Keeley Compressor Plus Compressor Pedal Reviews

Compressor Pedal for Electric Guitar and Bass

Keeley's compressor pedals have gathered worldwide acclaim, and the Keeley Compressor Plus pedal continues the trend by incorporating player-requested features. Like the Blend control, which allows you to bring in some of your dry signal along with the compressed signal for the best of both worlds — dynamic and fatter at the same time. A much-requested Tone control allows you to fine-tune the Keeley Compressor Plus appropriately for any guitar. And the simplified Attack switch makes it faster to dial in a great sound. Whether you want to tame the peaks on a plucky Tele, or simply want to fatten up your tone with any guitar, Sweetwater can highly recommend the Keeley Compressor Plus pedal.

Terrible pedal

By James M. from Canton, MA

I did own one of these, and it was bad. Strange noise coming from it, even at very low level.. the tone knob on it really makes no sense.. just sounds bad across the board. I don't think it does anything well.

A Hatred More Intense Than 10,000 White Hot Suns

By Al S. from SMYRNA, GA
Music Background: I started playing i 1958. I still play 3 to 5 hours a day.

On line reviews can't, or won't convey the noise, lack of "tone", and complete disappointment this pedal has engendered.
First, the tone dial should not exist. If this effect can't accurately reproduce the narrow bandwidth produced by any guitar it shouldn't be. This tone dial is supposed to be a compensation device. It's not. It's a cheap, single band tone control.
The overall effect is not just a collapse of your dynamic range, it's a major alteration to your sound, when audible. If it's not an audible enhancement, why bother? If you like your sound, you might just hate the Keely-comp.
It would be hard to imagine a situation where the semi useful, more subtle contributions of this effect would be of any value above audience noise, snare rattle and guitar amp anomalies.
There's more but I'll leave it at: try this, or any other pedal out before purchasing. I bought mine in August so I guess I'm done licking my wounds.

The one pedal you need to own

By James B. from LAS VEGAS, NV

I am not a big pedal guy, but this is the one pedal that really does what it advertises. It brightens and sharpens the tone and actually superchargers your amplifier as if you're playing through stadium monitors. OK I'm being a little hyperbolic, but give it a try.

Compressor Plus

By Fuzzy B. from THE GREAT STATE OF TEXAS
Music Background: Live sound engr Studio owner / engr Guitar and a little Bass

This is a fine compressor, I tried others but they were all too dirty. this one is transparent and pretty clean even with hot humbuckers. I only use it with clean guitar parts usually with chorus and delay and it sounds great. I don't use it with high gain. I liked it so much that I bought another one for a second board. if you play with single coils it is a no brainer, I am a bucker guy mostly but use singles a little too, works for both. this thing is built really well, I had to take it apart because the tip of a 1/4'' plug came off in it. I bent the legs of the pots pretty bad trying to get it out. put it back together and it works fine, a testament to good build quality. a shout out to my rep Brian Kerns for suggesting it. very happy with the sound quality. get one, you will like it. Compressor

By Thomas from Az
Music Background: Start playing in 1976 played in Christian rock bands through the 80s now exclusively worship guitar.

Looking for a new compressor to replace my true tone, (which still works fine ) looking for high compressor. I have the Keeley halo which I love so I thought I'd try their comp. It works well even with all the supposed upgraded components in it. I would say maybe 5% better than my true tone. The problem is it is a very noisy compressor. I play worship guitar and in between songs you turn the volume down but if you don't shut this compressor off it whines and makes a lot of noise. They need to put a noise gate in this compressor so back it went and I'm going to try the Wampler.
Thanks to Sweetwater and Nate for making it easy to shop online. Thomas

The Best for your Board

By B.P. from Ohio
Music Background: Recording Engineer, Guitarist, teacher

So, you've been looking at Empress, Cali76,the OG MXR Dynacomp, maybe even the Orange Kongpressor and now this. You want something bright, spanky, articulate, with miles of sustain and can blend in a mix. You want instant, 0-latency compression on-tap.

Without a doubt, this is the BEST pedal for you. The 2 button is nice, but this is pro-grade. From chicken pickin' to punchy metal leads, this thing does funk to fuzz real nice.

The sustain knob is unreasonably good, and the blend is the hidden weapon. This makes my LP 55 spec's pickups sound out of this world.

Out of miles of testing, the Keeley compressor is the best for the dynacomp brightness, and the cutting punch needed by modern players in prog and metal. Love this pedal.

Always on

By Sweetwater Customer

Terrific pedal I use primarily with a Burstbucker Les Paul and a little tube Vox amp. Amazing effect on sustain and brings even more chime to the amp without being noisy. This really is the best pedal I've ever used in 30yrs of playing rock and blues. Great for more pop sounds too - think U2 - allowing for switching between aggressive rhythm strumming and lead without dropping out of the mix. If you buy one, you'll never play without it.

Surprise favorite feature!

By McDiggittyDog from Fargo North Dakota
Music Background: Hobby player with delusions of grandeur.

The sustain. Wow. It's just incredible. Not sure I can properly put it into words. Not a pro, not super duper experienced with pedals, yet it is a feature that adds more value to an already amazing pedal. Never expected sustain to be my favorite control on this. Crazy good. Never even picked this pedal out for anything at all to do with sustain. But it's the magic part of it, for me anyway. Love it!

Having a Blend knob is SOOOOO important

By Sweetwater Customer

I've owned several compressor pedals over the years and almost all of them were just TOO heavy-handed. They gave you a lot of sustain but just squashed the hell out of your tone. The Keeley Compressor Plus is much different and much better, mostly because you can back off the Blend knob and it gives you a mix of your natural guitar tone mixed with the compressed tone. So in addition to being a really clean pedal, it also allows you to get just a bit of compression rather than over-squashing everything. To set it, start with the Sustain knob just barely turned up, maybe about 8:00 and the Blend knob all the way to the left (dry signal only). Set Level and Tone at 12:00. Very gently turn up the Blend to no more than about 9:00 at first, and gradually bring up the Sustain until you get a setting that plays comfortably Then you might want to back off the Blend a little.

Also important is that they really nailed the compressor attack for both humbucking and single coil pickups, the switch works perfectly. And finally, this pedal can also be used as a clean boost by setting the blend all the way to the left and boosting the level. This pedal really is an excellent design and has a lot of features for a very reasonable price.

Goes on every board I own

By Carter B. from Dallas, GA

Granted, I only have two boards...so far.

It's a very good compressor pedal. I make a lot of indie/tappy emo sounding stuff and it just hits that tone perfectly. Everything sounds crystal. I am only giving it half a star off because it's a pain to dial in sometimes if you have a hot overdrive pedal on the board, but tbh I don't even know if it's fair to blame the pedal for that.

Great lil thang.

