Value Guitar That PacksA Punch!

By Ray on January 6, 2023

This is the least expensive electric guitar that sweetwater sells. This plays amazing with its alnico pickups and 5 way blade switch! The finish, I can't find a paint flaw on my model that I received. The tuners are okay and the stock strings as well. Action is low, no buzziness, etc. I'm pleasantly surprised by such a low cost guitar!

I'm a returning guitar player in the process of selling the house. I've sold all my guitars, amps, and piano; and needed a new guitar to get my feet wet again whiles the house is being sold. I paired this with the behringer 10 watt bedroom Amp, I don't play loud. I also kept my old line 6 amplifi tt. After the move I plan on getting the peavey vypyr x1 guitar/bass/acoustic Amp, like a spark Amp but half the price.

A Great First Guitar

I bought this guitar with the intention of hanging it on the wall as a decoration. Upon unboxing and playing this axe I was pleasantly surprised at how well it played and the quality of the sound from such an inexpensive guitar. Is it a Fender Squire or Fender Stratocaster, NO, but as a first guitar it's a great way to get started learning to play.

The body, neck and pickups are very good. Some of the hardware like tuners and the 1/4 inch socket for your cable or wireless transmitters could be better. I recommend replacing the strings as soon as possible.

If you are looking for a good first guitar, this one definitely qualifies. If you want a guitar to customize to your own playing style, this instrument also fits the bill. Fitting it with new tuners, better quality pickups and whatever else fits your needs as a musician without feeling like you are desecrating an expensive instrument, then this guitar will encourage you to do so.

Kramer of TV fame, the name says it all. Inexpensive but you can't resist playing it!

Holy smokes!

Over the last few years I have been working towards learning how to turn a turd guitar into a gem. Most cheap Chinese guitars I have played/purchased have come in pretty rough condition especially the fit and finish. I was fortunate enough to find one of these Kramer focus guitars on there website, they still had one grey one left which I instantly purchased.

My very first guitar was was a Kramer focus just about 20 years ago, I was impressed with the quality for the price back then and I'm impressed now! The guitar is flawless, while it's not extremely heavy, it's heavy enough to believe it is indeed mahogany. I was surprised to see the frets on mine came perfect, there are no fret ends sticking out to cut my hand. While the pickups are OK for the money, ide even say as good as your ever going to get for the money they aren't amazing. Hardware as expected is on the cheaper side but serviceable. And yes, it really really needs a setup job. The neck looks awesome, although I don't like the finish on the back of the neck feels a little, sticky, or plasticey?

None of these flaws matter to me, it's getting gutted, I'll give it a neck job, change the tuners well pretty much everything but, that's my hobby. When I'm done, I hope to have a guitar that plays and sounds like something 8 times this price.

I hate when people say,"great starter guitar". As if all you can offord is this guitar you can never be a pro, that's false. Many experienced guitar players and myself will tell you, that if you are good you can make just about any decent guitar sound expensive especially if it's set up well. This guitar could easily and I mean easily sell at $200.00. If you need something good on the cheap, or better yet a project guitar, you won't be disappointed. At $... you would be hard pressed to find a mahogany body guitar with a nice finish at this price, all the rest are just a bonus to me! Amazing!

Just ok... but what was expected for the price

I just wanted something cheap to take out and play occasionally since chronic back problems caused me to sell my better gear since I couldn't enjoy it any longer. The Kramer Focus fits the bill but a few things could still be better. The tuning machines are absolute junk even for a guitar at this price point, the ones that came on mine are borderline unusable and will have to be replaced but finding drop in ones is impossible, you can't even use Fender F style ones because the screw holes are at opposite corners from these. The pickups sound decent considering the price but the humbucker fits very sloppy in the pickguard I assume due to very light springs, no matter how you adjust it it will get on an angle that causes the outside of the cover to contact the strings. The neck is ok, mine had perfect fret ends but no matter what truss rod or saddle adjustments I make it still has some fret buzz but when you buy a guitar at this price point you have to expect that. I also have major issues so far trying to get it close to intonated, I hope to at least solve that issue to some extent.

That said it is a low priced guitar with a maple neck and a mahogany body. The finish on mine is decent, it did come with some heavy light surface scratching on the back and even after removing the 2 layers of protective film the pickguard was already scratched some but nothing too bad. At the end of the day it will serve its purpose and the only major gripe I have is those tuning machines. If you buy one you won't be overly disappointed if you believe in, "you get what you pay for" and are prepared in advance to get $ worth of guitar.
