AKG K240 Studio Semi-open Pro Studio Headphones
AKG K240 Studio Semi-open Pro Studio Headphones Reviews
Reliable, comfortable, and totally accurate, it's no wonder AKG K240 Studio headphones have been the top choice of professional engineers and musicians for over 20 years. Their unique semi-open design and highly efficient transducers provide you with extremely wide dynamic range, breathtaking detail, and phenomenal sensitivity. That's why Sweetwater Sales Engineers have always been quick to recommend K240 Studio headphones, especially when it comes to critical listening and mixing. Whether you're in the engineer's chair or on the other side of the glass, we're sure you're going to love the sound, feel, and performance of AKG's K240 Studio headphones.
Comfortable
Good comfort for long usage. Sound is improving with usage.
My gear
My gear is working great and the customer service is awesome
Cool semi open back headphones
Got these on sale for Christmas the sound quality is really good and it is also very comfortable to wear feels like almost nothing tbh would recommend to people
Best For Session Musicians
I have used AGG K240s for over 30 years. Musicians in a session really like these because they're comfortable and they let you hear what you're playing without hype. I have tried other popular headphones which were not comfortable for long use. I don't use them for mixing or mastering, although it's good to have another reference.
AKG K240
The headphones are well made and the sound is great. Wouldn't hesitate to purchase again and I highly recommend them to anyone.
Fun Headphones
These are fun headphones! They've got a lot of clarity. You can hear the whole audio spectrum, and the stereo field and detail are great for an open-backed set of headphones. They work for mixing, but they don't sound quite enough like everything else to be perfect for final mixes or mastering. The low end is a little lighter than in most modern gear, but as I said, you can hear everything. They're comfortable because they're light, but they feel a little more plasticky than more expensive offerings.
Great for a guitar headphone amp
Bought these to use when playing my guitar using a headphone amp or Tonex One. They work great for that. Cheap headphones didn't work with the Tonex for some reason. I really like the semi open design. That way I can hear when someone talks to me. I have a pair of nice closed back headphones too, but they really block all outside sound. My son would often come in and start talking to me and I'd have to take the headphones off and say; What? So these solve that problem.
Great price, good sound
Ive been using these headphones for a solo project and a band with my dad and brother for a few years. They have held up well, sound good, and for the price, they are excellent. I wish they had a bit more power in the bass range of frequincies, but otherwise I like these quite a bit
Amazing Headphones + Amazing Company!!!
Not only do these headphones sound amazing and work great for digital audio production and sound design, but the Sweetwater team is amazing! I ordered a pair of these headphones, and when FedEx failed to deliver them on time (they were an entire week behind), I reached out to Carman and they offered to ship me a new pair free of charge! Thanks again to Carmen and rest of the Sweetwater team for amazing customer service!
Perfect fit
These headphones are so light - I no longer get headaches from my old set! And they are perfect for recording.
Tried and true for 30 years
Have one of these that's 30 years old, still sounding faithfully great. When I needed another I was pleased to see they're still making an updated model. Purchased it. Yep, same affordable reference monitoring sound. Convenient cabled connectivity. Great ROI.
Great match with studio monitors
TBH, I don't know why people go for those Sony 7506 phones in studios here in the US and the Beyer DT100s in the UK. In my opinion, they both suck sound-wise and sound so different from speakers, they affect your judgement. The AKG K240s are far more natural sounding and I never want to use anything else.
Cheaply made
These sound ok, but the adjustable head piece crapped out shortly after first using them, then one of the plastic pieces near the ear pad fell off. Unfortunately, I set these aside and used my Sony's instead, so by the time I remembered them the warranty ran out.
Great for my home studio
Again, Mark Magdich was instrumental (pun intended) in helping me decide what would work best for me. These have proven to be the perfect choice, especially to stay withing my budget. I do have a Koss set also but the AKG's are used the most.
Perfect Customer Service
Sweetwater customer service and gear availability are second to none.
My Sweetwater sales engineer, Mike Johnson, is also the best. Mike's knowledge, professionalism and customer care is extraordinary.
Big bang for the buck!
I just got these delivered early this afternoon (Monday, January 09).....still in the burn-in phase, but wow.....these are a huge improvement over the K44s I had! Everything sounds amazing. I have them plugged into a Creative Labs SoundblasterX G6 USB soundcard, and I can't believe how much more detail I'm hearing. Don't let the low price fool you....Hi-res audio sounds great....definitely getting the full range with these. Highly recommended!
AKG240 Headphones
I love these headphones for recording. I can easily hear myself playing with the track. I can't imagine a better studio headphone for a brass player. My studio and recording partner also got a pair after working with mine. We're both seasoned musicians and have lived recorded in NY & Chicago as well as touring world wide for many years. We now have a home studio and are recording new music every day.
I have had nothing but great experiences with Sweetwater and wouldn't think of buying gear from anyone else.
Mid-range
They are part of my tools for mixing and mastering. Just for checking the mid-range, they are clear and you can trust them but not in lows frequencies bass and kick.
Still my favorite studio headphones.
I have owned my pair for a couple decades.
I used them in th 90's at studios i worked in.
Non fatiguing, balanced frequency response.
Nails balanced headphone mixing if needed.
My old pair, while still functioning needed to be replaced.
The toughness of these phones are hard to beat.
My new model has some new features like a replaceable cord, but is still the same comfy and great sounding headphone i love.
Very Good Great Price Point
I purchased these headphones to use with Waves Abbey Roads Studio 3 plug-in. They are one of the many headphones that have been EQ'd specifically for mixing and mastering in this environment. They indeed work nicely and I have been able to continue to grow and learn as I pursue my musical journey. Perhaps the most important to me is that they are very comfortable and I forget I'm even wearing them. There are probably better and more expensive options but for me these tick all of the boxes at the present time. I hope this review helps you make the best decision for your own musical journey.
the great studio standard
A comfortable semi open headphone, that's neutral and clear. One of the best headphones for recording while playing horns as you get some important room sound feedback. Also is relatively cool.
Great headphones
I bought my first pair of AKG K240 headphones in 1978. Great sound and very lightweight and comfortable. I was working in radio so they got a lot of use and held up very well and still work. I also have a newer pair. I own several other pairs of Sennheiser headphones and these ones have always been one of my favorites. Nice natural clean sound.
The ONLY Headphones I Use in My Booth!
I've been purchasing the AKG K240 Studio Headphones for years now. As a Voice Actor, they're my go-to for when I have a live recording session. The sound is just perfect for me. I also prefer them when I'm learning new songs to sing. I can hear all the parts and I feel immersed in the music when these babies are on my ears! I've tried other headsets, but I just keep coming back to these.
Nice clear budget friendly
These are very good for home recording, light, semi open back design is perfect for long wear and being able to hear more naturally while working with acoustic guitars or singing. Love the long cord and secure attachment to headphones. Could use better bass response, I could see how a headphone amp would be needed if working with loud ambient sound, like drums.