Keeley Compressor Plus Pedal - A Difference Maker

By Don P. from Pensacola, FL
Music Background: Songwriter, Guitarist, Musician, Home Recorder and Producer

After researching and watching a YouTube vid on how this pedal works in conjunction with the Keeley Amp Limiting pedal already on my board, I decided to order from Sweetwater. Upon receipt, I placed right after the Fuzz, Boost, and EQ pedals. What an immediately noticeable difference and effect on tone. All of my pedals just sounded better and more nuanced! The Keeley Amp Limiting pedal is at the end of my chain and allows for control of overall Threshold. Yet, the Compressor Plus delivers a seemingly endless array of options to flavor tone, sustain, and the amount of compression. The Blend knob provides a simple way to balance dry signal and compression. Just a fabulous addition to my pedalboard. There are lots of good compressors, but cannot imagine any working better with my set-up. Love the fact that there's a switch to fine-tune settings for either Single Coils or Humbuckers, too. It's not necessary to switch back and forth, but it's a subtle enhancement when engaged. For anyone wanting a straightforward compression pedal with intuitive controls, the Keeley Compressor Plus pedal would likely satisfy your expectations. It works quite well with different guitars, amps, and the other pedals on my board. Another flawless transaction with Sweetwater and a well-deserved shout-out to my Sales Engineer, Daniel Nesmith, as always.

This compressor was suggested to me by my sales engineer Andy Rice. At one time I was a fan of the Dyna comp. However, I feel this one is far advanced. Terrific Pedal

By Sweetwater Customer

Relatively new to the electric side of the guitar world, so take this review for what it's worth. I just added this compressor to my pedal board and all I can say is wow. This should have been the first pedal I bought. Tightens up the sound of my Telecaster so nicely, and plays super nice with both my Blues Driver and Fuzz pedals, particularly the latter. It's early days, but at the moment I'd say this is the very last pedal that I'd part with on my board.

All that is needed

By Brian B. from Elkview, WV

This is the only effect I dare to use on a Deluxe Reverb with, Covina Tele and Strat. Excellent compression. It doesn't switch into another sound so much as it takes the sound you have and refines it. Great gear.

What a Compressor is Supposed to Sound Like!

By Daniel L. from Salem, NH
Music Background: Guitarist | Composer | Producer

Even though I already have an "always-on" compressor on my board (the JHS Pulp N' Peel), I had heard so many good things about the Keeley Compressor Plus I had to give it a try. Well, all the hype is real. This is an outstanding compressor that can be set to an always-on position or to get that "squash" on a Tele that is so sought after as well as everything in between. In my case, I'm still keeping my Pulp N' Peel, but I turn that off and kick in the Keeley when I need that extra sustain and push I'd want for a solo or lead line. The single coil/humbucker switch really does what it's supposed to do and is a brilliant addition to the circuit. This compressor is competitively priced and is well worth the money. Whether you're in the market for an always-on compressor pedal or a special effects compressor, the Keeley Compressor will gt the job done!

A must-have

Possibly my favorite pedal. This is a pure tone machine. This has really fattened the sound of my Player-series Strat and added much needed sustain. Really easy to use controls for dialing in just the right sound. This is first-in-line on my board and always on.

Crazy good

By Sweetwater Customer from Nashville
Music Background: 45 years professional guitarist

It's as good and better than you think. Completely transparent and subtle or maximum compressed yet uncolored. Set up as on all of the time, or use as an effect. I'm not sure why I waited this long to own one, but it has a permanent place on my simple pedalboard.

Easy to use and sounds good for all sorts of applications

By KC from NY
Music Background: Guitarist, 90's emo veteran

It was very easy to dial this thing in quickly and get to making music. It can be a really subtle always on compressor that legit makes everything better, and it can get all squishy if that's what you're after. Works incredible as a boost pedal with the ability to of course add some very slight leveling in as well. A friend suggested I check this pedal out and I'm glad he did. Definitely my favorite pedal compressor I've tried. Total winner.

Could not give it 5 stars due to overdrive/clipping

By SSR from Atlanta, GA

I had an issue with this pedal when the sustain was above 50%, the signal was getting clipped (overdriven). Sweetwater was great, they sent me a replacement, but still had the same issue. I called Keeley and they explained that it is normal at high settings of sustain. I'm using different PAF-style pickups in different guitars, none would be considered high output but all had this issue. Keeley explained that the pedal was designed to be able to handle much lower output pickups as well as slightly higher outputs.

I was able to find an excellent sound/tone with the sustain at about 40%. Other than the limitations already said, the pedal sounds great. I usually only use a compressor on clean tones which is why the clipping was an issue.

I just wish Keeley has that info published in their manuals and/or FAQs.

Very much needed

By William R. from Texas
Music Background: Pastor and lead Guitar on praise team

This is an awesome pedal that I can't believe I waited so long to get. I never really thought I needed a compressor because my misunderstanding of what a compressor does. I leave it on all the time and it keeps everything tamed. The distortion (Revv G3) sounds so much better not that it sounded bad before but now there is more clarity. Clean amp with chorus or phaser sounds amazing as the notes are very articulate. I use the recommended setting for always on which is blend at 3 sustain at 9 level at 12 and tone at 12 through a Blackstar HT 40 with a V 30 speaker. It works great with HB's Gibson Tribute and also with single coil Fender American Strat and a Tele player plus. Hope this helps if you are considering this compressor. Thanks to Nate for all your help as Sweetwater is the best by far in the business

Excellent - can't find a bad sound

By JK from USA

As a Pedal Minimalist - every pedal has to be great, or it's why bother, and it's out. Easy to Use - every control makes sense, and your ears guide you quickly. I use it as Always On, but it would also work great as a Boost, with whatever degree of added sustain that suits you. Two great features, the Humbucker / Single Coil switch, and the Blend knob - they work great and make life easy.

Worlds most popular for a reason!

By Paul L.
Music Background: Over 50 years playing Prog/Metal. Played in UK Prog band Tallis in the 70's

First there is a lot bull and hype about transparent and studio quality. The most prized compressors are decades old and by today's standards low tech that are loved because they had neither transparency or had tech even close to today's comps. The whole thing is they compressed and added to your tone in a good way.
The C.+ is just that that. It sounds killer and does the job. Paying double the money to get other's comps at best gives you a pleasing different sound but not better. Finally unlike the pricey comps you can dial in a great sound without hours reading a manual written in baffle-gab.

Great Pedal!!!

By John H. from Woodway, TX

I run this before the Koko Boost pedal into a Friedman JJ100 and SmallBox 50 (both modded with gain saturation channels).
This pedal really adds a better defined guitar clarity signal to the amp (especially in cleaner amp mode). The sustain and level feature are awesome on this pedal. The amps have more than enough gain and with this pedal it does add some enhanced punch.

Paired with a Koko Boost, no need for distortion boxes.

I like gear that gets you where you want to be, and quickly. I had this compressor before, and sold it because I thought I would get something better. So I had my "gear acquisition syndrome" for a year and blew through expensive compressors, struggling with tone. I looped back around and purchased this little black beauty again. And there it was. Plug and play. Gorgeous. Made everything sound better, hands down. Period. From the first chord I new my quest was finally over. It just works. It's great. The aesthetics are perfect. It's made in the USA. The search is over. Buy one now, you won't regret it. Period.

