Update : D'Addario Kaplan KS511 'cello string
D'Addario replaced a new string which snapped during installation at no charge. They did so by quickly replying to my e-mail and following through immediately. These strings are excellent (not cheap) and fabulous service from the manufacturer will keep them as my 'go-to' brand. I use their guitar, bass, and mandolin strings as well. Sweetwater and D'Addario -- you cannot lose !

I've become accustomed to and generally pleased with this brand. However, this particular example snapped at the top during ordinary installation. D'Addario is one of my two 'go-to' brands for guitar strings as well ; they have been pleasant and cooperative about replacing defective products in the past so I hope they will do the same for this orchestral product.