Solid cans!
For the price, these headphones are great! We use them for any talent coming in as well as I have a back-up pair I take with me just about everywhere when away from the studio.
Get the job done
I've had mine for 3 years now and I love them.
I'm working on my 3rd album using these headphones to record & mix with.
Fantastic reference/monitor headphones
The Perfect Headphones
The AKG K-240 Studio Headphones are the best-balanced pair of headphones I've ever used. Being an AKG K-44 Studio Headphones veteran, I got used to its bassy side and would mix at a lower volume to make sure of a well-balanced mix. The K-240 Studio Headphones are definitively an upgrade and so clean that you can hear a pin drop; the quality of my mixing abilities increased tenfold. This is a win-win purchase, whether you're a beginner or a professional.
* Important Note: I use Acustica's Free Sienna Studio Rooms as a user has the option to choose the make and model of current studio headphones; it makes a big difference.
Bought these many times over the years and always awesome!
If you want great open back headphones at a reasonable price, these are they. They continue to deliver and I'll keep buying them.
Great open back headphones
I have several pair of closed back and noise canceling headphones. I bought these to practice guitar and still be able to hear what's going on in the room around me. For that purpose these are great headphones at a great price.
Last forever!
I have had the same pair for nearly 25 years! That is absolutely insane! They have never let me down. I still have the original cable. I have gone through so much gear since the day I bought them. I have used them in my home studio beginning with my reel to reel setup, a MiniDisc multitrack, later on to ADAT, onto a Mackie Hard Disk recorder, and through every iteration of the DAW that I have used in my studio (Cool Edit to ACID to Sonar to Cubase to Reason, to Logic and then Pro Tools. The one constant: my AKG K240 headphones. If their build quality is still the same as when mine were built then this has to be the best bargain for a very serious pair of headphones.
Decent but not as good as my old pair
I bought these because I really liked the natural sound of my old (around 15 years) K240s but the new ones sound thinner and more harsh. I still have the old ones so did a direct A/B comparison. I would definitely recommend an old pair but there are no doubt better alternatives to the new ones. I also own some Sony 7506s but they are ridiculously bright/harsh and cause the studio monitors to sound muffled after using them for a bit! For recording, you really need something that responds in a similar manner to the speakers. These are better than the Sonys and although partially open, don't give me any problems with spill so at the price, they're okay.
Nice AMP Headphones
A new product for me. I am use to Computer headphones and at first rated these against those. No volume control and of course no MIC. But after playing through my AMP from the guitar I noticed a clean and rich sound that I have never heard through a pair of headphones. I solid stereo feel with highs and lows through out.
Comfortable
Nice quality sound for the price and comfortable during long sessions.
First studio headphones
As a teenager, the AKG K240 was my first set of headphones. This new set fits our daughter really well. She finds the one cord on the left side as awkward as opposed to a split design, however, the sound is exceptional. The soft padding is very comfortable. She wishes there were more airflow in and around the ears.
Excellent headphones, just what I needed
I finally upgraded to a real set of studio headphones for my at-home setup- electric guitar, through a pedal board, and amplified by an Orange Micro Terror head using the headphone jack. I know I'm not getting as much out of these headphones as they were designed for, but for my purposes they're nearly perfect. They fit well (I have a large head) and are very comfortable and lightweight. My one complaint about this product is that there are pinch points where the ear cups meet the headband, and if you have long hair, it will get caught. Be sure to tie your hair back before putting these on. Still, I'm happy with my purchase.
Not long hair friendly
Sounds decent, but the side knobs catch the hair and rip the hair out, so recommend having hair in pony or in bandana
Used them for years, love 'em!
I tend to be hard on headphones because I end up sitting/stepping/yanking on the cord and they go flying off my head often. These will take the abuse. But best of all, they have a super flat response so you know exactly what your mix sounds like. Excellent product all around.
Awesome guys, thank you
Great product, excellent service
These headphones are old friends of mine from the 1980s and 1990s. They continue to be the most dollar for value treasure in the industry.
I used these headphones exclusively in my home 16 track Studio.
Early on, I discovered whenever I took them off, the sound that I was hearing was exactly the same as that which was coming out of my studio monitor speakers, JBL 4311s, which were 8 feet midfield monitors in a pink noise equalized room and 33 band EQ.
AND... the marketing surrounding this product is absolutely correct when they refer to how comfortable these headphones are because I literally wore them more hours than I did not wear them and never had a problem with discomfort.
Don't Mix Well
I've had a pair for several years, and mixed many things on them. They always cause me to mix with too much low end.
They are also a bit tight and can get tiresome to wear. I'd say they are worth the money, but you may have to learn to compensate for them if you mix with them.
WOW
I didn't know headphones could be this good and this versitle. I love listening to music with them and playing my instrument along, I can hear both very well!
AKG K240
For the money.....these are hard to beat !
Headphones
I only play my guitar at home, and I needed to not disturb the rest of the house. I was using an old set of noise-canceling earphones that I originally got for use on airplanes. I got the AKG K240 headset and was amazed. The sound quality is actually better than what I get from the amp when not using them. They're semi-open, so I don't feel isolated from the world when I'm using them. Also, I am able to use them while still wearing my hearing aids. I can't really compare them to other, professional headsets, but don't see how it could get much better.
Very good Headset!
Used it a couple of times so far. Love it. Comfortable and good sound. I must add that the reason for buying it in addition to be a full over the ear headset, is the long cable that it has. I needed something so I could play my guitar in the living room while others are watching TV. It works great. It also have the adapter for amplifiers.
I've used them for 30 years.
I work in the audio industry testing magnetic tape when it was the staple format. Every AES engineer who designed products, worked or ran a studio approved the AKG K240 as the standard. The honest replication was the real application but bonuses existed in it's clarity, transparency throughout the sound spectrum, it's ability to scale up from flat to robust and exciting. Sound board engineers would do their best tweeks, their best hidden secrets with these headphones. Best headphones for professional sound.
AKG K240 Studio Headphones
Let's say you just need a really good headphone to play when your wife is watching tv in the same room where your digital piano is set up. This fits the need to a T. You can spend more but you don't need to! You'll be pleased with these!
great headphones
I love these headphones..They are super quiet, fit perfectly and I love the sound through them with my guitars. Don't think I could be happier and the price was unbelievable. Plus they are very attractive.
AKG K240
My original pair of 240's heard a lot of original music over the years. As a drummer, it's important to hear everything in the mix when it's your turn to lay down the groove. When they finally gave up the ghost, I knew it was probably time to replace them (I should add that my original phones were 30+ years old) I am so thankful that Sweetwater had a sweet deal. Here's to another 30 plus years.
Great Gear
Love these headphones
Depth, clarity, response--they change the listening experience for recording or hearing favorite tunes.