Compressors do almost nothing

By Sweetwater Customer

Waste of money. Sooo many people believe in this placebo effect pedal, but in actuality these do almost nothing at all. They slightly modify the sound of the attack but only in a way suitable for something like funk or twangy type picking. Definitely not for me. Watch the sweetwater demo video on compressors before buying any of them. See if you can identify any differences in the sound. I wish I watched it before buying.

Unification

By Jeffrey T. from Portland Oregon
Music Background: Music degree, published, dying to get back on stage.

I've got a song writing studio where I play drums, bass, keyboard, guitar and sing. Guitar has alway been difficult for me. I love my little guitar collection which includes a Telecaster, Stratocaster, and a more modern Yamaha RGXA2 with humbuckers. The thing I love about the Keeley Compressor Plus is that it quickly and easily tames all these different guitar types down to there best sound. I never get lost on what my best setup is when I'm switching back and forth between guitar types. Now I love my little guitar collection more than ever.

I just Ordered the Keeley Super Phat Mod Overdrive from Sweetwater today. These Kelley pedals are made in the USA and they are worth any price bump you feel you might be paying.

By Chuck W. from Kentucky
Music Background: Weekend warrior.

I've always shoed away from compression pedals, because I did not really understand them or rather what they could do for my sound. Luckily, I have a friend who is a master of tone and a wonderful teacher! After a couple of hours at his house checking the paddle out, he let me take his home for a few days. Needless to say, I found this pedal to be an invaluable part of my sound. It has enabled me to get that little extra bit of sustain and boost that I need. Especially given today's lower volume environments.

From Noisy to Silent

By John from Florida

Like some other users of the Keeley comp, I experienced very audible noise when the pedal was on. And sometimes it was a soft, high frequency warbling sound, like a siren. Totally unacceptable. I first thought I had a defective pedal. I was powering it with a dedicated power supply, and so assumed the noise was coming from other pedals or the Compressor itself. But I decided to start isolating it from my other effects in order to see if it indeed was amplifying noise from another source. I eventually had it disconnected from every patch - just guitar to Keeley to amp - but still no improvement. So I swapped guitar cords, and some of the background noise was eliminated, but not all of it, and not any of the warbling sound. As a last resort, I disconnected the dedicated power supply, and connected it to the daisy-chained power supply powering my noise gate pedal, reverb pedal and two gain pedals...and it went totally silent! I connected everything back to normal routing, and the silence remained. I then used the "noisy" dedicated power supply on a JHS Mini A/B switching pedal, but nothing else. And all was quiet. I have no noise at all from the Keeley unless my amp is cranked. So it was the dedicated power supply that was causing the noise in the Compressor. Hope this helps others who might be trying to solve similar noise issues.

Exactly what I was looking for!

By Jesse S.

For the last six months, I have been looking for a compressor that isn't just a 'utility' pedal, but something that I can also use to add some fat, thumping compression tones to my mix. I've been disappointed by noisy and dull compressor pedals in the past, but decided to take a chance on this after reading all the positive reviews... and I was not let down! It does everything from subtly evening out your dynamics, to in-your-face squash. After using it for about a month, I can confidently say that Comp Plus will give you almost any style of compression you could want by quickly tweaking one or more of the four knobs. The pickup-style toggle is also a very welcome addition. I mainly play with humbuckers, and with my other compressors, that means that playing the guitar I want to play often forces me to make some tonal compromises. The pickup toggle, along with the great tone control, eliminates that problem. And, like all Keeley pedals, this is a high-quality build and looks great on my board.

If you're looking for a compressor that does it all, this is it. Highly recommended.

Also, shoutout to Sweetwater and my sales engineer, Bryan Campbell. Every company has their customer service mottos, but Sweetwater is the only place I know of where the service actually matches the company's own description of it. For someone like me that only has a couple of bare-bones music equipment stores nearby, it's great to have a place that has everything, and knowledgeable people to help me sift through it all. Bryan has worked with me on the several gear purchases I've made since discovering Sweetwater, and has made it feel less like ordering from a computer, and more like going to a local shop. Can't recommend these guys enough.

The Not-So-Secret Ingredient

By Bill B. from Emporia, Ks
Music Background: Longtime amateur player and current worship musician

I've never really used compression in my signal chain aside from the built-in compressor on my multi effects pedal. When I decided to build a pedal board I did the research and learned that compression can make a big difference in tone. I wanted my playing to not be buried in the mix, but to cut through when appropriate, so I started shopping. The Keeley unit had the control versatility I wanted and the reviews were positive, so I ordered it. Immediately I was amazed at the difference in response to my pick attack and the way my chording sounds. I'm using it as the first device in my signal chain and it is always on. I'm still learning the controls and there's lots more to uncover. I consider it an essential tool now.

It’s the FEEL...

By Stuart M. from Elizabethtown, KY

First review here, for the first pedal that has stayed on my board consistently. Not that this compressor needs any further hype, but if helps the next buyer, I'll tell you the real selling point. Other builders make great compressors; Xotic, MXR, Pigtronix, etc. But the reason none of those replace the Keeley for me is the FEEL it adds, more so than the tone. Once you turn it on, you'll never turn it off. Do yourself a favor, and add this well-known secret weapon to your rig.

Music Background: Long time guitarist, getting back into a band situation for the first time in about 15 years.

Recently began rehearsing with a band after a long hiatus playing electric guitar. The blend knob is a great feature, and allows your guitar to still be heard in the mix. I play an Epi Les Paul Classic. I just use the humbucker setting tecommended in the brochure, which is everything pretty much at 12:00. It is always on. I love the uncolored sustain when using my neck pickup playing clean. Great for slide playing. Thanks to my sales engineer Mitch Dazey for the recommendation.

Didn't know what I was missing...

By Tunesmith from Roanoke, VA
Music Background: Singer/songwriter, part time weekend warrior

When you spend money on new gear you want to like it. In this case I do. This is my first experience with a compressor and the improvement in the sound is very noticeable. I run my Gretsch 5420t and Godin Multiuke through it into a Fender SuperChamp x2 and the sound is more even and musical. My acoustics also sound better through the Keeley into my Fishman Loudbox 100. I keep it set to be always on and it sounds even with a pick or fingerstyle. Now I'm a believer in compressors. The Keeley delivers as promised + made in the USA = 5 Stars.

Keeley plus 4 knob.

I really don't feel like this thing is worth 130$. I've used rack compressors and plugins for years and usually easily get the sound I want with those. Not so much with this. Guitar sounds better without it.

Keeley comp plus

By Sweetwater Customer

I only used this with humbuckers and wasn't completely satisfied. I had to keep the sustain and blend knobs fairly low or the attack sounded awful - the sound of the picking is amplified. The whole thing just sounded kind of weird and too unnatural. Quacky almost. Maybe it is better on single coils?

