The Best

By Henry E. from McDonough
Music Background: Mobie DJ and keyboard

My KC 500 finally gave up the ghost recently after many years of use at home and on the road.
The main amp board capacitors failed and burnt the board. The capacitors were glued down as were several resisters
for obvious reasons being these units were made for constant travel and movement. I decided to put it to rest although
the case and speaker are still in good condition, so I ditched the amp and kept the rest, I may do something with it later.
I have now retired ( 89 ) but still needed an amp for my keyboard and decided on the KC 990, yes it is a bit heavy for an old guy
but I plan on it staying in one place at home. The KC 990 blew my mind on the sound it produced, the highs and the lows
were perfect, not just from the keyboard but other units attached to the amp such as my boss music box. mic, and I pad
for recorded music. I love this unit and I am sure it will properly out live me.

Roland KC-990

By Clarence H. from Ironton, Ohio
Music Background: Piano teacher and keyboard player at Be Hope Church in Ironton, Ohio

It's the greatest sounding amp I've ever heard. Being on rollers it's easy to take to church or any place to perform. The bass is deep. The midrange is fantastic, and the highs make a keyboard sound like a grand piano. You can plug a bass, guitar, keyboard, and drum kit into it simultaneously. There's a place for a microphone for singing. My sales engineer, Logan Casper, has helped me with all my music product decisions. He's the best. Shipping is quite fast as well from Sweetwater.

This one does it for me

By Thomas G. from Lubec, ME
Music Background: Primarily an organist, then piano, accordion, melodica, some guitar. Blues and progressive Rock.

I was running two old staticky Peavey KB100 amps with my stereo Yamaha MX88. I primarily use the piano, electric piano, and organ emulations on my MX. The keyboard does well, but the amps needed to be laid to rest, so I contacted Sweetwater rep, Jeff Weinstein for a recommendation on a stereo amp. He shot back a few questions for me to answer and a day and a half later he suggested the Roland KC-990. Here's the lowdown after almost a week of sleeping with this amp.

Yes, it's heavy, but not as heavy as my previous B2 and Leslie 122. My Rhodes was also a tough lift. This amp is a two-man carry. The literature even suggests having two guys carrying this, but the 91 lbs. wasn't an issue for me. The wheels are a big help in moving this across a floor. On the bright side, you won't have to worry about someone stealing this thing.

The sound is awesome, especially the bass response. This amp thumps. It bends low which was another plus for me as I'm planning on a three-piece (keys, guitar, drums). So, now I'm thinking of bass pedals to free my left hand from that duty.

The onboard effects are good. I like the reverb and will play with the chorus and tremolo a bit more. The rotary effect isn't bad, but I'm keeping my Lester K connected as I think Lester is better.

One more thing, I ran my acoustic guitar through this and even that sounded good. If acoustic guitar was all I played I would get something else as this amp is a bit pricey, but if you play keyboard and acoustic, you may as well take full advantage of your purchase.

Here's my recommendation:
1. Contact Jeff Weinstein for your rig needs whether you're a keyboardist or guitarist.
2. By this amp for your keys
3. If you sleep with your amp as I do, get a king size bed.

Breathtaking...

By Jeremy H. from BLOOMINGTON, IN
Music Background: Keyboardist

The sheer acoustic force this machine could generate should be consider a sonic weapon. The life it brings to my analog synths are incredible. Power delivered to keyboard workstations are stellar, you won't be looking back from this one! So good... I need two!!

Heavyweight

By Robert S. from Frisco, TX

This thing is heavy. Really heavy.

I thought I would save some effort having multiple channels in and ditching the mixer, but the weight makes up for the extra gear I used to cart around.

The sound is good at loud volumes - at least enough for practices and small venues or just as a monitor.

Happy with the purchase if only because it is the first Amp I have had that I am sure will outlast me.

Makes practice a breeze

By Rob S. from Frisco, TX
Music Background: keyboards

Makes practice off-site a breeze. Can handle keys and vocals with volume to spare all in one package. Casters definitely help because it is heavy, but once in place it can be rolled around effortlessly. Plenty of mids and highs for vocals (if used as a monitor, forget about it - I never set the volume above 50%).

So good I bought TWO!

By Sweetwater Customer

Yes, really. Excellent sound and flexibility. Stereo link (not that it's mono by itself) is also very cool, on top of everything else. Thanks for another great purchase experience, Sweetwater. Always a pleasure. In a world of complicated and poorly made garbage, this is a great unit. Caution: HEAVY

Wonderful Purchase

By Sweetwater Customer

Very pleased with the Roland KC-990. Great sounds, great flexibility and great opportunities. Just got mine and will be playing the first gig next week. From the ease of operation, sound and flexibility it should be a game changer. Trust my musician skills will match the great sound system. Sweetwater was terrific throughout. Would recommend them strongly.

LMAO!!!!

By john w. from Honolulu, HI

I had to laugh! I did a lot of homework before I got this beast, and I have to admit I was really weary about getting a keyboard amp for bass, but for for me as a bassist that plays with a lot of effects, a GR55, and a Moog Minitaur controlled by my keytar, I couldn't ask for anything more, this thing bumps! I pulled it out of the box, turned it on, I didn't really expect what I heard coming from two 12 inch speakers but it was beyond belief! Wow what power! The band was like Wooooo what the hell! I mean loud and clear as a bell! Yeah it's awesome! Best buy in years for me. Great full range. Thank you Roland and Sweetwater!

They thought of everything

By JB from Indiana
Music Background: Playing organ since B-3 came out...

After abusing a pair of Roland CM-30 monitors for years, Roland impressed me with their quality When it came time to fill my new practice facility with sound, a 24'x48' meeting hall, my adviser at Sweetwater listened to my needs and gave me several options, this was his first recommendation. I have been playing organ/keyboards since 1961 when I was 7 on a Wurlitzer 4100 spinet right up through my current Tyros 5. I want no coloration, no distortion, just an exact replica of the settings I have made on whatever I am playing, That is what I have with the KC-990, throughout the sound spectrum. I am confident these could fill a much larger venue. Add the little things Roland designed in, like the Advanced Stereo link capability, and even an input that my smart phone, computer or tablet can use tells me the engineers at Roland really listened to what we need out here, beyond a capable amp. Putting it on casters, and all level controls recessed on top are some more examples of a well designed package. There is even a mute button so you can stop the sound quickly if need be. Very happy with this purchase, if you can swing it you will not be disappointed.

Excellent Amp

By J.W. from Virginia
Music Background: 30 years in various bands

I own an original KC500, and 2 KC350's. The KC 990. The KC990 is superior to running any of the previous Roland amps in stereo in my opinion. It is cleaner, louder, and I have the tweeters to be much improved over earlier Roland amps. It doesn't suffer from the boominess of the KC 500/550 series, yet it really cranks out bass response. And the inputs. The auxiliary section offer 1/4", RCA, and MP3 1/8" input. For somone like me who uses multiple hardware and IOS synths in my rig, this is a life saver, as I can comfortable run 6/7 inputs at one time. I don't use the effects section much, but it is clean. This amp also has it's on ground lift, simply a must have if your a gigging musician who may play at a nice concert venue one night, then at an old bar/resteraunt/Club with poor wiring and ground issues the next. Yes it's expensive, yes it's heavy, but since I've had it I've brought it along to all gigs, even the ones where the smaller amps and portability were more important....It's just the quality of sound is hard to want to get away from. I take my keyboard rig seriously (for reference, my go to stage monitoring was a Roland KC 350 and two QSC K10's or k8's on each side before this). IF you can afford it, I highly recommend it.