And big in size for good coverage and light weight for comfort.
Thanks
Great product
Works and sounds really really well and is pretty aesthetically
akg 4240
I'm using for mixing until I can afford some decent monitors.. Neutral and clear. Can't beat for the money. I have no comparison with high end headphones, but these are big help . Mixes sound way better when I listen in regular closed phones or computer speakers or on cd mixes in the car or my home stereo
AKG K240
Amazing quality, and shipped with care. Wont stop getting my equipment from you guys
great headphones
These headphones have a wide range of frequency and tonal quality. Exceeded my expectation. And A.J. is awesome.
A quality product and exceptional service. Win Win.
The headphones are perfect for what I need them for. They are comfortable and work well. And as always my sales engineer Derek always steers me right!
Tough As Hell head phones
I love these headphones so much. I bought JBL headphones along side these ones. They completely snapped in half 6 months after I bought them, when I was opening them to put them on! Just snapped like a stale saltine cracker. But these akg headphones have been put through the ringer, been sat on, been dropped, you name it. I own my own recording studio plus I have 5 kids, these headphones have seen a thing or two. They're not phased one bit. They take a punch straight in the face and say, "That all you got". I am willing these headphones to my favorite child, nothing can beat them. I will go to my grave still whispering..."Akg headphones are the best headphones I ever owned, plus they sound phenomenal."
Great Headphones & Great Value
I bought a pair after reading numerous reviews of semi-open back headphones and wasn't dissapointed. I wear hearing aids and these phones are very accomodating. For the price they can't be beat, and they deliver the full aural range of highs and lows without distortion or garble.
I like the open back design
This is my first set of studio headphones so I don't have anything to compare these two, but I have enjoyed them for use and playing guitar at home with my family does not want to hear the noise… The sound quality seems to be good and I like that I can hear what's going on around me while playing so that if my wife says something to me I hear it or I can watch a show and doodle on guitar with the headphones on at the same time and hear both. The volume is not very loud; I turn my amp up to 75% volume and sometimes 100% volume when playing on a 50 watt tube amp when using the headphones. I'm not sure if that is normal or not… I also like the long 10 foot cord, as it helps and not getting tangled up with my guitar when playing.
muffled sound
I'm comparing these to my Scarlett HP60 Mk.II headphones. The AKG K240 headphones sound muffled but don't distort or cut off any audio from what I've noticed in the past month.
Sounds almost the same as the amp
For the price, these are great. Well worth the $ or so. I unfortunately, spend most of my guitar playing time, with head phones. And these make it sound almost identical to playing through the amp. The ONLY issue I have, which was not an issue, until I recently got the Digitech drop pedal. Is you can hear the strings through the head phones. Which didn't bother me. But now that I have the drop pedal, that lowers your tuning Hearing the strings while using that, is like nails on a chalk board. But if hearing the strings is not an issue, then these will be perfect for you! And a fairly decent price, if you look at some of the prices on other quality head phones.
Recording Standard
I have used AKG 240 headphones in working studios for years and years. They are a standard for good reason. You will be hard pressed to find anything better for accuracy and function at this price. I bought three Chinese pairs recently and one set, without having been pushed or abused, is farting in the right ear. Though you can't argue about the price with most Chinese made stuff, the Austrian made ones were real hard to break.
NOT A LONG TERM PRODUCT
The sound of these units is passable for home recording in a one or two man studio. But the real weak spot is the horribly inferior wire that shoots out of this unit. In one or two days this "rat tail" wire will TWIST, AND COIL AND SPLIT OPEN IN PARTS. Within a few weeks I had as many as 10 split open areas along the wire. DO NOT BUY THIS ITEM UNLESS THEY REPLACE THE WIRE. I had to manipulate the splits in order to hear in stereo and it could take up as long as 5 minutes to get the stereo sound. With each passing usage it took longer and longer to get the stereo sound. No way are these useful.
STUDIO HEADPHONES
THESE ARE NICE SOUNDING PHONES AND ARE VERY LIGHT AND CONFORTABLE
THESE PHONES WILL DO EXACTLY WHAT I NEEDED FOR MONITORING MY MSIC…
Excellent cans for the studio
After 20 + years I had to replace my AKG K240 studio headphones. I have been using these for recording for many years. Even before I owned my own pair the studios I recorded in over the years always used the the K240. They are my go to for tracking, mix referencing, and all around use. These are the best for my ears. And like I have already pointed out, my last pair lasted over 20 years. Thank you to my trusted Sweetwater guide Ian Roegels for many years of excellent service I truly appreciate it.
Great for tracking vocals
These headphones are amazing for being able to hear yourself clearly when recording vocal tracks.
Would never buy these again.
The headphones themselves are alright. But the cord provided, 1. is proprietary, so if anything happens to it you have to buy a super special one from AKG. 2 it is constantly getting wrapped around things and knocking them over, or stuck on the arms of the chair when you try to stand up. I've watch glasses of water fall over, guitars, etc. Had a disaster where it got caught around a mic stand, pulled a mic to the ground, dominoed into a tripod with a camera/lens and sent that flying into the ground... and that was about the point I gave up on these.
"Well, why don't you tie them up?" Tried that. Then you either end up getting up from your desk and having them rip off of your head because the cable is too short, or they just knock things over on your desk when you move
Pretty good
Definatley worth the price( even more if on sale).
Good upgrade set for home studio mixing versus super cheap phones. Bass seems accurate.
Also, goota thank Gage for the suggested add on!
My favorite since 1995!
The title said it all. :)
there are not loud enough, iosolation is poor! just my opinion!
im an older drummer.hearing not as good. the AKG headphones were not loud enough, isolation poor!
AKG K240 Headphones
I was looking for a decent priced set of Studio headphones to replace a different set. I was Hesitant to buy another budget priced set. Do Not let the price fool you! Great sounding headphones!! I do not mix with headphones but do use them to hear the stereo spectrum of my mix.
I'll be picking up another pair for my vocal booth!
AKG K240 Studio Semi-open Pro Studio Headphones
Good phones for the price. Very impressed with sweetwater customer service!
AKG K240
Nice phones for the $$. I was trying to find a set of cans that would sound decent with the Line 6 POD Go headphone out. These seem to work pretty well. They are nice and light, have that nice semi-open air feel to them and don't fatigue your head. The only con is that they make your head sweat with those big over-sized cans.. especially with the vinyl earpads.
AKG headphones
True sound. Great for the price.
AKG K240
Great headphones very light not bulky like the K175 ,if you play an instrument these are the headphones you want to be wearing as they won't get in your way.
There ok
Just like monitors its best to have more then one set, same with headphones. There a good tool.
AKG K240 Studio Semi-open Pro Studio Headphones
Quality sound and comfort for as long as you need to wear them. Dollar for dollar the best in performer use.