Sweet. Quiet, and I love the Blend option. A another great piece from Keeley. The LED is a bit bright but that seems to be the norm with pedals these days. Not a big deal at all tho.

Highly Reccomend

By MJS from Lake Stevens, WA
Music Background: Casual multi-instrumentalist in church worship band.

Really adds great tonal options to my acoustic and semi-hollow. Still exploring all it can do. I hesitated on buying a compressor for a long time- thought it was kind of "meh" Glad I picked this Keeley up. I love the versatility of it and what it brings to the table. A five star rating from me means it met my needs and surpassed my expectations. This pedal is also a phenomenal value.

Overdrive for your clean sound.

By Sweetwater Customer from Kentucky
Music Background: Amateur.

This is my first compressor. Took me a few hours to figure out how it sounds best. A little goes a long way. Sounds fantastic into my Fender GTX-100 on mostly clean (Fender) amp models. Twin, Super Reverb... Works well with overdrive pedals. Most of the time I put the comp after any dirt pedal, set to about the Always On settings. Sustain 1/4, Blend 1/2- 3/4, with Level and Tone about noon. Quieter after the overdrive also. Great pedal, killer bluesy fat tone!!!

Subtle and Sublime Keeley Quality

By Croz'
Music Background: Been playing for 40+ years, regular open mic/jam sessions out here...

Thanks to Ashton Boyd at Sweetwater, the Keeley Compressor was one of several items that made it quickly to a friend to 'mule' down some gear to Costa Rica for me, thanks Ashton!

Now... the pedal... I swapped it out for one that I have been using for years but a recent acquisition of a Gretsch loaded with Broad'Tron 'buckers and I needed a different kind of compression. So first-off the 'single-coil/Humbucker' switch immediately 'cleaned-up' what felt and sounded like a 'thump' from the Gretsch; it's clearer, brighter (or darker) with the tone dial and overall the quality is studio/rack-mounted.

This is a great compressor from Robert Keeley. My Jeff Beck Artist Strat' through a MkI Egnater Rebel 30 has always sounded sweet, warm, dark and with just enough spank to get in to Tele-territory... and the RK compressor does the job very well!

Great pedal! Exceeded expectations and didn't even have the slightest bit of buyers remorse. This pedal makes my strat feel fatter with more of a bite and notable sustain. Haven't tried with humbuckers yet but the toggle switch is a great option to have. works great with other pedals, and really pushes Overdrive/Distortion/fuzz. Definitely an always on pedal for me. Would highly recommend this great looking and well built Comp box by Keeley!

WOW...L-U-V

By VonBach from Springdale, AR
Music Background: Mostly pastels and landscapes

Ok, so maybe I fall in love a little too easily...
I've stayed away from compressors because, well...because they're COMPRESSORS.
This Keeley pedal is NOT just a Compressor...it's FREAKIN' AMAZING.
The knobs actually do something, and require very small tweaks to dial this baby in.
I'm into the smooth, neck pickup, rosewood fingerboard, humbucker sounds. I must say that almost all the video demos I watched (and I watched a LOT) had single coil axes with maple fingerboards playing bridge pickup, very trebly tones. So I could really only guess at how it would handle my neck humbuckers. In a word, STELLAR. Shoot...it's GREAT...Get one before they're all gone. Sweetwater always treats you RIGHT so buy it here...NOW...or later...whatever. Shout out to Charles for taking care of me!

Huge Sound

By Jerry R. from Yuma
Music Background: Graduate of Musicians Institute. Session Artist

I finally bought this compressor after hearing news about it for a few years and within the first 20 minutes after plugging it in i was just happy and really enjoying the sounds from my Strat and Tele for the first time in ages. The sound was easy to cleanup and my ultra bright rather tinny Fender treble like sound had some meat and mid biteto it instantly. The clouds parted and the sun came out and I was in love with the sound of my guitar again. So powerful and easy to use. Nice tool for cleaning up messy sound.

I was using an "optimized for squash" well known classic pedal. I don't denigrate what that other one does, it's just not for me. This pedal on the other hand is a beautiful thing. The blend control and tone make this an obvious "always on" pedal. I also am normally a single coil player, but I have one PRS with buckers and this is is a real treat to have that as well.

The first compressor pedal I have ever liked

By Richard

I have tried to incorporate compressors into my rig for years, most of which were hyped up boutique comps. I never vibes with them, thought they sounded too squashed, too spanky, etc. The Keeley is the first one that I have fallen in love with, and it’s now always on when I’m playing. They could easily charge twice the price and be able to justify it. I think I like it particularly because it reminds me of studio grade rack mounted compressors that I’ve used whole recording - feels right at home.

Great Sustain

By Rickey M. from Illinois

I always read reviews and watch demo video"s on almost everything I"m wanting. When I was looking for a compressor that had more control of my sound I seen this Keeley compressor. I really like everything on it. The single coil/Humbucker switch, the tone control is ok. It"s not a major difference from low to high. The Sustain and Blend control knobs are very nice. Much more control than my other Compressor. Sweetwater has always shipped fast and my Sales Engineer Jeff Bohan always calls to make sure everything is what I expected. Sweetwater is the best place to get top quality musical products and great service.

Awful pedal. Makes a constant phaser type noise through the cleanest and quitest of settings. Gets worse the higher you turn any knob. My rig has very little noise even with high gain overdrive. But this pedal even with the cleanest of sounds is unbearable.

Super Smooth Comp

By Nick from Los Angeles
Music Background: Composer/Songwriter

I've got two other compressors. Where this one shines is: It can be more transparent than any stomp pedal I've heard. The recovery of the comp is super smooth - like a rack mounted comp. The blend and tone knobs are a BIG plus. It can also get fully squashed if needed. Minus 0.5 stars for the Single / Humbucker switch. I'd rather have adjustable attack/release time (never liked when companies make choices for me... yes, you too Apple).

By Richard H. from Wisconsin
Music Background: Professional player since the Jurassic Era

I have owned and/or demoed so many compressor/sustainers over the years I actually gave up. Just started (another) new band and of course got the jones for new gear. Nobody could advise me on the right unit but I tried the Keeley after yet another failed trial of a Boss CS I"ve been trying in every iteration since they came out a couple decades ago. The Keeley just completely buries the others. No comparison. Does what I always hoped a C/S would do without compromising tone. A pleasure to add to my pedal board.

Great compressor

By Sweetwater Customer
Music Background: Singer/Songwriter, old pro guitar picker!!!

I have used many different compressors over the 40 years I"ve been playing guitar but this compressor nails the sound I"m after. I"m primarily a Outlaw country, Southern RoCk, Blues guy and this compressor is so very easy to dial in. It"s ridiculously easy to get the sound I want and the humbucker/single coil selector is genious. I play with my finger nails instead of a pick and the Keeley gives me a nice even volume across all the strings and that snap and pop that I was after. Clean, clear, and nice spank when you want it. I used a boss cs2 for years until it finally gave up the ghost. This one is even better than the old cs2 that I dearly loved. Thanks Sweetwater for always taking care of issues quickly and without hassle and by the way, Bob Mondok is the best sales guy I have ever worked with and he is one the biggest reasons I keep coming back to Sweetwater.

