It all begins with a familiar 32-note Slimkey keybed, complete with velocity sensitivity and aftertouch for maximum sonic expressivity. The KeyStep's notable sequencer and arpeggiator engines remain intact, albeit loaded with one-touch mutation tools, Chord and Scale play modes, and 16 arpeggiation modes that offer more versatile melodic foundations than ever before. Sweetwater producers were quick to note the addition of the Mk2 series’ onboard OLED display and push encoder configuration, making the KeyStep's profound polyphonic sequencing tools even easier to manage on any stage. definitely a nice build quality. the keys feel nice. the arp and sequencer are excellent. the mutate button is pretty cool.
Quality Control Issues not Typical with Arturia Products - On / Off Switch Failure on Second Use
I own many Arturia products including hardware and software synths and an audio interface, and have had no issues with their products in the past. Compared to other Arturia products, this is cheap plastic and does not feel sturdy. Worse yet, this cheapness extends to a part that MUST be robust or the controller won't continue to work properly. The on/off switch failed on only the second usage for me and cracked on the inside. I can hear part of it rolling around inside the keyboard and it will no longer power on. The thing is, almost no pressure was used on the switch to actuate it on or off, so the part must have already been cracked before I got it :( I'm going to return it and the design is bad enough that I won't replace it with the same model.