Sweetwater's Jozy F. rules!
Great inexpensive headphones
These are a great deal for what you get. Expansive sound field.
Love them!
I am a DJ. These are not deejaying headphones (they have no swivel cups), but they are flexible, so you could technically move one pad off your ear. But for listening, editing, etc., they are perfect. They are extremely comfortable, even when worn for long periods of time. I also like the straight cable (not a fan of coiled cables because they pull the hair on my arms when I am sitting down).
The sound quality is very good, good range and faithful reproduction.
Pads and cable are replaceable, should you ever need to.
For the price, you can't go wrong.
Comfy, Large AKG Headphones
Great headphones
I've had these for a year or two and they work very well for my home studio use. I have used AKG, Senheiser, and Koss phones. I have to say i am most impressed with these and my Koss.
PRIMO
Primo... Nuff Said
AKG K240 Headphones
Great sound reproduction. Lightweight and properly padded for hours of comfort. Outstanding customer service from Sweetwater! You would have thought that I was making a huge purchase in light of their attentiveness and followup.
Great headphones even greater price!
This is my second pair and they are still great! I have a home studio and I already had one pair and I have used that great links I added some more studio equipment and needed another pair of headphones and was pleased to still find these in stock at SWEETWATER! They are a great set of headphones for a phenomenal low price… They work great for me!
Ask for Mark Thompson, he is the most knowledgeable engineer I have ever worked with at SWEETWATER
Clean and clear.
I got these to use with my GT1B so I can practice without keeping everyone up at night. These have a very clean and clear sound. I have also used them for playing games with my 3ds. For the price these sound fantastic. I had been using my friend's Beats and those have overly strong bass to the point of being muddy. With these I can loop drums, bass and multiple guitar tracks and hear everything separate but together fine.
K240
Thank you Sweetwater quick delivery great customer service support and thank you Nate
Nice sound nice price
Comfortable great sounding headphones clean highs tight clean bass. Great value
Great budget studio headphones
These are great studio headphones for the price. The adjustable headband is really nice and I like the feature of being able to disconnect the cable from the headphones. They feel very light, so they're good for long use.
Where's the Bass?
I just can't believe how these sound, in terms of all high end and very moderate mids and absolutely no bass. I really don't understand the 5-star reviews. I mixed one and only one song with these and the outcome was terrible. Once I played the song on other devices, the bass was over the top because I was compensating for the lack of bass in these. I think two stars is being very generous. I can plug my Sennheiser PW100s (which are more about portability) in the same source and they sound so much better, richer and even louder not to mention the comfort level. I do not recommend the AKG240s for any use. Just doesn't get the job done. Sorry I wasted my money on them.
They do the job
You can certainly find better headphones out there. But for recording and mixing they work really well. Certainly can't beat the price and they are very light and comfortable to wear. Probably won't upgrade headphones for a while. These do the job perfectly.
Buy the best...forget the rest!
Former Nashville Audio consultant to the studio industry . Finest most comfortable accurate headsets available, PERIOD
Amazing quality
The K240 headphones give you a little bit of everything. They look amazing and they're very comfortable. The audio quality is some of the best I've heard from a pair of headphones. I would definitely recommend these to anyone who is using a digital piano or synthesizer.
AKG K 240 Headphones
These headphones sound amazing. They're lightweight very comfortable and have great specs. I would recommend this product to
anyone looking to record or perform without breaking the bank. Patrick @ All Audio.
Great Headphones
I use these when I practice with my studio microphone and they sound great. The detail and wide range are awesome. Would love to have a second set for guest.
Hard to beat for the money
I'm very happy with the sound of the AKG 240 Studio. I use it for music listening and guitar practice. There is slight leakage due to the open design but not bad and you can't beat the price.
AWESOME
These headphones have a rich clear sound and are not heavy on your head
Great headphones
As these are probably the most expensive headphones I have owned to date I dont have much to compare to but I am super happy with them. I have been using them to record and mix and I cant be happier. Compared to my much cheaper Sennheiser phones that Ive had for about a year these are superior in every way. Very comfortable too. I can wear these for extended periods with no issues. Highly recommended!
AKG240 Studio Semi-open Pro Studio Headphones.
Exactly what I was hoping for. I prefer the semi-open headphones as they sound more natural to me. Not enough leakage to be a problem when recording and very comfortable to wear. These are the phones I encounter in the studio most often: Capitol, EastWest, Fox, Eastman etc. I sometimes mix or reference using my AKG702's and the AKG240"s have some of those qualities. Great price for great phones from Sweetwater.
Puppy ate the cable.
Our puppy chewed up the cable the first day. We are so glade to be able to replace the cable. Got 8 ft cable built with silver plated shielded cable and gold-plated connectors from AmplifierSurgery (Made in the USA)
and very happy with the sound.
Great, CLEAR Sound!!
These headphones were recommended to me and I'm extremely happy with them.
They provide an extremely clear sound to help me with my mixing needs.
I highly recommend these for anyone looking for a pair of mixing headphones.
(Headphones do bleed sound a little, not intended for everyday, on the go listening purposes)
Do the job
Purchased these for my Bass amp. As the title says does the job and I am happy with the purchase and Sweetwater's customer service!!!
Does the job
A decent set of headphones for the price to replace my worn out $150 Sony headphones (after a bunch of years the cable and ear pads disintegrated). I use the AKG240's with my bass trainer to learn cover tunes. I can hear the music clearly and pick out my parts. Comfortably covers the entire ear and very light weight. Very pleased.
Perfect for my VO work
I love these headphones. I can wear them for several hours with little no fatigue and the sound?!? Cmon... They're AKG..
I've never been happier.
Awesome headphones
Awesome headphones. Replaced my AKG K-240s from the early 2000s but sadly the NEW AKG-K240s are made in China vs Austria. Let's see if they will last as long...
Great product
Awesome product , thanks sweetwater for your great service .
K240 Studio Headphones Excellent
The K240 Studio Headphones were a very good choice. Plugged into my Orange 20RT amp, they look and sound excellent for silent practice. At this price they are a very good deal.
I dig these!
I replaced a pair of Audio-Technica ATH-M40x phones which drove me crazy because of the design (I had to untangle them everytime I grabbed them). I bought these AKG and not only do they function much better but they sound much better for me too. They are very comfortable. Dig them.
Great reference monitor headphones
These headphones are so comfortable and very transparent. They are pretty flat so be careful with your low end as you can add too much low end to compensate - keep that in mind. These are a must have in any studio IMO!
Me encantaron!!
Tienen un sonido real a lo que se escucha sin ellos, livianos y cómodos, los recomiendo si estas buscando uno audífonos económicos y con unas prestaciones geniales, para tu home studio.
Great clear uncolored sound
Sound quality is a 5 star Uncolored and crystal clear.
Comfort is 4 star only because the standard ear cushions make your ears sweat.
