Neumann KM 184 Stereo Set Small-diaphragm Cardioid Microphone Pair - Nickel Reviews

Stereo Pair Series 180 Small-diaphragm Cardioid Condenser Microphones in Wooden Case - Nickel

At Sweetwater, we have microphones to handle even the most specialized applications. The Neumann KM 184 Stereo Pair is the perfect example. Need a microphone to record percussion, cymbals, or brass instruments? Neumann's KM 184 Stereo Pair is capable of handling high sound pressure levels with ease - as high as 138dB before overloading. But it's also extremely quiet, making it an excellent choice for capturing the subtle nuances of acoustic guitars and orchestral instruments. And you get that classic Neumann sound!

They’re great!

By Sweetwater Customer on April 7, 2022

I can't believe I'm the first to review the nickel finish pair!

I have used 184's as main mics for classical/chamber recording, string quartets, steel and nylon string guitar, solo/overdubbed piano, live piano in a band context, group and individual vocals, upright bass, drum overheads, percussion, harp, banjo, cajon, djembe, etc.

They are clear and detailed without being strident. The midrange is smooth and silky, and the transient information is excellent. Off axis sound is clear and even. They're small and compact and can get in tight spaces. They can handle a decent amount of SPL, and are very quiet.

This is my second pair of KM 184's, I love them. If Neumann reissued the KM84, I'd buy 2 pair right away. But I'd still keep a pair of these for the rest of my career. In my experience, you can't have too many of these mics.
