Don't let the simplicity fool you
let's put it this way... It even makes my Mesa Boogie sound better. Less really is more with a clean boat but the addition of the drive/distortion knob really sets this thing apart. A real Swiss Army of drive
Won't live without it
The Katana clean boost pedal is exactly what I've been looking for. My testing was done with a G&L S500 and a Gibson ES 335 run through a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe.
With the single-coil S500, as the gain on the box is turned up, the sound becomes drier, more piercing, punchier, and altogether more satisfying to make and to listen to. It's like turning up the gain on my amp without getting the accompanying distortion - just an awesome sound. I got a Clapton-like (sweeter) tone with the gain low, and a Keith Richards-like (grittier) tone with the gain higher. My favorite setting is where the chords try to break up, and ALMOST do. I found my sweet spot.
With a humbucker 335, as the gain on the box is turned up, everything happens as described above, except that the chords really do break up, but expressively - there is no hint of loss of sharpness or of dynamics. The chord break-up is to be expected - playing through a humbucker is using two pickups at once, thus doubling the signal to the box relative to a single coil.
I haven't yet tested or even tried the increased-gain feature, the one accessed by pulling out the gain knob.
Having just one knob - gain - tells me that's all this box needs, and it is indeed so. The gain knob has such a sweep that a wide range of gain is on tap for the choosing.
I chose the white box - I mean, PINK? The large expanse of blank white on the cover leaves me room for a nice little abstract painting.
Happy playing.
The Keeley Katana is ultimate transparent clean boost!
Keeley Katana in "Throwback White"
The industry hype is all true!
If you're completely satisfied with your core tone and you just want to boost the volume without altering your sound, the Keeley Katana delivers exactly as advertised. The large volume knob makes adjustment your level quick and easy on the fly.
If you want to add a fat, harmonically rich boost, pull out the volume knob and season to taste.
The Keeley Katana is easy to use, and the Throwback White finish looks great on my pedal board and it's easy to see on a dark stage when I want to hit the boost for a solo.
The construction is solid, the layout is brilliant, and the quality is top notch.
I highly recommended the Keeley Katana to any working musician.

volume pedal
works great.It's silent!!
It’s a boost, but it’s not clean
For what it does, the boost is great! Nice way to live up a drive or push an amp. However, this is a very specific tone and color on your the knob is difficult to dial in. We need the original style enclosure and circuit again.
The not clean, clean boost
This pedal colors your signal in quite a specific way. It is not transparent, and is rather difficult to fine tune. The wheel on the side can be easily moved, and when you're tap dancing on pedals the last thing you want is to accidentally boost your signal 10db more than what you wanted (it happened, it was horrible).
If you want THAT boosted sound, this does it and does it well. However, I'd recommend looking elsewhere for an actual "clean" clean boost.