Buy the cushion replacements to get the vented ones.
Buy these
Work great and very comfortable for long meetings.
Good Sound, But Uncomfortable!
Sounds ok, I guess
These claimed to be loud but THEY ARE NOT!!! If you want liud, do not get these
Expected more
The sound quality is very good on these. Good bass response with overdoing it. 3 stars instead of 5 because of VERY low volume. Any background noise and it will be hard to hear. Great for mixing in a noiseless environment, but that's about it.
AKG K240 headphones
I've had a pair of these headphones for the last 20 years and decided to buy another and they are just as good now as they were back then!!!
Really awesome
I live in an apartment so I need something that will create the sounds that my amp makes, these do just that. The sound is amazing, they are very light weight, and dollar for dollar they cant be beat.
Great product!
Great product and great value! I found these semi-open headphones to be just what I needed to review several hours of recent recordings for my next project. They were comfortable and gave a level reference across a wide range of frequencies. I plan to supply them to other members on the team.
Love these
Very comfortable and accurate.
Been using these for years in the studio.
Can't go wrong
Can’t go wrong with a classic
I've been using a pair of this K240 as main mixing headphones for about 10 years straight, when they use to cost double the price as they do now. Which I was pleasantly surprised since after accidentally breaking my original ones I was in the market for new ones and with that price why change? I've found that everything translate very well to different speakers, specially when keeping with the lower volume as mixing levels approach since they are quieter(but "cleaner") than other headphones that run at the same price range. Plus, they have been a studio headphones that have lasted the test of time and still going strong!
More bass than I expected
Comfortable and they sound good
Good headphones for the price, and the chord can easily be changed. What more do you want?
Great cans
These headphones are great for mixing! Everything is clear and pronounced. Would highly recommend them.
Great Phones for Private Play and More
I chose these AKG K240 cans largely for private practicing during the coronavirus lockdown with family members working and studying at home. But I've also been enjoying the full sound of my record collection, streaming, and more. Very versatile, comfortable enough to wear for hours. Plus they are open enough to hear background. The bass response is really good meaning you don't need to play loud to hear the range of your instrument. Kurt C helped me with the final decision as there are many headphone options. Would buy again. I have used these every day since receiving.
A good bargain headphone
I snagged a pair of these on sale because I needed something in a pinch at minimal cost.
In short, I think they're a decent set of headphones, and worth their price. I don't find myself getting lost in immersion though like I have with other headphones. They do sound solid though, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to others looking for something to get them started. I wish the bass had a little more oomph. A big plus is the detachable cable. LOVE THAT, especially at this price point. I have a tendency to run over cables with my chair, and surprisingly the original cable has held up thus far to a solid 5 months of use.
High quality and great sound.
I purchased the headphones to use with my electric guitar. They work great, no hissing sounds and the sound is as good as the amp. I tried wireless headphones but it did not work. The ten foot cable works perfect for evening playing while my wife watches TV. Excellent product for the money Also great service from Sweetwater.
Good, but...
The headphones have one drawback: a noticeable sound lift in the region of 125 hz, which causes a boxy sound effect. If not this problem would be one of the best.
Excellent! My best headphones!
I use over the ear headphones when playing guitar, mostly when practicing and playing with back up tracks. I got sick and tired of wearing headphones, some were wireless with noise canceling, and after a half hour my ears would STING from fatigue. These are ssooo comfortable! I will probably wear these to bed now while watching TV or iPad .. big and light... my rep Chris Jenkins hooked me up to these and I love them! Also, I wear hearing aids and with these headphones I can wear my hearing aids too if I want to! There’s a lot of room so positioned right, they won’t whistle with feedback! It’s nice to know I can do either or... thank you Sweetwater and Chris....
Professional Headset
Great Headset, best headset that I used everyday to practice with my new Fender Stratocaster.
I would recommend it to anyone that is looking for a good headset of studio quality.
I would buy this again.

Sounds Good to me!
I one of these up while they were sale and a demo was available because I'm cheap. I had gotten tired of practicing (Line 6 HD500, did I mention I was cheap?) guitar using my Shure 215's. Putting them in, taking them out was a hassle due to interruptions while practicing. This is my first pair of cans and I like them. They're comfortable & sound good. I'm also using them for multi-track mixing.
Awesome cans
As you well know, low end can be a fickle mistress. And mixing on headphones often compounds the issue. But the open design of these headphones makes for clear decision making for frequencies below 80hz and smooth transition to those frequencies. If your mix in these cans sounds boomy or muddy...... it’s likely your mix is boomy or muddy.
True the open nature of their design makes them less than optimal for tracking, but this is a small price to pay for the benefit of improving your mixes. Chances are you already have another set of headphones for tracking anyway.
For the price they’re phenomenal. At any price, they’re invaluable.
Decent Sound
The headphones have good sound and the open nature is better for my ears (prevents the sometimes blocked up air pressure effect). They are not as long term comfortable as I hoped, after 1.5 to 2 hours I need to take them off. Overall, I am happy with them.
Great Reference Headphones
The best feature of these phones is their light weight. Wearing them for long periods of time is easy. The sound quality is top notch. I hear audio details in the headphones that I missed with my external monitors. To top it off, they're self adjusting, which makes it easy to put them on and fitting comfortably without too much hassle. Definitely a sound investment.
Great value, comfort, & sound
These sound great, are comfortable, cheap, and well constructed.
Very comfortable and nice sound at a more than affordable price.
I had my eye on these headphones for a while caught em on sale and couldn't be happier with them.
they are very comfortable to wear for long periods of time and the sound response is nice and even. I Just may have to pick up a couple more of these just to have em in my inventory.
Legendary Phones
I replaced an old old old set of these phones that seemed to have gotten lost in a move. The sound on these is so open, so clean and accurate. And yes, they're comfy. Nice and light.
Great Headphones
I use these as monitors on the worship team at church. I can hear all vocals and instruments very clear. More importantly, my tele sounds great. Most importantly, it’s much easier to flow with the Holy Ghost. I think He likes them too!
Great Product!!
I have owned the AKG K-240 since 1989 paid 179.00 back then, still work great ! have never failed me, still sound great!
Does The Job Well!
I've used AKG headphones for decades...in broadcasting, voice overs, music production, etc. The K240S is a great buy for the price point! Good definition and stereo image with a nice overall frequency response. If isolation/spill is critical you'll probably want to go with closed-back cans although I've used the K240S for tracking with no big problems. Good for mixing too.
AKG K240
Headphones sound great and are very comfortable even when wearing for long period of time.
AKG K240 Studio Semi-open Pro Studio Headphones
Great sounding Headphones and comfortable to wear for long periods.
I mainly use these headphones to practice, so that I don’t disturb others. The semi-open back makes it comfortable for long practice sessions.