Wish I had this 35 years ago!

By Riffhanger from NYC Area
Music Background: Hard Rock

Been playing in hard rock bands for 35 years. Never had a compressor. Had no idea what I was missing out on until three days ago when this thing arrived on my doorstep. I tend to use pedals very sparingly. I like to get the sound from my guitar and amp perfect before I add an OD or boost to do leads. All about preserving my tone... keeping it simple. This thing, however, really puts a sparkle/sizzle on your sound. It excites/sustains and smoothes, while simultaneously making your articulation cut through. You have to be very careful not to get carried away with it. But yeah... like an Emeril dish that's almost ready and then BAM! Throw that dash of ghost pepper on top and you're like YOWZA!!!!

More than I expected!

By Will

I"m not a big pedal user, I don"t have a huge board, and I"m not all that knowledgeable about effects. I usually use 1-3 pedals when I"m playing out. I"ve had an old Digitech Main Squeeze compressor for years, and used it mainly for a slight boost and the sustain. I wanted something better, as the one I had was kinda noisy and didn"t make a huge difference in tone no matter how it was set.
The Keeley is amazing! It fattens my tone with single coils, adds that little boost and sustain that I was accustomed to, and it does it all so much smoother than and quieter than before! I haven"t played with it a whole lot yet, but it"s gonna be used as an always on pedal along with a Tube Screamer. They make my "normal" tone fat, full, and cutting right through the mix just perfect. Hitting another overdrive or Distortion puts it right over the top for solos or some extra crunchy rhythm. The Keeley is the one piece that"s been missing from my set up!

Wonderful sound, transparent

By Peter P. from Washington
Music Background: Guitar, keyboards, drums

The sound of this compressor is head and shoulders above any other compressor pedals I've ever owned. I play a Telecaster with an 808 Tube Screamer to a Deluxe Reverb and this compression pedal makes everything sing.

It's very subtle and transparent, even when you dime out the Sustain and Blend controls. It doesn't add noise at all. It just enhances and balances your original tone.

The only reason I didn't give it a full 5 stars is because it's difficult to install or replace the battery. You need a good phillips head screwdriver and about 10 minutes. In a live situation that's problematic. Once everything is in place the pedal is bullet-proof.

All of that said, the sound is supreme, the intelligent circuitry is supreme. Definitely a must-buy.

Great compressor

By Sweetwater Customer

Great compressor. I got this pedal after being unhappy with my TC Hyper Gravity which I found to be excessively noisy and very digital and artificial sounding. This Keeley is much quieter in comparison (of course all compressors raise the noise floor a little bit) and really organic sounding with a nice chewy feel. It can be set from fairly transparent all the way up to working like a boost depending on what your after. Aaron was super awesome as usual and got me this shipped out quickly.

Noise Floor Elevated

By StratDaddy from NOVA
Music Background: 54 years a student of fretboards

I used a Barber Tone Press for years. But in the past few months went on a rampage eliminating anything that raised the noise floor above the hum of fresh tubes in a Falcon and Sportsman amp. The press went out, and I recently acquired the Keeley Comp Plus. I had it for one day and sent it back. The processing of the tone was fabulous, clean and punchy. But even with the knobs turned down and bypass engaged, the noise floor was elevated. Pull the Compressor out of the chain, and the floor returned to normal. Once I heard it, and knew where it was coming from, I couldn't live with it. Shame, because I really did like what it did to the pickups on my Strat. But any quiet passages were overly populated by white noise. And just in case you wonder about the power source. It's a 4X4 Voodoo Labs unit. All my efx are powered by 1 of 4 Voodoo Labs units. So, it isn't the power source, it's the Keeley Compressor. I got all scientific in it's hiney, but could not get rid of that underlying sssssssssssssssss.

Essential Guitar Signal

By Jackie P. from North Carolina
Music Background: Drums, Keys, Synth, Guitars and Engineering

As a studio owner and Engineer/Artist, I am one of the people who depend on a product that takes care of what I need it to without stressing over every issue that can and usually does arise in recording sessions. There are plenty of musicians who have superior understanding to my own when dealing with guitars but the least I can do is give my thumbs up on products and sales rep's that make my life and work easier. The Keeley Compressor Plus fits my pedal configuration just fine and the staff at Sweetwater is always accommodating to make purchases painless. A device like this is not always needed but when it is it inspires me in the process of recording so that I don't hear some annoying sound that I have to gate out. It saves me time, adds some texture to multiple guitar layers that are quite pleasant. Im sure there are thousands that could be spent to achieve a particular result but I've found some very reasonable purchases for guitar signal through some affordable pedals. Its always nice to get a recommendation from your sales engineer at Sweetwater as well. It's the heart and soul of our music that makes it worthwhile. Thanks to Keeley and to Sweetwater for being there and providing good quality equipment.

Excelente compreso

By Arnaldo T.
Music Background: Yaweh Love (Petra)

Keeley Compressor Plus

By Buddy E. from Texas
Music Background: Life-Long Musician

Pedals and effects will always remain subjective. I have been using Keeley products for over 18 years, and one thing that remains constant with Keeley products is their tonal standard of excellence. I use pedals much like salt and pepper, I"m never trying to mask the raw excellence of a quality guitar with a quality amplifier. A pedal has to be "Qualified" to be a permanent fixture on my pedal board, and this compressor not only meets the mark, it exceeds that mark. The tone knob allows me to match my original tone to the compressor, and this is HUGE. The level knob allows me to match the baseline volume to the pedal so on or off there is no difference in volume. For me, the Sustain is at 11:00, and the blend is about 25%. This pedal gives me the magic that only a quality compressor can deliver, while maintaining that punch and attack I like to deliver when required. With these settings I find the compressor very transparent and extremely musical with a sweet and natural sustain.

My Main Squeeze

By Ammo from Mississippi

I tried several compressor pedals and viewed numerous videos before I pulled the trigger on this one. This is a well engineered device with great features and outstanding tone which distinguishes it from the rest.
1. It's transparent and quiet.
2. Single coil / Humbucker switch allows for tailoring sound.
3. Blend control is essential on a compressor enables capturing a good balance of pick dynamics and
compression / sustain.
4. Tone control allows for added high frequencies back in.
5. Sustain control is smooth, wide ranging and maintains harmonics.
6. Varying the Level, Blend and Sustain controls can deliver many options.
7. It sounds musical

Incredible compressor.

By Jim M. from Philly, Pa.
Music Background: electric, acoustic guitarist

I remember when Keeley's original 2 and 4 knob compressor pedals came out, I was really blown away by the sound, tone and hi quality compression that you got out of them. You could read pages of great reviews about them. I am a country player, so compressors are my favorite pedal.
Now to this beauty, I love the single coil or humbucker switch. Compressors have a natural love for single coil pickups, humbuckers have a stronger, richer sound to them, this switch really makes a difference, there were things you could do before, but not like this switch. The blend knob is a nice feature, it doesn't go all of the way to a pure boost , when you turn it, still has a small bit of compression turned to boost side. In my opinion, it is a compressor that I would be happy with, not saying that I still don't like the originals...

