Kala KA-SA-B Solid Acacia Baritone Ukulele Reviews
The KA-SA-B Solid Acacia Series Baritone Ukulele is a beautifully crafted baritone ukulele made from solid acacia that delivers classic baritone uke tone. The KA-SA-B's all-acacia body is similar in appearance to koa wood, with beautiful curling and varied grain pattern that improves tonally as it ages. A gorgeous mahogany neck and walnut fingerboard offer great response as well, whether you're chording or playing lead. Rosewood binding and a GraphTech NuBone nut and saddle also provide tonal support to the already tone-rich acacia body. This baritone uke is ideal for living room jams or warm nights on the beach around a fire with friends. Uke enthusiasts here at Sweetwater love the KA-SA-B Solid Acacia Series Baritone Uke for its playability and tone.

Couldn't be Happier
Right out of the excellent packaging--would have survived a rollover crash--it looked and sounded great. This is my first baritone uke, and I love the sweet resonance and full sound when I strum and pick. The setup was also excellent, and made me realize the setup on my tenor was way too high. Definitely worth the money.
I was also impressed with Sweetwater's customer service. They're of the very few--maybe the only--large companies that seems to care about their customers. In future, I'm buying All my music gear from Sweetwater. I know I'm gushing, but it's nice to find someone who wants to do a good job.
VERY NICS BARITON
Sounds great and the setup was good
out of the box.
BEAUTIFUL with a sweet sound
I absolutely love this bari uke... It's truly one of a kind, and the most beautiful wood I've seen on one, yet! This uke has an adjustable neck, and mine was close to perfect out of the box. It's a lower tone uke, tuned to the higher four guitar strings, so the learning curve isn't too bad if coming from mainly guitar picking. I highly recommend this ukulele and Sweetwater. Been a customer here for over 11 years, I believe. Tyler Moore is my sales rep, and I highly recommend him, as well.
This is the one!
This is my 8th baritone uke, and I this is the one I've been searching for. The solid acacia construction is mellow and resonates. The open headstock and 90 degree tuners, the beautiful satin finish, and the crazy fret markers makes me want to just sit back and admire its beauty; but not for long as I gotta pick it up and play it! Just one problem: what am I going to do with my other ukes? Sell some (not all), and thus go into competition with Sweetwater? But there's no way can I match Sweetwater's excellent customer service!
This thing sounds amazing!
OK, so this isn't the most expensive Baritone Ukulele available, so I had pretty high expectations. I was, however, expected the plinky plinky deadness that ukes often produce. The solid wood of this beast makes it resonate like a bell, with a good solid bottom (for a uke) and crystal clear upper register.
The quality of construction is exceptional, the finish is quite nice, and in general... it was surprisingly good. I'm really pleased.
If I'm being honest, it would not have been on my radar as I was considering a slightly less expensive model, but Stephen Oppenheim, my Sweetwater Sales Engineer, suggested it, and I figured he knows better than I do... so I went for it. That turned out to be a solid move!
The Sweetest Sound
I watched every video on ukuleles on youtube I could find and finally decided on a baritone, and then on this one. I don't like shrill but didn't want another guitar I wasn't going to play because it's too clunky and inconvenient. Didn't even know baritone ukuleles existed. I have not one complaint about this instrument. It sounds so pure and resonant I can't stop playing it. I'm awfully happy my woodgrain isn't flared like the one in the pic, too. It has a delicate, laid-back visual dignity (made in China or not) with clean but understated straight grain, and it sounds like an angel. This incredible instrument for the money was a birthday present from my husband and I'm in love.
Nice Ukulele
I"ve played guitar for 40 years. This is my first ukulele. Got the baritone to make the learning curve easy since it"s tuned the same. Didn"t want to buy a cheap ukulele, or spend a lot on a high end one. For the price, this is a great instrument! No sharp fret ends, tunes nice, all solid wood, no laminate. Glad I didn"t need to spend more. Zach my sales rep even shipped it in the case I also bought. Really happy with it!
No Wonder It's Hard To Find !!
My husband surprised me with an early Christmas gift yesterday - Kala Solid Acacia Baritone. This model has not been available at local stores, so I was going by appearances, YouTube videos, faith and Kala's reputation. Right out of the box, the set up is perfect !! Tone is sweetly resonant, rivaling mahogany which I usually prefer. I was concerned about it having a walnut fingerboard rather than a more conventional hard wood, but it's well sealed and feels fine. Appearance wise, it is beautiful and has an old fashioned air to it, like it was just lifted from a 1920's Luthier's bench. Tomorrow, I will remove and toss away the little Made In China sticker. No one will suspect. You could easily spend quite a bit more money, and end up with a lesser instrument.
Kala KA SA-B
Very nice baritone ukulele with sweet sound.
A High-Quality Uke That Won’t Break the Bank
The Kala KA-SA-B Solid Acacia Baritone Ukulele is an incredible-sounding and easy-to-play instrument that rivals much more expensive ones. It feels like a compact bass guitar that you can take anywhere and practice at your convenience, with action so comfortable you don't even think about it! The fret size is ideal for players who have hands that are too large for tenor or concert ukes.
Great finish and Sound...Poor Setup
Well, this is most definitely a step up from my Kala Ka-B. The tone is rounder and quite beautiful. I'm still using the original strings and plan to put some Martins on it, but have waited because I'm still messing with the set up. The strings that came with the uke are ok, but don't have much "presence" on the high end. The set up was not good. There were sharp frets all along the fretboard on both sides, the nut slots needed filing and the saddle needed lowering. I had to purchase a special fret file to dress the fret ends and had nut files so I've been here before. I strongly suggest getting a "full setup" when buying any uke or guitar from Sweetwater. I know they have a check system, but that's not the same as a set up. I think they look more for flaws in the fit and finish. Relying on a proper set up from the factory is a crap shoot. Having said that, I love it enough to have an LRBaggs pick up installed and it sounds absolutely fantastic through my 3 pedal board and practice amp. It's a keeper.
Good but...
This ukulele really is beautiful. The acacia is a great tone wood and, being all solid, I"m looking forward to hearing how it matures. There were a few minor finish issues that left me a bit frustrated (some of the binding missing in a small spot by the neck and a surface blemish by the saddle). But I"m a perfectionist, these don"t make a difference in the sound or playability, and for the price I shouldn"t complain.
Almost
It's made in China. Overall I'd say workmanship is not stellar. Just got mine... Some seams are not 100% and appear to rely on glue and/or finish poly for sealant. Also at the heel of the neck there is a rough spot. Just sayin'. Why I expect more for this price, however, I'm not sure.