Inaccurate Sound
These headphones aren't horrible: good price, durable, and actually really comfortable. The sound profile is unfortunately, very bad though. These headphones are almost incapable of accurately emulating low frequencies at all below around 100-150hz. Even the standard apple earbuds have better bass than these. Also, they boost the mids to ridiculous levels. Hip hop, metal, EDM, and anything with bass will sound flat and low-fidelity. If you are thinking about mixing with these, then your mixes are probably going to come out horrible to be honest. Good for watching youtube videos online and casual listening of pop and acoustic music I guess, but these really shouldn't even be classified as studio monitors in my opinion.
No Bass
If you like bass in your music don't buy these, they have none to speak of.
Amazingly natural sound for the price-point.
AKG K240 Headphones
They're as good now as they were in the 80's when I bought the two pairs that I still use today !!
Great Headphones
These headphones sound great and I'm very pleased with my purchase. The audio quality is good and they are comfortable to wear for extended periods of time. I also like how you can replace the cable easily if it is damaged. I will be using these for a long time!
AKG K240 Studio Semi-open Headphones
I purchased these to use when practicing my drums. I wanted the open back so I could hear what I was playing. They work great. Great sound and they do let sound through so I can actually hear the drums. Great suggestion by the Sweetwater sales staff.
Love them
Can not beat the quality for the price!
Impressions AKG K240
I remember, back in the day, the two best headphones I ever used were the AKG's and a pair of DC's (David Clarks). I decided it was time to get back to the great sound of the AKG. I was not disappointed. Excellent sound reproduction and, a plus for me, very comfortable to wear for long sessions.
AKG240
Not good as I expect. Possible needs to get a high grade see if better then sony brand
Recorded Book Narrator Loves the 'Phones
I"m a former radio announcer and I gave up the much-vaunted "Beats" headphones for something simpler and more comfortable: headphones I don"t have to leave on a charger all night. The AKG K240 headphones provide the level of external noise exclusion and audio accuracy I need for recording and editing my voice productions. They are also lightweight, durable and easy to handle. I doubt they will wear out, but if they do, I would buy them again!
best buy
AKG K240s are hard to beat. Awesome value and true sound. I have bought several pairs in my long broadcasting/producing career, it's the only studio headphones I use and keep several around always.
Pretty friggin sweet!
Excellent price on SDotD... These phones are "barely there" and sound great! They have already helped to improve my mixes as I can hear more of what"s there! Awesome!
Great Headphones.
First set of headphones I've bought in years. They are lightweight, seem plenty sturdy, are comfortable to wear, and sound great. I bought them to plug into my guitar amp so I can practice and not disturb my wife.
AKG never disappoints
Plenty comfortable new, and have the sound that I need. I mostly use my akg q 701 s which are my favorite, but I wanted something I could take to sessions and while recording remotely and these are perfect. A little tight right out of the box, but I hope they retain the quality and durability that the 701s have over the years.
Money well spent!
Super comfortable, and carries a nice wholesome sound at various volume levels; much like you'd expect from quality studio headphones!
Great value!
These are excellent sounding headphones at a fraction of the price of other comparable sounding headphones. And the service at Sweetwater is second to none!
Workhorse
Been using these for years. Great reference quality for the price. No audio sweetening.
Great!
Very nice, very clear!
My experience with AKG K240
Happy as a clam!
I haven't had my AKG K240, Semi-open Pro Studion Headphones, long,
but I love the sound, the feel, and the comfort of them!
This is my first pair of "semi-open" headphones - and they feel and sound fantastic!
The sounds are so clear, my ears can breath and the music sounds more real to me.
Looking at my old headphones which I've had for at least 20 years, and which finally stopped working on one side; I realized they were also made by AKG. So, I fully expect my new headphones will last for a long time, too. They certainly look and feel strong and sturdy; but, more importantly - are as light, comfortable and cool as can be! Love them!!
Very Good. IF you don't have anger issues.
Honestly these may be better than some multi hundred dollar headphones ive bought. BUTTTTT, they aren't very strong. Throw em at the wall once, and next thing you know you are buying a new pair, but still worth.
Excellent Headphones
I have been using the AKG K240 headphones for the last seven years. They are reliable and can be used in broadcast and production. Even better is the fact that you can replace the wire that connects into the headset. I highly recommend them!!
Good Headphones For their level and price
Lightweight, large ear cups therefore very comfortable. The sound also seems less tiresome. Slightly less pronounced upper mid range but not to the point of sacrificing details , far from it ! I use the phones for learning guitar passages off a guitar trainer. Multiple passes at different speeds of Hendrix style music and I definitely noticed less fatigue compared to my old Sony with crumbling earpads. I also can hear what I play better even with both ear cups on being that they are semi open this also adds to comfort and details as opposed to one cup on and the other folded on the Sony's. Never had AKG before . Quality seems good for my purpose , only had them for 3 weeks.
Still listening since 1982
I bought mine in 1982 and still use them. Best sounding headphones, ever.
AKG K240 Studio Semi-open Pro Studio Headphones
These are still the only headphones I've heard that do not color the sound.
And they're... less than they used to be.
Still a Great Headphone
I didn't realize these are made in China now. Side by side, I can't tell a difference between these and my Austrian ones. They are still the best studio workhorse cans out there.
Bad cord
I would give this excellent sounding head phone a 5 rating but the cord is just terrible for longevity. God forbid you catch it on something pull it. A couple of time such as this and the cord is rendered useless. The 1/8 inch plug is quite susceptible to bending as well as cracking at both ends. A replacement cord will cost you a third of what you can get this set brand new. Should have come with a curled cord as its updated version, the K240MII does. However, it is an excellent headphone for the price especially at present. That being said, I may go the updated version soon.
One of my favorite headphones
I've been in the music business for over 35 years now... I've used too many headphones and mics in my life...
AKG K240 is one of my favorite headphones, because it is accurate and does not jar my ear like other famous brand do. It's great for recording and mixing.
I've purchased 3rd one already.
I LOVE IT.
AKG K240
I'm sure there are more expensive headphones that deliver better quality, but for the price, these things are awesome and do the trick! My mixes immedaitely got better!
I don't really like the 'screw in' 1/4" adapter, but I'm sure others do...
Perfect for electric guitar beginers
I got this headphones specifically for practice with my guitar at nights and Let me tell you guys that is incredible how I"ve enjoyed these headphones . I"ll recomended the AKG 240 for those people that are looking for something cheap with good quality and at same time I would like to thanks for those people that are behind Sweetwater.com giving us an excelent customer service.
Great headphones
For the money, these are really great phones. Nice fit, great sound, but between the sound and the deal I've had an all around great experience with this company so I'll rate them an 5 all round. The headphone are awesome. My sales guy Brock always got. Great deal great product
Not Semi-Open
I was attracted to these headphones because they claim to be "Semi-Open." That sounded perfect for my needs. I have tried open headphones, closed headphones, a Fishman Loudbox Artist as a monitor and back to closed headphones with a pencil behind my ear to let some sound in the can.
