two pickup types installed in its red-hot quilted maple top and mahogany body: a piezo under the bridge and high-quality magnetic pickups (both Seymour Duncans — a '59 and a JB) at the neck and bridge positions. The BB-600 Baritone also includes two outputs, allowing you to route the magnetic pickups' signals to one amplifier and the piezo pickup's signal to another. With its single-cutaway Eclipse body, 27-inch scale length for painless downtuning, and neck-thru Thin "U" 3-piece maple neck, the ESP BB-600 Baritone is a super-playable modern instrument that also has distinctive signature markings: custom red pickup covers, red fingerboard inlays with the Breaking Benjamin symbol, and a red LTD logo.

Gorgeous guitar

By Sweetwater Customer from TX

Absolutely love this guitar! First saw it being played by Ben during a Breaking Benjamin concert and in countless videos and thought "wow that's a badass guitar!" and then found out they were available to buy. So we grabbed one and so glad we did. It beautiful and puts out a really clean, clear tone. You can tell this is a really high quality instrument.

Thunder and Lightning

By Kevin S. from Roswell, GA
Music Background: Alternative, metal, and soundtrack producer. Veteran of many bands you have probably never heard of.

This baritone guitar is so versatile and unique, it was a must-have for me. I especially like the piezo bridge pickup which can give you some real crisp modern takes on a wasteland-style spaghetti western tone, but then when you add in the Seymours on a separate output, things get wonderfully outlandish. I run the piezo to a clean channel with a delay and the magnetic pickups to a gritty one at high gain, and you've really got something. The music basically writes itself at that point, and it's amazing. I have since restrung it and tuned it down to A-standard and it really bridges the wasteland between the bass and the guitars in my mixes.

On top of this, the finish is gorgeous, the long neck is very comfy if you're a taller person, and the action is perfect. If shredding is your thing, this might not be the one for you l, but there are gazillions of guitars out there for that. This one is for slow, low, deliberate notes that rattle the bones of your foes while getting your friends' blood pumping. Easily one of my top 3 guitars.

Unbelievable

By Aaron F. from Rocklin, CA

I love this guitar so much. It's all I've been playing and I am fortunate to have a lot of other choices from my Taylor hollow body to my Les Paul etc. , but the baritone guitar is quite unique given you have those lower notes and I love it! I had a cheap baritone and it was still fun to play but it never sounded great. I figured ESP was not going to make a bad higher end guitar and fortunately I was right! This thing screams musical power!

Love it

By Erik

Beautiful fit and finish and sounds awesome. Definitely fun to play. Haven't found anything I don't like about it. If you're looking for a sweet baritone geared for metal, this should be a front-runner in your list of choices.

Surprisingly Solid

By Sweetwater Customer

I bought this to replace my 7-string Baritone monster which I did not like for a few reasons -- mainly the pickups and it being the heaviest guitar ever created as a 7-string baritone. For simplicity, I wanted a 6-string and went with this purchase as an ESP fan and former Les Paul player. It looked like it was coming from the best of both worlds. Being said -- I exclusively use this guitar for LOW tuning. Like C Standard, Drop C, Drop A etc. It does the job and then some. I honestly couldn't be happier with how this plays, sounds, feels etc. Why did I not give it 5 stars then? The same reason I eventually stopped playing my Gibson SG. This thing has *some* neck drop to it although not near as bad as an SG. Being a baritone this can happen. It's not all that bad but considering it's a heavier guitar -- after playing through a few sets you can feel yourself compensating for the neck drop which if you are used to it is not a big issue. I am a stand-up player (I never sit to play) I play mostly in D Standard with light ESP FRX guitars so picking this up + the neck drop makes it so I only use this guitar in shorter sessions. Maybe I'll just throw a weight on the body and see if I can balance it out some. Otherwise, this thing really surprised me. A+ Guitar (also my first LTD).

My first baritone guitar ever and I couldn't be more pleased!! I would like to thank my boy Riley for hooking me up with this great guitar. The neck feels great, the action is perfect, and oh my god do those Seymour's sound killer! A great pickup for anyone looking for a baritone guitar, and fans of breaking Benjamin

Totally Awesome

By Sweetwater Customer from TX

I've been rocking on this thing for almost a year now and it's been my go to guitar since I got it. The play and feel is perfect for me. Nice round neck that's nice and smooth with the satin. The strings that comes with the guitar were perfect and they've been my go-to set. Electronics feel great.

Only complaint I really had was with the JB bridge pickup. There was something about it that I just could vibe with and I honestly don't think it's a good choice for a baritone. And this is just me but the red pickups never looked right. I replaced them out for some Seymour Duncan SH-5 Custom and a SD Jazz in the neck. I don't really play the neck pickup much but I replaced it just to get rid of the red. The SH-5 REALLY brought this guitar to life. There was some grit missing with the JB, it always sounded to me like the tone know was turned down even though this guitar doesn't have a tone knob. the SH_% brought this guitar to life and made me fall in love.

No regrets buying this, would definitely recommend.

Premium Instrument at an Accessible Price

By Mike
Music Background: Bedroom Player

Yes, I realize that it's possible to get US-made instruments at the same price-point as this World-Instruments made example, but you won't get the features, appointments or quality in those few guitars. Also, I will preface by saying that I've only played the one example that I received from Sweetwater, so it's possible I just lucked into the best example they're ever produced.

