Lauten Audio Snare Mic Large-diaphragm FET Condenser Reviews
Throughout history, drummers have had few microphone options for accurately capturing their most important membranophone: the snare drum. Lauten Audio is here to finally give snare drums the representation they deserve with the aptly named Snare Mic – the first and only FET condenser microphone built specifically for snare drums. It may also be the last snare mic you need, considering the Snare Mic’s -28dB of off-axis rejection, more than 135dB SPL handling, and 20Hz – 20kHz frequency response. Plus, excellent onboard sound shaping capabilities - three high cuts and three low cuts - ensure that the Lauten Audio Snare Mic will sound fantastic on any snare drum. The Snare Mic’s diminutive size (4.2 inches) lets it fit easily on any drum set, and its solid brass headframe plus mildew-resistant dust filter protects it from stick hits, drumstick wood shavings, and much more. Finally, a vibration-resistant capsule means that the Snare Mic is ready to be mounted either on your drum’s rim or on a mic stand.

WOW! So far…
So far all I've done is clap real loud at it.
Cause I don't have any drums.
It wasn't plugged in.
It's just beautiful.
Thank you.
Won't go back to another one after this!
This is the easiest snare drum mic I've used. It sounds more open as it is a condenser mic.
It's become my favorite and this is certainly a head turner for all those who have found their "go to" snare mic.
The mount is phenomenal and eases your positioning routines. It also has a crazy hi-hat rejection that is crazy!
Love it!
Trust me, get one. You are welcome.
Snare Mic sounds amazing!
This is a very cool microphone. Great build quality and adjustable mount. I was able to replace having two microphones on snare for just this one. The hihat rejection is very impressive! Would definitely recommend!
You’ll never go back to a 57!
Seriously a "phat" sounding mic, great tone contour settings on mic. I almost had a finished sound without processing out of the box. I used 57's before this and never really liked my snare top sound without eq'ing it. This was the answer for me. Thanks Sweetwater for timely delivery too.
Where have you been all this time
Best mic I have ever used on a snare hands down.
Best and easiest snare mic I've used.
I've used many mics to record snares over the years and find this mic to be among the best. It's super easy to use (sounds great in many positions) and being a condenser sounds more open than most dynamic and hyper dynamic mics used on snares. I recommend this mic to anyone looking to break away from their "go to" snare mics.
A ALL TERRAIN DRUMMER PROOF CONDENSER MIC?!?!
TL;DR
Lauten created another monster
The Snare mic works in all terrains, on the road, in a treated studio and untreated studio
ITS DRUMMER PROOF
The Rejection for a condenser mic is insane!
Mine is Serial #00090
Here is my review:
I've always loved the quality of Lauten microphones ever since I experienced one of their flagship mics (FC-357) on a kick drum at Stages Music and Arts in Timonium,MD. I was blown away ever since.
Now I'm in a position in life where I'm happy with all the equipment I have however, I got wind through Tommy Igoe, Lauten released The snare mic.
I checked it out on youtube and saw various videos on the microphone. I was floored but not surprised of Lauten's innovation behind this mic.
I wanted the mic but I am not made of money lol. So I weighed my options and I asked myself:
"Do you have anything on your sweetwater credit card?" No I just paid it off a few months back.
"Do you need another mic in your drum mic in your mic locker?" No.
"Do you have a dedicated condenser mic for the snare drum?" No.
"Have you interacted with Lauten before, how did they treat you?" Yes, they were super nice to me and I heard their customer service is amazing.
Skip to me getting the mic:
When it comes to the build quality this mic is no different to their other mics, it's TOP NOTCH.
This mic is what I call a "All terrain mic", it's very THICC in all the right places but you can still fit it in tight spaces. The mount is super smooth too!
When I plugged it into my mic preamp, and hit my snare, I could hear not only the crack but the full character of my snare…The snare mic is what you say "Truthful".
With that said if you're in a session and you have multiple snares on standby this mic will tell you if the snare works or not for the song you're about to record to.
The rejection is EXTREMELY impressive for a condenser microphone. I say that because I also used it on a live gig. The sound engineers were skeptical but during sound check they highly impressed and then asked me how I got one at the end of the gig lol.
As far as the high pass and low pass filters, I haven't used them yet and will update this review if possible but if you want to put a condenser mic on your snare drum without being afraid of a drummer potentially bashing mic and or the capsule the Snare Mic from Lauten IS IT.
This is the best "Snare Mic"
No pun intended. This has become my favorite snare mic. The rejection from hats and other artifacts is really amazing. The built in sound shaping switches really make a difference and now I don't need to worry about tweaking preamps. As always, an amazing microphone by Lauten Audio. They are definitely changing the game!