So I was excited about these. But these are not Semi-Open headphones. With all the holes 360 degrees around the gold circle you see, these are open headphones. Nothing resembling semi-closed about them. They function as open headphones.
Next time I play, I am going to put some tape over most of the holes. Perhaps that will make them useful.
What an extreme disappointment!
Very pleased
I am currently using them on the air as I type this. I love the sound!
Great headphones!
These headphones replaced my old Sony headphones ( MDR-V250). The Sony set was falling apart and had been for too long. When I plugged in my new AKG headphones I couldn't believe the expanded tonal range I was hearing! Another feature I love about these headphones is the long cord. It will come in handy. Much longer than what I'm used to. The only drawback I see to these headphones is that they really make my ears hot and sweaty, but then again, it is summer too.
Great sound quality
I bought these to listen to music on my IPad,earbuds just weren't giving me true sounds. I can hear things on songs now that I didn't even know we're there. I am amazed at the quality of these headphones. Since I am just using the headphones on an IPad, I can't believe the sound that these headphones would provide if they were used on a good quality stereo system. I didn't go wrong buying these amazing AKG K240 Studio Semi-open Pro Studio Headphones. Also,I always love doing business with Sweetwater,my Sales Engineer Nick LaMendola is great to work with and always checks up on me and my purchases.
Great
These are some great sounding cans and very comfy too. Can be worn for hours no problem. Can't be beat in this price range. Buy these with no reservations.
Great Sound
This is my first pair of semi open back headphones so I thought I would try the AKG K240. At first, while recording some percussion in the studio, I was unsure of the open back not being as closed in sounding, which is my preference for drum recording. After 30 minutes of playing and tweeting the effects on the drum brain module, I"m on a set of Alesia DX-10, I was pleasantly surprised by the clarity and crispness of these cans. I do however still love the closed back cans more, they seem to have a heavier bottom. These AKG cans work perfect for vocals and are extremely comfortable. These are a great deal at this price.
AKG K240 Studio Semi-Open Pro Sudio Headphones
Great headphones at a great price. Sound is as good as my phones costing 3 times as much. Sound is terrific at low volume and higher. Extremely comfortable, very minimal wear fatigue. Cool and airy due to semi-open design. These are great phones!
There Ok But has Short in the plugin
They are ok for sound of speech but after only a week the plug that goes into the head phones starts shorting out and really gets bad
if you buy these don't plan on moving around in a Recording Studios it will drive you nuts
if you had to buy a pair for other dj's to use this would be good for that, cheep and after a short time disposable like most things are now
AKG does make a great set.. I have them and great sound and no problems
so you get what you pay for.
AKG K240 Perfect studio companion.
Just perfect. Living on a budget these headphones blew me away. I"m finding them perfect for guitar work and mixing. I think I"m in love with AKG... next up is a set of closed backs for vocal work. I"ll be looking at AKG first.
K249
had to replace my Scarlett studio headphones. Scarlett studio headphones are way cleaner sounding
when mixing i cant hear 45Hz and lower
Great Quality
These headphones sound amazing, and they are very light. I will say however that sometimes my hair gets stuck in them, and they're pretty big so I can't hang them comfortably around my neck, and the input jack is pretty wide, so if I want to listen to music on my phone, I have to take my phone out of its case. But you know, other than that, these headphones are pretty awesome. Especially for the price, these are very high quality.
Great for extended listening; not for most tracking duties.
Very Nice
Very nice headphones for the price. Comfortable, and they sound fantastic.
Flyboy
Fantastic headphones, well worth the money and works great whether you are mixing or just playing the guitar they are great
Great Headphones
Sounds great for whatever you want to do. I use these for listening to movies in private through a home theater system and they perform flawlessly. These are comfortable and lightweight and are solidly built. Highly recommended.
AKG K240
Great for the price!
Practice in comfort
These headphones are very comfortable to wear while practicing my guitar. I wear hearing aids and I can use these without any problem or feedback. The quality is excellent as well as the sound. Very nice item.
AKG K240
I'm new to bass playing but not to quality stereo equipment - these headphones are great. Clean and articulate. I can hear every mistake I make :)
There's a reason they're a classic.
These headphones are great. Period. Perhaps there are some "better" but what does that mean anyway? The AKG K240's are a studio staple and for good reason. They sound great, are comfortable for extended periods of time, light weight, have great airflow so you aren't sweating through a session (in a bad, extra way) etc. And the fact that I picked them up for such a great price is that much nicer. I have a lot of different headphones in my studio, all of which cost more than these and the K240's are still my favorites.
An industry standard
These replaced a previous pair that lasted 15 years or so and never let me down during that time. Previous version did not have removable cable, so that is a plus for these.
great set of headphones
I HAVED OWNED MY AKG K240 HEADPHONES SINCE 1985 ,USED FOR STUDIO WORK AND STILL SOUND GREAT, I PAID THREE TIMES AS MUCH BACK THEN YOU WONT GO WRONG AT THIS PRICE!
Most Realistic Sound
It is a great reference headphones for mixing and even mastering.
It does not lie and represents the reality of your audio projects.
AKG K240 headphones
outstanding product... always get a deal at gearfest!
AKG K240 Headphones
Another one of my studio standards. Great for all recording artist in the mix.
AKG K240 Semi-open Headphones
These headphones are simply awesome. Sound great and true, and so very comfortable. I don't get "headphone fatigue," which is a big deal to me. Definitely recommend!
Great Classic Tools...
These are my favorite headphones to mix on. Just for reference I own several other pairs of headphones from 99 bucks all the way up to 400 dollars. These things tell you the truth. Get the mid range smooth on these and it will translate. Keep the high end in check, and it will be smooth as silk on other systems. Make sure the bass isn't rattling the cans, and it will be tight and punchy everywhere else. Seriously great, classic, studio tools. Also a blast to listen to for pleasure as well. Classic.
AKG K240 Studio Semi-open Headphones
Great headphones!!
It's a great piece of equipment to be used in a studio. I really liked it. These give very accurate results. They may sound a little bit fatiguing to many people, but these are made to sound what it actually is and not sound dramatically pleasing as they are pro headphones. The only problem that I got is that the thread with which the earcups were stitched, is coming out. But again, for the price range, they are probably the best studio headphones. Loved the way they look, in fact, many people actually came to me just to say that they look awesome. Really great if you are just starting out and want some inexpensive studio headphones.
Bang for buck
I am 56
ex sound engineer for touring bands in the 80's..
My sound system is quality, not noise..
Boston Acoustics, Receptor, "Clock Radio"
These headphones, just amaze me all the time, how..
Even with Youtube vids, the sound is tight..
Dont blow wanker money, on the Dr brand..
These headphones, will be used by your Grandkids..
