Avantone Pro Kick Dynamic Kick Drum Microphone Reviews

Figure-8 Sub-frequency Dynamic Bass Microphone (50Hz-2kHz) with Stand

Avantone turned heads last year with its white-coned classic monitor speaker reproductions, the CLA10s. Now Avantone is resurrecting another studio standard in the Avantone Kick sub-frequency bass mic. Whether it's the low-frequency belch of a bass cab or the visceral gut-punch of a kick drum you're trying to capture onstage or in the studio, the Kick and its special 6.5" white-coned transducer picks up the slack where other microphones fail. We've found the Kick to be a great complement to the Avantone MONDO as well as a variety of standard bass mics. Just like the original, the Kick's 6.5" press-formed driver comes mounted in a real birch drum shell and mounted to double-braced stand for hassle-free positioning and long-lasting durability. Missing the low end from your bass instruments? Have a look at the Avantone Kick from Sweetwater.

Nothing has captured the thump and low end in the mix like this mic. Huge upgrade to my drum recordings!

Wonderful addition!!! SUPER Hot signal

This thing is exactly what I was looking for and didn't even know it. I've been tracking drums professionally for around a decade and sometimes you get a little comfortable with your go-to tricks - that is until you add something like this subkick to the arsenal and wonder how you thought what you were doing before was acceptable. Big word of advice - the signal on this thing is HOT HOT HOT. So make sure you're prepared. I was using it through a PreSonus studio channel with the -20db pad in, input gain at about 9 o clock and the output at 9 o clock as well...then my Studio Channel broke on me so I tried to use it straight into my Saffire Pro 40...even with the pad this thing is bright red clipping. So I ran to the store to grab a portico 511 since I had an extra slot in my lunchbox....not enough headroom on that even with input and output all the way down...so I'm running it through my Avedis MA5 with the gain all the way down and my output knob at around 8 o clock...Or you can grab an in line attenuator for $20. Actually I'm going to run to the store to grab one right now...I want my Avedis on something more colorful...But yeah it's phenomenal, just be prepared for the level.
