Honest specs

By Sweetwater Customer on April 25, 2024

I didn't get a chance to listen to these before purchase but relied on the reviews. I kept my fingers crossed. Wow! I already had a KH750 sub that I thought I would need but I am leaving that in another system. The low frequency extension is outstanding in a partially treated room (about 17x23x11). Once the room is fully treated I may revisit the sub if needed to make up for energy loss. The specs show limiting at 100db but that can be increased via a switch on the back. I have to thank Neumann for publishing honest specs.

Why did I not do this sooner! These are stellar!

By Tim Dolbear from Nashville, TN on September 19, 2023 Music Background: Full time professional mixing engineer Music/Film/TV

I had used the KH-120 for the last 11 years (with a sub). My studio prior to 2019 was Professionally-Design but smaller than my current. A small rooms (15X12X8) and it was problematic. My current room is 21X15X11 and again Professionally-Design, I was fighting with small EQ adjustments in the 90Hz to 250Hz range, so I decided to make the leap up to the KH310. All my issues are gone! I was so worried about learning new speakers and had hoped these would be similar enough that it would be a smooth transition and it was! No down time once the speakers were aligned/leveled and set up with the sub making them a 4 way system. Same excellent detail, and stereo image as the KH120, but so much more, more punch, better transients, so beautifully represented across all freq ranges. Absolutely amazing!

KH310 plus KH750 sub = amazing

By Sweetwater Customer on November 25, 2022

I got a pair of KH310 and a KH750 sub. The 310's arrived a day ahead of the sub, and the 310's alone sounded great. But the sub makes a world of difference. If you're spending the coin for the 310's, don't debate with yourself about the KH750. Get the sub. In spite of the charts showing the 310s are deep, the sub adds clarity and depth in the low-end that no serious engineer should work without. I think the Neumann marketing department needs to sell a package deal with the sub and the MA1.

I was happy with my prior monitors (JBL LSR32's with the JBL 6312 sub), but the investment in the Neumanns was a good one. My old JBLs are now in my "listening room" as mid-fields, where they are better suited, anyway. The Neumanns happily live in Studio A.

These tell the truth

By Sam from Lubbock on October 19, 2022 Music Background: Producer, Singer-songwriter

First thing I noticed about these speakers was… nothing. You don't hear the speakers. You just hear the music as it is. I used to struggle with mixing on my JBLs despite training with Soundgym for over a year and practicing in general for over a decade. I just couldn't hear what I was doing… and if I made moves that I could hear on those monitors, my mixes would sound wack on other sound systems. With the KH310s, I can trust that I'm hearing the truth. These things are absolutely killer. They are expensive. But if you're serious about mixing, you owe it to yourself to save up and get these. They may just be the last monitors you ever need.

Couldn't believe what I was missing!

By Jeff from Virgina on December 10, 2021

I was coming from KRK 5" G2 Rokits, so this was going to be a massive upgrade, at least in terms of cost. I don't spend that kind of money lightly, so I did a lot of research before buying these. I spent a lot of money and time on room treatment and am glad to say my room is finally pretty good as measured with REW and calibrated mic. I've also had a few months with these at this point.

These were really worth every penny. I could not believe the things I was hearing I'd never heard before... I was expecting to find some junk in my mixes and was, of course, not disappointed there. The real surprise was listening to pro mixes of some classic, popular, and less popular tunes! Now I frequently hear mistakes that I had no idea about.

After some initial adjustment on my part, I also really enjoy listening to music on these. I have kept the Rokits for now for playback speakers for the less initiated. My wife finds these hard hand prefers everything on the Rokits. I like everything better on these myself.

For anyone who is wondering, "Do I need a sub with these?" My answer is no, you probably do no -- unless you or your clients need the earth to quake. I definitely do not. I do mostly finger style acoustic with some fuller arrangements of rock, country, jazz mixed in for fun. Again, I have ample bass trapping in my space. I am very pleased with the tight, full low end these provide.... so much more clarity than I've ever head before. The low end is there for me. Not lacking as measured or heard.

Mind-blowing response

Stunning Monitors that Perform Amazingly

By rimbaud234 from San Francisco on January 2, 2021 Music Background: Professional Musician, Producer, Mixer, Engineer

I upgraded my studio monitors to the KH310s recently before I started mixing a new project. I was a little concerned about starting something new without "living with" the new monitors. I needn't have worried. I listened to some of my favorite songs when I unboxed them and I fell in love with them immediately. The reviews aren't hype: tight dry bottom end, clear mids and highs, GREAT imaging. My mixes immediately sounded better, more quickly and translated better, sooner than previous work on lesser monitors. It was worth every $$ to raise to this level. I. Love. These. Speakers.

Money Very Well Spent

By Cbusser on December 21, 2020 Music Background: Musician, engineer and producer

Over many years, I improved acoustics in my room and updated my signal chain. But after years of mixing through my NS10Ms, I knew I had to elevate my game. This year, I thought at some point I'd be able to travel to shootout studio monitors in person, but as everyone knows now, 2020 had different plans for everyone, including me. A very well-respected mastering engineer friend of mine said "you want the KH310A." That was going to be a significant investment and I didn't have a way to safely try them out, but I trusted my friend and ordered a pair. They are without a doubt the best studio investment I've made in quite some time. I hear details in music I've never heard before. The low end is incredible. I've never heard it so clear. Again, just exceptional studio monitors.

Neuman KH 310

I've had these for a while now and absolutely love them. They are extremely flat and translate very well.

Kh310 wow.

By Jeff Blanchard on July 2, 2019

Amazing stereo image and full range sound. When put with a matching sub these things rock the studio.