Studio Grade Perfomance With Just 4 Knobs

By Ken O. from Austin,Texas

Another 5-Star review for this pedal, I hope I can add my 2-cents w/o being redundant. My main stage amp is a Katana head and it has all the pedals needed to attain my sounds inside the BOSS software but I also have 3 choice tube heads for studio work that I run a pedal board in front of. It became obvious I was missing subtle compression in a few instances but I was hesitant to add a compressor pedal; compression and EQ adjustments are one of the few things I am happy with doing the "fix it in the mix" thing. I use a Hendrix Wah and a Keeley Monterey in mono mode into a Keeley Mod Workstation with stereo outs into two tubeheads and a stereo cab with 12" Celestions. Keeley has proven their mojo to me time and time again so I borrowed one to check out before buying one. I also borrowed a TC tone-print Compressor pedal and I must admit that is one awesome pedal;the multi-band options are stellar. It was a hard choice to make but in the end I opted to keep it simple, go with the Keeley Plus 4-Knob. I couldn't be more pleased, the Keeley does exactly what I need-SUBTLE but the toggle switch for single coil and humbucker does the trick when I need slight variance in dynamics. The more I use it, the more I love it. I get why the Keeley compressor put the brand on the map, this gives me studio grade performance at a ridiculously low price! I even saved more with a demo unit. You can pay more , a lot more actually, before you get a better compressor pedal but if I need that kind of control, I have software that does it all but I already own it, no need for spending more on a pedal in my case. BUT, the main thing that sends this pedal into the perfect zone for me is that TONE knob. Wow, so nice to be able to deal with loss of highs common to the end of a pedal run with a hands-on,instant tactile knob control. Final analysis: A true 5-star pedal from Keeley that gives my tube amp set up the final tweak. My only complaint is with myself...I should have bought this sooner. Also, I must give a shout-out to the awesome crew at Sweetwater, those cats are the best in the business. Thank you, Bob Mondok-

Compressor Plus a definite PLUS

By Chet from Western NY

The Keeley Compressor Plus is a definite PLUS to my sound. I borrowed a Boss compressor from a buddy many years ago, but after giving it a try for a few weeks, I just didn"t love it and decided I was better off without it. But as most guitarists are ever searching for the ultimate tone, I eventually decided to give the Keeley Plus a try after reading so many positive reviews. And I couldn"t be happier that I did.
First: the noise - or lack thereof. No noise. If your guitar is quiet and the compressor is first in the chain, this pedal will be absolutely quiet when you switch it on -even when the sustain and blend are maxed clockwise.
Second: the single/humbucker switch. No, the attack is not infinitely adjustable, but it"s pretty much INSTANTLY adjustable to what are very acceptable (and probably optimum) settings.
Last: the sound. You can go from "is it even on?" to "I can hold this note longer than Carlos Santana", and it"s all good, all musical. Even the "pump"when maxed is not annoying. And the "is it on?" setting is so sweet that you hardly notice it until you switch it off. Then you realize just how great it sounded when ON, and just how natural it sounded. It"s the effect pedal that doesn"t sound like an effect. Brilliant!

Loving it

By Sweetwater Customer

Just got this pedal. It was between this and the Wampler Ego. Could have gone either way. I'm sure I would have liked the Wampler too. I have this at basically the "always on" setting recommended in the owners manual. The pedal just adds great warmth, sustain and pick dynamics. I always thought I had nice sounds coming out of my Jeff Beck Strat. Usually run it pretty clean with a little reverb and fairly clean boost settings on my Soul Food overdrive pedal. Adding the Keeley before the Soul Food sounds great. Also stacks very well with my Fulltone OCD. This will be an always on pedal.

Too much treble, almost entire range of blend knob between 0 and 4

By Chester M. from KY
Music Background: surf, jam band

Just not that impressed. It 's too late now, but I wish I had returned mine. Too much treble- the tone knob is turned down all the way, and it still seems to boost the highs a lot. There is still bass, but just too much high. I thought it was my jazzmaster pickups, but I tried different guitars with no other pedals, and it still does it. Also most of the range of the blend control is in the first 40% of knob movement. I guess I could get used to it, but it seems for a company known for it's compressors this shouldn't be an issue. Maybe it's defective. I want to like the pedal, but I'm going to try others eventually.

Upgrade to original 4 knob

By JustinB from MN

I have liked and used a Keeley original 4 knob for the past decade. I liked it, but always felt like it could be improved. I never liked dinking with attack and clipping knobs especially between guitar changes. I also had wished I had the blend knob as soon as I discovered other compressors with that function. I had always loved the sustain and level on it. It seems Keeley addressed these exact issues. This Plus model is something I love and will remain on my board forever. I love the new toggle for switching between single coil and humbuckers. Confirmed on both types it is where I would have set those old clipping and attack knobs, but can now do it in a dark room with the flip of a switch. With the blend knob, I can get such a subtle compression that can even maintain dynamics. Added cherry on top is the tone knob. I was playing through a humbucker that seemed slightly dark. I didnt even have to bother with EQ on the amp, but was able to turn up tone knob and get some nice highs coming through to brighten it up. This is such a fun box and a well thought out compressor. Price is great too for such perfect improvements. Thanks again to Evan at Sweetwater! Ordered On a Wednesday and was jamming with it that Friday! Always the best service at Sweetwater!

A Compressor for Compressor Haters

By Jonathan D. from Saint Paul, MN

Bottom Line: I don't like compressors...but I like this one

I have tried to use and like compressors about 5 times in my guitar playing life. Every time, I give it about 6 months and then sell it off thinking that something is wrong with me.

I love this compressor. It is different for a few reasons.
1) The single coil / HB switch is AWESOME - it deal with release time and enables you to make a more suitable choice for your sound. I use the HB setting for everything.
2) The Blend knob is my personal friend. I DON"T like to lose the dynamics of my playing. This knob enables me to pull the compressor back a bit to find a good balance between dynamics and balance (compression/sustain).
3) The tone knob helps me to get back that little something that is lost in the compressing process. and I leave mine up pretty far..
4) Finally, there are times when I use this pedal to help boost the level (I use this with my mandolin too) and introduce just a little tad of sustain.

Now, I can rest. Nothing is wrong with me. I like the Keeley Comp+

Nice Compressor

I really like this compressor for single coil guitars. For my humbucker guitars I prefer other compressors.