That said, this is the Les Paul I've been looking for all my life! The finish work on this guitar is amazing! The only instrument I own that matches it is my US-made Core-line PRS 24 Custom Floyd, which cost nearly 3x the price of this instrument. The fret work on this guitar is immaculate, truly as good as any instrument I've ever played. The frets aren't actually as wide as my Korean-made PRS 7-string (the older model with a 25" scale,) but they are MUCH taller, which makes bends and vibrato feel super slinky and fluid.

The woodworking is immaculate - the back of my example is once solid slab of mahogany with a nice even grain. Despite the description saying "Thin-U," the neck (in three longitudinal pieces) is actually a fairly deep C. It's incredibly comfortable, and what I would expect a pre-'59 Les Paul would have - nice and chunky, but not huge or uncomfortable. It's very rounded, unlike some necks that have a distinct flat across the back and wide shoulders. I suspect that if you're coming from a long time playing 7-strings, this will feel much more natural in your hand. Unplugged, it is amazingly resonant, easily the most resonant solid body guitar I own. It just rings forever!

The pickups are fantastic - I put a set of Duncan Antiquities in another instrument, and these sound/feel very similar in this guitar. They are a little bright, which I prefer, and even with a decent amount of gain, the 3rds of open chords ring through clearly. They have enough clarity to cut through with high gain, but they have enough midrange detail to sound great at edge-of-breakup gain levels as well. They even sound surprisingly good clean, though the lack of a tone knob limits what you can do for jazzy soling on the neck pickup. That said, the pots are nice full-size Alphas, and they're completely clean with no scratchiness.

Of course, the star of the show is the piezo bridge! There's just something so wonderful about being able to roll off the magnetic volume, turn up the piezo volume, and go from high-gain shred to a full-on acoustic tone! And throw in the extended scale (I've tuned it A-to-A,) and it just creates such unique soundscapes out of familiar patterns and progressions! And then you can just start shredding acoustically! It is a bit of shock when you hear it (especially the languid, liquid bends you can achieve,) but it's also totally addictive! And owing to the sustain of the instrument, you get that initial sharp acoustic attack you're expecting, but then it just rings on like no acoustic should! I believe this one feature really makes this instrument!

The rest of the assembly and hardware is as good as I've seen anywhere. The tuners are proper Grovers, and feel just as nice here as on any Taylor I've ever played. They certainly make it easy to sneak up on extra-precise tuning! The battery cavity has a clip installed and the screws that hold it on are machine screws into threaded brass inserts in the wood, so you don't have to worry about stripping one. The entire guitar is bound in single-layer black, which gives the body and neck a very high-end feel. The fret ends are nicely clipped and rounded and there are no sharp edges anywhere to be seen. Upper fret access is superb with the sculpted heel on the neck. I don't encounter any resistance all the way to the 22nd fret, and 24 is just a short reach from there, which is a far cry from an non-Axcess Les Paul ever made!

The bridge is actually set fairly far back on the body, so first-position chords don't feel like much of a stretch at all. The scale length is also spot-on for me, because I can JUST reach the stacked 5ths in Message in a Bottle. I was hunting for a longer scale length, but now that I've put time in with this one, I'm happy I didn't go that route.

If there is ANY negative to this guitar, it does have neck dive when strapped up. I know for some people that's the end of it, but you can control it very easily with your high forearm when it's in a natural picking position, so it's not a big deal to me.

Overall, if you're looking for a 6-string baritone, this should absolutely be on your short list. If you're looking for a 6-string baritone with piezo capabilities, this is one of only two non-custom guitars I found, and I can heartily recommend this as the easy choice currently!

My current no.2

By Joseph S. from kemp, TX
Music Background: played bass for a single practice session, and have been playing guitar for years. rock and metal.

I had started on my baritone journey in 2016 with a prs semi hollow baritone, and I loved it, but it wasn't quite what I was looking for. After seeing this, I knew I had to at least try one, and despite me not currently or at the time having a band, I knew that this was something that was special. After mentioning this around some of my family, I received this on Christmas day, and this is almost a perfect guitar for me, and even though I am someone who prefers my 2x2 +1x3 control scheme, this fit my exact needs as a baritone guitar. Something that may be affecting my rating of the guitar is that I am a fan of breaking benjamin, but if anything, that is just what showed me this guitar. Bottom line, this guitar will bend to your will, and will be knife in which you carve your tone with. Wield it well.

Fantastic Baritone!

By Josh from Tulsa, OK

I had been waiting for a long time for Ben Burnley to release a signature guitar. I loved his blue PRS baritone he used for a long time. When I saw he was releasing an ESP signature, I had to get it. The guitar itself has been built with amazing quality and craftsmanship. The pickups sound great and can be dialed into many different tones and sounds for whatever you're playing. The piezo pickup adds a really different sound that could be used for a lot of different clean tones. The guitar stays in tune extremely well and have yet to have any issues with it. I am extremely happy with the purchase and look forward to more purchases from Sweetwater and Delvin Wolf!

First baritone and glad I went all in.

By James from Maryland

First off the satin finish makes this guitar feel like it's made for your hands. Everything about this guitar is flawless. From the pickups to the clarity in low tunings it's just amazing. And the piezo is a game changer.