Need a pair

By Sweetwater Customer on March 13, 2019

I'm currently interning at a studio and they have a pair of these, and holy ****. They sound great! When I go back to using genelacs at another studio i use, they sound empty in comparison. These are great!

Simple review

Honestly, this has been the best investment I have ever made in my home studio.

The rest of the reviews have served justice to the positive experiences they have had so I wont bore you...

BUT WOW!

Very musical and accurate!

By R Ogle from USA on April 29, 2018 Music Background: Mixing Mastering Producing

These are not the sexiest speaker. They don't have the cool marketing. They won't hype your music and make you say, "Wow, I'm so cool!". So why buy them? Because they are seriously accurate. I A/B'd these with a set of Focal SoloB's which are fine speakers. I thought the SoloB's could get a little boomy fast, but they do let you know when you're getting too much low mid. BUT... If you get a mix that sounds good on the Focal and switch it to the KH310, it just warms your heart and makes you go, "ahh"! Yeah, like that! Like I said at first they seem kind of plain, somewhat vanilla, no big deal, but work on the mix a little and you are rewarded big time. I do mostly acoustic instruments with some acoustic rock, and I have to say they definitely shine on what I do. I used to A/B with some Avantones, but with these, I don't even bother until I'm mostly there.

Best monitor for tracking guitar

By mcoffey a.k.a. andyc from VA on February 23, 2017

I can't even begin to count all the gear I've gotten thru Sweetwater without a single review until now.
I track a lot of electric guitar thru modelers along with live amps thru the console. As full range monitors they are as life like like as it gets. Everything just sounds real and correct whether tracking, mixing or mastering. Listening to good recordings freezes me to the seat. Imaging and soundstage are perfect. Easy to dial in with the filters. My room can be tough so I was really surprised at how easy these were to get right, especially given their size.

Had a hiccup with the monitors and Sweetwater sent advanced replacements before I knew they were missing. Big purchases are so much better when done thru great companies like Sweetwater. My account rep Sean Geyer is a consummate pro with a depth and breath of knowledge that's unsurpassed.

Dollar for dollar, best purchase I've made for the studio.

Incredible

By Sweetwater Customer on November 29, 2016

Incredible. Beautiful midrange and tight low end that keeps the guesswork out of my mixes. High frequency driver is detailed without being hyped. Overall a very flat but musical sounding monitor. Upgraded from my Focal Solo 6B monitors and haven't looked back.

Unbelievable Amazing !!

By Solo Wang on April 8, 2015 Music Background: Composer

I upgrade my system from Dynaudio BM5A MK2 to this little monster. They are just blown my mind. Clear field, layered depth, and solid low-end. This is the best near field monitor that I have ever heard !

Excellent

By Eric Matthews from The Motor City on November 13, 2014 Music Background: Hobbyist.

Listen to me, for those who think $4500 is too much to spend on a set of monitors, the KH 310A will change your mind and mixes over night. After auditioning these in your studio your not going to want to listen to anything else....trust me. If there's anything wrong with your mix, they will reveal it. These babies go low and the bass is tight and controlled. the mids and high are balanced just right. Somehow it seems like I'm seeing (hearing) into the speakers....the depth is amazing. These are the real deal no if's, and's or but's about it. A friend of mine spent about 2 hours listen to them in my studio. He went home turned on his monitors and had to look behind them and his mixer to make sure wasn't any wires loose. That was just over 2 weeks ago and he's still blown away today. Myself I can't put into words what these monitors have done for my mixes.....their just unbelievable!!!!

KH310: THEY SOUND LIKE A RECORD!!!

By Ryan Gridlok from San Francisco, CA, USA on July 2, 2014 Music Background: DJ, Producer, Remixer

After over 20 years of using various studio monitors I have found a pair that sound like a record. They push out the emotion and the depth. All the bull%@t sales pitch phrases you hear to sell stuff that doesn't deliver. No matter how many speakers I've been threw I was always left imagining what mixes would sound like when they're played on something that actually has vibe. The vibes are here, and the fidelity easily rivals the usual suspects. Go ALL IN. This is your MUSIC!!!

Neumann KH 310

By Christian Dillner Hagen on December 16, 2013 Music Background: Hobbyist doing pop/dance

After having some trouble getting my KH120's to translate bass/lowend well it was time to look for new and bigger monitors. Enter the KH 310's!

I'm tempted to just write WOW and end the review with that.
But here is a short review :

As with the KH 120 the very first impression is kind of boring and flat. However first impression quickly passes when I start to eq and mix and hear how amazingly accurate the monitors are. They make the KH 120's top end sound a bit harsh and the bass/lowend lacking and struggling in comparison.

I'v read several other reviews of the KH 310 as being effortless. That's my impression aswell. They are never struggling with any frequencies or level. What's equally impressive to the lowend is the huge width/soundstage. With some reverb and delay effects it sound like a surround system. I hear sounds coming from behind!

For my budget (hobbyist) they are expensive, but from other reviews I'v read they are among the top 5 commercially available monitors you can buy today. And the others on the top 5 list cost two and three times as much.

I'm super happy with these.
Highly reccomended!

No One Does It Better !!

By Alex Romero from Tampa,Fl on December 4, 2013 Music Background: Pro Recording Engineer

The goal was to find a set of monitors that would open up the mix with out coloring it. Neumann did that with so much ease. I have my monitors set to the lowest output and I can not get over how powerful they still are with so little input and how transparent the sound coming out is. Every little adjustment to Eq and Compression is hear. You can hear and feel the db's changing. I could not be happier with this purchase .Makes my yamaha ns-10's obsolete to my mixing process.