Keeley four knob compressor

By Dave from Pa
Music Background: 30yrs

It"s been a few days. My observations so far are at the always on setting it"s difficult to tell it"s on. I can notice a slightly more even attack, haven"t used it at gig volumes yet. What I do like is turning the blend to 1oclock and the sustain to 2oclock, putting in front of a Keeley modded tube screamer and having at it! With my bad cat hot cat 15r and Reverend slingshot custom with P90"s I get a seriously righteous overdrive with tons of sustain and feedback without sounding overly squished like a cs3 or Dyna comp. I"ve never bonded with compresses however this one is different. It goes from subtle to squishy and all points in between. A+

Keeley Compressor Plus

By Mark from Illinois

I never cared for compressors, couldn't get a handle on them.... until now! This is a fantastic pedal, very easy to dial in for great tones with it. Does not sound as "artificial" as some others when dialed in.

good pedal

By John from Battle Creek, Michigan
Music Background: hobby

I have never used any effects, except reverb on my amp. I read reviews about this compressor, so I bought it. The pedal has a switch for single coils and humbuckers. The pedal made me a believer. I hate single coils, and I own a Fender Strat with single coils. I was hoping that this pedal would make the single coils sound like humbuckers, it doesn't. The pedal is good, so I will be selling the Strat. I have been playing since 1964 and I have hated single coils.

What I was looking for

By Tom from Medford OR

I've purchased a number of pedals this past year looking for something I just couldn't get consistently. Finally someone mentioned a compressor - I did some homework and Keeley kept popping up. So what's so cool? It makes the clean chords ring - the dirty chords are chunky - and the lead/distortion tones just sing - makes single coil P/U's ring just a little longer longer as that's been my problem - the notes/chords would fall off too quick. The controls are straight forward - how much do you want to hear the compression (sustain) - the amount of the effect (level) - blend the effect and input level - and the tone is how bright you want the fall off to be. There's an old saying "If you can hear the compression yer using too much" - very true. Every guitar player should have one.

Best compressor

By Rane from Florida

This is, by far, the best compressor I"ve ever played through. This compact, durable pedal provides amazingly smooth, thick compression that can be as transparent or obvious as you like. This thing is as quality as it gets. Do yourself a favor and get one!

Keeley compressor plus.

By Ron R. from Lowell In.

The Keeley compressor is excellant, I don't use a lot of pedals but this was the one I was lacking. As always called my sales representative Rob Kramer talked to him about the pedal and had it in 2 days. Very versatile pedal.

Great addition!

By George from Athens, GA

I play electric guitar in a church worship band. The pedal was easy to set up right out of the box and it is very lightweight! Gave me a lot of sustain and a more balanced sound all around. Very pleased with this item.

Tone king

By Kevin L. from Elk Grove, CA

I originally ordered tc electronics gravity and all tho it was good i could not help to notice how digital it sounded. It did not play nice with fuzz and the controls when changing the settings had a latency .
I saw thie keeley compresser pedal for the same price and did not think twice as o have other keeley pedals including the darkside and love everything they make.

This pedal is very transparent and will not kill your tone. I actually use it as a booster pedal and can get some killer tone that was not achievable on my blues jr amp. Sustain is not over dramatic but cuts through with rhythm. And fuzz and od blend very nicely. This pedal is now a part of my setup and I will not leave home with out it. If I had to choose between 2 pedals it would be this pedal first and my strymon blue sky. And I am set.

Thank you Robert keeley for producing quality products.

Excellent pedal

By mesaman11 from CO
Music Background: Pro guitarist for 50 years.

This compressor is the best I've ever had, and in 50 years of playing I've used a lot. What impresses me about the Keely is its capacity for nuance. The blend function is incredible - it allows you to tweak your sustain in minute intervals. You want just a little compression? No problem. You need your guitar to sustain for a long time? Also no problem. And it is made in the USA at reasonable price too.

Keeley Compressor Plus

By Roger B. from Madison, WIsconsin
Music Background: Semi-pro guitarist

I have always used a compressor at the front of my rig. I recently made the change from my Boss CS-3 to the Keeley Plus unit. As with all Keeley products the Plus is a very well made and good sounding compressor. Great features that put it over the top are the additional Blend and Single coil/Humbucker selectors that allow the differing properties of each pickup type to be optimized. This is great compressor at a nice price. Thanks to Robert Keeley and staff.

Keeley Compressor

By Brock B. from Michigan
Music Background: Guitar (Worship, Bluegrass, Blues, Rock, Country)

The Keeley Compressor is a fantastic addition to any rig. This pedal provides a surprising amount of tone control for any needs of an electric guitarist.

This compressor provides excellent tone control, and is quite versatile for any situation. The sustain provides an excellent and smooth sound when holding a chord or note. The blend is excellent for dialing in pick attack to exactly what is needed for any sound. The tone really brings out the true tone of the guitar and pushes it into the spotlight. The level works great as an equalizer, and excellent as a clean channel booster. The "Single Coil/Humbucker" switch is an excellent feature, and truly makes the compressor feel tailored to the guitar.

The Keeley Compressor is a fantastic tool to complete any sound, it is the pedal equivalent of the ultimate "secret weapon".

Extremely Versatile Compressor

By Omar S.

This is an extremely versatile pedal, you can get a wide range of tones from it, actually i got this pedal to replace my mxr dynacomp which was a one trick pony,it sounded great but colored the sound too much ( loss of high frequency) , with this keeley compressor i can get the dynacomp sound and much more. The level knob set at 3 o clock (unity is about 12-1) can actually push a tube amp into overdrive quite easily. The Blend knob is very handy, it goes from 50% to full compression, set at minimum you can actually hear the pick attack and your clean signal quite well. The tone knob has a very wide range, it can alter your sound from very dark to extremely bright. The toggle switch (attack) from single coil to humbucker can work either way, i've tried humbucker mode with single coils and vice versa and could always dial a sound i wanted.
Overall this a great sounding pedal and a huge upgrade from my old dynacomp not only in sound but in versatility which is the best thing about this pedal.

Thank you Sweetwater and Justin Englert for the amazing customer service you provided, definitely will be ordering from sweetwater again.

