Kala KA-SA-TE-C Solid Acacia Tenor Ukulele Reviews

Solid Acacia Tenor Ukulele with Mahogany Neck, Walnut Fingerboard, and Fishman Electronics - Natural

The KA-SA-TE-C Solid Acacia Series Tenor Ukulele is a beautifully crafted tenor ukulele made from solid acacia that delivers classic tenor uke tone. The KA-SA-TE-C’s all-acacia body is similar in appearance to koa wood, with a beautiful curling and varied grain pattern that improves tonally as it ages. A gorgeous mahogany neck and walnut fingerboard offer great response as well, whether you’re chording or playing lead. Maple binding and a Graph Tech NuBone nut and saddle also provide tonal support to the already tone-rich acacia body. This tenor uke is ideal for living room jams or warm nights on the beach around a fire with friends. And when you’re ready to plug in, this incredible uke comes with a Fishman Kula preamp that delivers stellar amplified uke tone. Ukulele enthusiasts here at Sweetwater love the KA-SA-TE-C Solid Acacia Series Tenor Ukulele for its playability and tone.

Sweet playable ukulele!

By Mike from TN on March 30, 2023 Music Background: Intermediate, all ukulele.

I'm not any expert by any means but this ukulele meets my needs in several ways. I was looking for a cutaway, Koa, open pore finish, and good looking. I love woods!
I would have liked a Koa with a cutaway, but they don't exist in my budget. Acacia is supposedly equivalent, I had several with back and sides but not a top, some says the top contributes most of the sound. This one sounds more like a mahogany, the others with spruce an cedar tops are brighter, lovely but different. The inlays are sweet and the open pore finish was on my want list. It's a lovely, beautiful instrument and easy to play. I thought I may want to have a professional setup but on receipt it was perfect after measuring fret height etc.. Well done Kala!

Exquisitely Warm, Resonant Tone

By Stephanie TF from Fort Wayne, IN on February 22, 2023 Music Background: Advanced clarinet, intermediate violin, beginner ukulele

This uke has a clear, warm, mellow sound that puts is above and beyond others in this price range. I went to Sweetwater, having selected several other tenor ukes, mostly Luna and Lanikai, from their website that I was interested in trying. While waiting for these to be brought up from the warehouse, the Kala KA-SE-TE-C Solid Acacia Tenor Uke was hanging on the wall, so I started playing it to kill time, even though it's price was a bit more than I was planning to spend. What harm could it do, right? I was instantly impressed, not only by the clarity and warm resonance of the sound, but especially with how much more easily I could do cord progressions. (I'm a beginner with particularly large hands for a lady, you see.) When I compared it with the Luna and Lanikai models, there was no contest. I think this has to do with the solid acacia body. It just produces a gorgeous tone. This is definitely an uke that I'll be satisfied for playing many years, without feeling the need to trade up.

A real beaut!

For the $$ point, can't beat it! W/the Satin finish, it's been opening up quickly. You can say what you want about Koa, acacia works just as well. Nice overall sustain, decent mid-range & balance. Kala's craftsmanship, is really decent & consistent. Only drag is their factory setup, it's a quarantined trip to the local tech & extra $$.

Amazing playability, intonation and tone

By JR from Fort Wayne on August 28, 2019 Music Background: Singer / Songwriter 30 years (plus)

I had a really nice ukulele that I played for years, but sadly, I lost it when I was traveling, and I needed a replacement.. I always liked my other one, but the intonation was a little flaky. I could get it in tune for one chord, but then it would be just slightly off on another, and the octaves were a little bit off.. (and it wasn't a cheapo either) I don't know if most people would have noticed but I have a very sensitive ear when it comes to pitch, and it drove me a little nuts. So, before I picked a new ukulele I tried several, side by side, and this one is really something special! it's just a really great Uke!! It has a very warm, mellow sound...And of all the ukuleles I've tried, I think this one plays the best. The intonation is better. The tuning is rock solid, and the action is lower (and just nicer to play) Also, it didn't have any "buzz" like my last ukulele had. I WOULD highly recommend the Kala KA-SA-TE-C Solid Acacia Tenor to most people, you just need to know that it has a softer, warmer and more mellow tone than most Ukuleles, so it doesn't seem as loud as others, but it sounds amazing when you mic it, or run it through the Fishman pickup. I did wind up picking up another (different) Ukulele, but that one I'm setting up with a high G string and it is a little more "bright" sounding where I put a low G string on the Kala and I love the warm tones of it. Now I can use the 2 together on recordings to get a really amazing sound.. But If I could only keep one, it would definitely be the Kala KA-SA-TE-C Solid Acacia Tenor, it's an absolute joy to play!!!
