Sweetwater's SWEET!
Full disclosure: I am not a musician, I was looking for a gooseneck light for my small computer desk. This light didn't work out for me because there is no "off" position on the dimmer. This light is intended for use on a mixing board application with a master power off panel that shuts off all components as one.
My impression of the light: The light is all metal, very substantial feeling with a high quality feel and heft. The neck will stay where the light is aimed and should be perfect for it's intended use as described above.
My impression of Sweetwater: Zach, my salesperson, is great. When I described why this light will not work for me, a return authorization (RMA) was quickly emailed to me. For this return a prepaid shipping label was also included. Normally, it is the customer's responsibility to pay return shipping charges, but since the product description didn't say there was no "off" position on the dimmer Sweetwater included the shipping label.
For all you musicians out there, if my experience with this company is any example, I believe your purchasing experience will also be exceptional!
Excellent Flexible Lighting Solution for Studio Gear
This low-intensity lamp is perfect for placement over displays that have no back-light such as my DAW and synth workstation. I was able to mount the lamp into the side of my rack case using the provided screws. The goose neck allows me to place the light precisely where it is required and the lamp stays where it is placed (no loosey-goosey neck problems with this product). The black color blends in well with the rest of my studio rig. The dimmer works great too! High quality finish. Durable design. Great product!
Right Light Mostly
The best feature of this version of the LittLite is the cord, which separates near the mount/dimmer. This allows me to remove only the light head when buttoning up the road cases. The remainder of the cord stays in place, wired and ready to go. I love this feature. The second-worst feature of this unit is the dimmer switch. The light intensity does not adjust fully across the range of the potentiometer. Full brightness is achieved at about the 75% position, with no change in light output from that point. The worst feature of this unit is that full brightness is not as bright as prior versions of this product. My 30 year old halogen, fixed-cord, hard-mount is easily twice as bright. And that was my expectation. I still like it a lot - but honestly the company could (and should) have done better.
