Just right
Big rubber feet, nice. Solid metal screws into metal nuts on clamps, nice. The extension shaft junction collars are plastic but seem rugged enough to last a long time. Extension shaft clamping is solid, no slippage. If you extend all shafts to their absolute maximum range, the stand is wobbly but back off a few inches and everything is stable. Extension shafts are a reasonable diameter steel and support two mikes comfortably. I mounted two Rode NT1's in shock mount cages on a stereo bar at max height, (minus the 2 inches I mentioned,) and the stand is very stable. It rocks once or twice if you push it but it stabilizes quickly. Lastly, this stand collapses to a height small enough to fit in my mike/speaker stand carrying bag. I am very pleased with this stand.
K&M Tower Excels
I have used microphone towers for decades, since approximately 1883. Thin aluminum 15' towers with thumb screws were my first, followed by large and awkward studio booms set up straight upwards, then adapting light poles which were lighter but subject to tube deformation due to adjustment knobs screwing directly into the pole segments to tighten. K&M towers are the solution, heavy but with a small(er) footprint, adjustment locks which tighten the circumference and thus do not distort. These are without question the best towers that I have owned.
Great stand, but not 10' without a boom arm.
This is a really nice product. It fits easily into a speaker stand bag and supports a mic, stereo bar or a boom with no problem. I bought two and love them. My only issue is that it is only 8' tall when extended - not 10 feet as mentioned. With a decent boom you can safely get to around 10'10".