The "miracle" pedal

By Paul from van dwn by the river

Thing about a compressor pedal is knowing how to use one and knowing what it does and why.
One might be tempted to presume this must be a more budget lvl cheaper comp pedal Keeley has done. Well, nothing could really be further from what this actually is.
RK has taken his amazing best of the best 4 knob circuit comp pedal costing almost double, and instead of just offering that very cool pedal at a lower price he has up the circuit mod up'ed the bar on all compressor quality. He has added some sort of expander circuit into the back end which adds to the sustain quality plus this very cool switch which changes the release and attack params for single coil and humbuckler pickups. Not least is the VIP "blend"control which gives you a versatility of use that just makes this puppy the best of the best of the best!
Now what you should know about using a compressor is less is more, do not dime it out despite there might be a use for that in some styles of music.
Artful tweak of the tone, blend, lvl and sustain can deliver a surprising array of tones that will just blow you away.
What does it do, well..., it compresses or holds down high transient peak signals and brings up the slight nuance elements of your playing, the sensitivity or hearing and sustaining the notes, just has to be heard to believe how much thicker and fuller your tone gets.
Beautiful chords that just ring, go up on the lvl a little and you will hear the most delicious overdrive push on your amp that you ever imagined. Thick massive sustain tone, harmonic response off the scale cool!
Now compression is most notable on cleaner signals as distorted gains are already doing their own compressive effect. So do not over do it on higher gains.
You let this puppy drive the front end of your amp when it is just below breakup and man the sound will blow your mind.
There are three pedals that cost around $100 that are incredible mind altering tonal miracles for your guitar. #1 this Keeley Compressor Plus (front), #2 the Xiotic EP booster (end) and #3 a BBE sonic maximizer (loop), when used correctly these things will alter your universe, Despite whatever OD, gain, mod, delay, rev, you might use or like these foundation pedals just lift your sound and tonal spectrum beyond what you could imagine pedals could do.
I used to hate the oid style comp pedals and rejected them for ages as just screwing up your tone and dynamic feel, country players love them but I am not a country player. A few yrs back I got into a Wampler comp and man it opened my eyes to what a really nice controllable comp could do. I loved that pedal then along comes Robert Keeley Engineering, seriously this cat does for the compressor what strings do for the guitar! Amazing. Plug one in and see if you ever let it go! We owe this man statues for offering this amazing improved pedal at less that half what it is worth! Thank you RK some of us get it!

Amazed

By Sweetwater Customer
Music Background: Blues and country

I have always been a fan of compression pedals and all I can say is wow!! My only regret is that I should of purchased it sooner. It’s the first pedal in my chain after my tuner followed by a keeley modded ts9 then into a wampler clarksdale. It makes distortion pedals sound much better and I love the blend knob. I always get compliments on the tone when I’m using the keeley and the wampler together. It’s kind of a magical sound. I use an American tele and American strat through a fender hot rod deville.

Big changes in sound!

Keeley delivers! My sound doubles when I turn on the Keeley 4 knob compressor. It will be the pedal I never turn off. Also, the sustain is a great feature. Soloing will never be the same....wait: yes, I still hear my guitar sustaining!

Keeley Compressor Plus

By Jim S. from coastal North Carolina
Music Background: playing music since 1964, folk, rock, blues, church traditional and contemporary

Thee pedal came with a suggestion card describing basic settings for different genres of music. After using those initial settings and watching the video again, I went looking for my own settings. A wide range of tone was available for my '99 Strat with EMG Gold pups with the tone dial. A slight boost was the norm as I worked settings on all 4 pots. The sustain does generate a little noise when the pedal is off but it is easy to remove. The blend pot gives me just the right sound I desire. The level pot is a smooth sweeping style, that is it does not come on like a lion. I switched over to my 14 SG, flipped the selector switch to humbucker and tore it up. NICE! All in all a very good investment for the money regardless of your instrument. Easy to understand, easy to use. Find your own sound in the Keeley Compressor Plus 4 knob pedal. Well done Keeley!... I'll be looking at more of the pedals you offer.

It's what I expected...just what I needed

By Firebrand from Midwest Michigan
Music Background: Semi-retired Pro

I'll be honest. Everyone I know owns an older model Keeley Comp. They all raved about it so much that it made me believe they were more fanboy than pedal savvy. So I tried and owned everything else in this price range.

Then it happened, I needed a certain chorus sound (I'll get to te comp in a moment), and tried a variety of price points and brands. Then I sat down with the SeaFoam+. Wow. Maybe all these Keeley lovers were onto something.

Now I already had a custom comp from a small batch builder who tweaked his design to my wants and love it. So I didn't really need to get Keeley's. Fast forward 3 months and I found myself assembling a second, smaller pedal rig. The small batch builder stopped production and even though used editions of his base models were out there I knew they would not be the same. So I waited and read about more comps. Then I received the email showing Keeley had this in their "plus" line. The price was also lower than previous editions so I said to myself "why not try it".

I tried it.

wOw!

This is THE classic compressor squash I wanted for rig 2. Having a blend control is of utmost importance. And the added noise floor is acceptable (the higher you turn up the level the more hiss you hear which is normal with any comp pedal I've used regardless price.

Keeley Compressor Plus

By Pablo L. from Virginia

Keeley has done it yet again! This comp is an upgrade from my JHS Pulp n Peel V4 (and I love JHS)! Truly, sustain for days that really keeps your natural tone in tact. As with all modern comps, the blend knob is crucial and Keeley's doesn't disappoint. This is an always on compressor and I have no regrets with this purchase.

Compressor Plus

By Garrett from Dallas
Music Background: Rock, Singer-Songwriter, Country, Worship

Using this for 4 weeks now - Love it

Really great re-design of the 2 & 4 knob comp that Keeley has sold for years. I've used his 2 knob comp for 8 years and always loved it, but knew there were some features that it could benefit from. Keeley has addressed those concerns with this pedal. Having the switch to go from single coil to humbucker (it changes the attack and release accordingly) is tremendously helpful live. The tone knob adds just enough treble back in for my dark guitars, and the blend has been great for keeping my right hand attack intact. If you run the tone neutral and the blend at "full" you have the famous ross compressor.

I LOVE THIS PEDAL. It is exactly what I need/want. I will use it for another 8 years or more. I'm sure of it.

Must have compressor!

By Kristen from Michigan

Amazing compressor! I have the 2-knob Keeley compressor which was my favorite compressor. The sound is incredible so I wasn't sure I wanted something else but since it was Keeley I went for it. It's just fantastic. Having that tone and blend makes it easy to get the sound you want and makes it a joy to have on the pedal board. And the price just makes it that much sweeter. Keeley's can be pricey so getting this is a deal for sure. If you're looking for a compressor get this one. You won't be disappointed.

Jeff

By Jeff from NW INdiana
Music Background: 40 years, rock/blues

I never in my wildest dreams thought I would be so blown away by a compressor but Bob Keeley must be an alien form another world because this compressor is by far miles above others I've owned. I currently own a Boss CS 3, not worthy of any of my guitar boards but works for my bass just fine. A Philosopher's Tone Mini that replaced my full size Wampler Ego because I needed the space on my smaller board. Both the Wampler and the PT Mini are pretty equal to my ears, not bad but neither sounds as good as the Keeley. The PT is easy to dial in, the Wampler not so much although it sounds good once you get it dialed in until you change to a different pick up. The Keeley sounds phenomenal, clean or dirty, humbucker or single coil. From what I've owned and others I've tried, the Keeley Compressor Plus is by far the best!

Best Compressor Ever

By Jeff from NW Indiana
Music Background: Rock, blues

I own 4 compressors, Boss CA 3, Philosopher's Tone Mini, Wampler Ego (full size) and this Keeley. It is without a doubt the absolute last word in compressors. Very very easy to dial in. Sustain for days regardless of guitar pick ups used. It works well with a clean amp a dirty amp and pedals. I normally would not use compression with an OD or fuzz pedal but this pedal makes ANY PEDAL that comes after it in the chain come alive. I am so satisfied. This Compressor is my always on pedal. Bob Keeley knocked this way way out of the park.
