Best Headphones I’ve Ever Owned
I've always sworn by AKG headphones. I already own a pair of old K44's and the Q701. I've tried Sony, Sennheiser, and Audi-Technica headphones and AKG has consistently been the go-to for me when it comes to reference headphones. I love the clear sound reproduction with little to no coloration of frequencies so what you hear is what the music actually sounds like. The K872's are closed back so out of the box there is little "boxiness", which is inherent, but once they're broken in its unnoticeable and you hear all the frequencies clearly to make a sound decision in your mix sessions. I work both in studio and independently, so I don't always have access to professional monitors, especially when I'm on the go with an artist. I love the K872's natural, clear sound. Pair these with the Yamaha HS series monitors and your set. These are the best headphones I've ever owned.
EXACTING REPLICATION
The AKG K872's are the very best headphone I have experienced in my studio. I needed a set of cans that could not only be that perfect reference source when mixing & mastering, but I also needed them for tracking. Thanks to the closed-back design these can be used in proximity to sensitive microphones when tracking without bleed-thru. I also have the need to mix and master in a less than perfectly quiet studio, so the closed back design enables me to mix and master in a pseudo-perfect environment. They are very comfortable to wear and I experienced no fatigue when using them for hours at a time. They are easy to adjust and have a unique feature of sealing that small gap behind the ear where sounds can leak in or out. The frequency response is flat and does not alter the source material in any way - what you hear is exactly what you tracked and mixed. They do have a break-in period and the replacement lemo connector cable is single source and expensive (so take care and advise clients not to just toss them around the studio. Provide high-quality hangers in close proximity to make sure clients handle them with care.)
Amazing!
Headphones are the best I have ever used. Doing a lot of mixing on the road and looking to upgrade from my K701 (another awesome AKG product). Don't know how you can get any better than these. Ear fatigue is almost nonexistent because of how comfortable these are. Listen to your favorite music for reference and hear the detail and layers you never heard before. Awesome product!
