Beautiful uke and excellent customer service
First off the ukulele is awesome. My first all solid wood ukulele and wow, the difference in sound is noticeable even to my very untrained ears. I sat there just strumming individual chord over and over, i couldnt get over how smooth and clear the sound was. But what really surprised me was how much more this thing projects than my others. It can get pretty loud while still sounding clear. Plus it just feels solid and well made and is a real pleasure to play. It really is exactly what I was hoping for in an upgrade from cheaper instruments. Also I was intrigued but not too sure about the tenor xl size but no this is perfect I love it.
Secondly, the customer service here is excellent. The first instrument I received had a thin crack down the back. I emailed them asking about an exchange and literally within an hour from sending the email they had called me back and had a new one shipped with expedited shipping. They didn't even wait until they got the first one back or anything.
So yeah, great company, great instrument, all around extremely happy with this purchase.
Very good XL Tenor Ukulele
This Ukulele is a joy to play. The wider nut makes for easier fingering at the nut. The beautiful Ziricote wood for the body makes this Uke a real piece of art to look at. This Low G tuning XL tenor ukulele records well and has a classic Hawaiian sound for rhythm. I can easily play Baroque music on it which is nice. Sweetwater shipping went smooth and the ukulele arrived on time and safe.
Best Tenor Ukulele I have ever played
This is not only the best sounding Ukulele I have ever played, it came with a near perfect setup and the intonation is right-on all the way up the neck. The beauty of this ukulele cannot be overstated, it's a work of art and craftsmanship. It has a very Hawaiian sounding style to it's rhythm playing and records very well. I was even able to play Baroque pieces on it that sounded really sweet thanks to it's Low G tuning and wide 1.5" nut. I'm a professional musician and pro guitar and bass repair and setup person. I also play Hawaiian steel guitar and classical guitar. This is a pro's ukulele that won't break the bank. You'll have a Zen experience spending time with this instrument. Thanks Kala...
Great sound, Great looking instrument
I chose this super uke because I was looking for another uke so I could have one with high G and one strung with a low G. I also wanted to try the longer neck and slightly bigger body than a tenor but keep the GCEA tuning and the price looked good for a solid wood instrument. This uke is very well made, has a beautiful sound and the exotic ziricote body is gorgeous. It has a very clear tone and great sustain. I am mainly interested in using this for fingerstyle playing and am very happy with it. I was surprised to find that even tho the action is a bit high, its easy to play and also surprised to find that the D'Addario nylon strings (w/wound G) that came with the uke sounded so good. It also came with $ bonus bux so I was able to add a case, strap and some other things to the deal. Thank you, Brook Floyd and Sweetwater!
Kala Spruce/Ziricote Super Tenor
Great price probably due to tiny blemish at bottom center strip near back and being older model. Having said that I am very happy with the sound. I have wanted a super tenor for years. Thanks! P.S. check out Bb tuning
Fun
I have played many string instruments for over half a century. This is a solid ukulele with a big sound and very fun to play. Wider neck gives a bit more space for fingers but still easy to barr. Pitch is true as you fret up the neck unlike cheaper ukuleles.
My Travel Ukulele
I owned a tenor ukulele as my travel uke but someone stepped on it and ruined it. I bought the Kala tenor St which has a bigger body & neck than a regular tenor. I be thought it would have a better sound being slightly bigger. And it does sound better than the uke it replaced.
This instrument is well made, the neck is bigger, more like a guitar neck, which makes for easy playing.
I have a much nicer uke as my main instrument so my travel uke doesn't need to be great, as it will go to the beach and it will get beat up over time.
This instrument would work nicely as my travel uke but I am now concerned it is too big. It doesn't fit in my tenor gig bag and it doesn't fit in my bike saddle bag. I have to buy a baritone gig bag, and I'm afraid this larger size will be a problem.
So while this ukulele is a very nice instrument, I think I will have to sell it and replace it with another ordinary tenor. Not the ukulele's fault but I don't think it will fit my needs.