I have slammed them, many a time..
Next day, yep, still crisp clear..

AKG Headphones
The fullness and quality of the sound coming from the headphones blows me away. I even use them when I don't have to because I live the richness I hear in everything I play. Thank you helping to select them! You're awesome.
Rugged and great sound
I've carried these everywhere clipped on the outside of my backpack for four or five years now and I love them. They're not great in noisy environments, but I knew that going into it. I'm amazed at how the cable and headphones have held up, being thrown around and bent out of shape whenever they get snagged on something, and exposed to water if it's raining. If you need some good monitoring phones for editing, these are the ones.
Chancer
My son loves it a lot!
Excellent Headphones
The AKG K240 headphones seemed the best option for playing guitar quietly via my amp, listening to music, and recording playback. They are awesome for all the above! I highly recommend these for all purpose musical uses. Excellent quality sound.
No sound stage
I had high hopes when I ordered these. They are no good for referencing at all. The instruments just sound crammed together. It's all high end. The lows are almost entirely missing. I want a nice even sound and these just don't have the ability to deliver it. One star for comfort.
AKG K240 open back studio headphones
This is the second pair of the AKG K240 studio headphones. I have one connected to my audio interface and the other to my Yamaha synthesizer keyboard. They are comfortable and they are not uncomfortable.
The coiled cable would be a nice addition so not be running over cable with roller chair.
Great frequency range!
Great frequency range and I wouldn't have any complaints but you really gotta crank the volume compared to other professional headphones. Maybe because it's like a hybrid of close black but great overall especially for the price.. very comfortable for long periods of use
Good product
Enjoying, complete studio now
K240 Phones
Great Headphones love them!
A KG k240
Comfortable to wear for extended periods. Excellent sound quality for the price
Sasquatch Approves
Never realized how big a melon I had until I found a set of headphones that fit correctly. The sound is everything I wanted and more than I expected. I use these for tracking in my home studio. The clarity is beyond belief. Never before has the sound quality of my equipment exposed how much more I need to practice than these headphones.
Love them.
Great Headphones - Value
Great headphones... say no more!
GREAT INVESTMENT
These headphones are just what I needed for recording AND mixing vocals. Due to them being semi open you might get bleeding into your mic BUT if you set your monitor levels just right it won't be a serious issue.. These are not that flat but they can give you a great mix if you know what you're doing
Great the second time as well
I liked these headphones so much, I bought a second pair. Great sound and comfortable. Sweetwater sweetened the deal by including a headphone hanger (mic stand mount) and 20' extension in a package deal. Love it.
AKG K240 headphonss
I really live these headphones, very comfortable sbd they sound great. For the price, cant be beat.
AKG K240
I have used these headphones for years. I had to purchase a new pair due to the dog eating the last pair I had. Still great sound excellent low end response. Very natural and neutral.
Excellent Headphones
I have wanted quality over the ear cans for a while. My grandfather used to listen to, and tape old jazz and big band shows every Saturday night, earphones on, taking notes on the songs and details; My uncle was a musicphile, had 10000 albums or more, and it was always “Listen to it with the ‘phones”. So, when I read the reviews of these, I got ‘em.
The sound quality is excellent. I can hear the full mix with these. They are comfortable and the self adjustment makes them fit perfect. I used to do a lot of editing work and these will make mixing sound so much easier
I wish the adjusting wire was metal and not plastic, I can see cracking it down the line, which is the only negative thus far
AKG K240
Very affordable, great quality headphones for studio or live playing....very comfortable...love em !
Good quality and price
No complaints, decent quality!
Recommended by Sweetwater,...
And I was not disappointed. They are not cheap but a good value for the price. Light weight and sounds good. seems to be a quality product, Fitzin to order a couple more.
Great sound, comfortable fit, light weight
Haven't had them long, but after a 4 hour stint they were still comfortable. True sound reproduction, accurate lows & highs. You could definitely do worse.
AKG K420
I work in radio where I record, edit and complete mix for customer ads as well as record & edit program cds for listeners. GREAT set of headphones. Eliminates all outside noise. They are light weight and do not hurt my ears. have been using an old set of Koss, that are heavy ad hurt. Will recommend this set.
Love these headphones
Love the sound of these. Comfortable. Great range. Much better than my Bose closed ear headphones...which to be fair are not designed for studios. These are crisp and clear across a large frequency range.
They do allow quite a bit of sound to escape at higher levels..with the quasi open design. Not to use in bed with the wife sleeping!
head phone assesment
very low volume and very cheep made. proving you get what you pay for. low price low quality
Excellent Headphones for the $
Owner of A & C Productions by Milks
I have now 3 AKG K240 headphones & I use them for editing all my projects I record.
AKG K240
Supposed to be here today. They arrived yesterday. (Perfect!)
They are so much smoother than my old Sens. No ice-pick what so ever.
Just a good all around set of cans!
Great for mixing
I bought these to replace an old set Iv'e had for 25 or so years.. These have been the "go to" cans for many pro engineers for years. They are great for getting a final mix together before going to your'e field monitors.. I usually find having to make very few changes after going to the reference monitors. They take the room out of the picture, which can be a problem if it's not tuned correctly which most home studios are not.. To many null and hot spots make it difficult to get a handle on low end frequencies in particular.. Putting a good set of "speakers" directly over your'e ears is the only real answer...
AKG K240
Great sound
Great for mixing
Best deal ever they work great for semi open backs, and the price for the package was outstanding, I am very pleased. My last pair I got in the early 80s if that tells you anything.
Excellent
Having used multitudinous headphones in my time as a musician and engineer, I was, at first, rather ambivalent toward these headphones. However, having ordered them, I am completely blown away by the combination of cost and quality.
These are, beyond a doubt, the flattest-sounding headphones I have ever used, and that, friends, is a good thing.
Great product
Enjoy them very much
THE Standard
These are the studio standard! I have mixed through these and not even needed to tweak the mix when I listened through speakers.
I just replaced my first pair that I got in 1989. They still work fine, but at this price, I couldn't resist replacing the 27 year-old beauties. That pair of phones have been on my head for literally ever take that I have ever recorded, no matter where I was or what instrument I was playing.
The quality and sound are exactly the same as they have always been, and the design has two small improvements.
This quality, at this price... just buy them!
AKG is an unimpeachable company and Sweetwater provides unmatched service.
Head phones
Very good quality. Very quick delivery.
Good, but there's probably better
I've been using the K240 model for the last 15 years as my go-to headphones for tracking and general purpose use. They seem to hold up pretty well to abuse, and I've always found them comfortable. Lately however, I've noticed differences in the loudness response of some of my older models vs newer models, an I've begun to retire the older ones. I've also noticed somewhat cheaper build quality of the new ones, most recently with the tension adjustment disk on one side of a set cracking after only minor use at my mix desk.
I'll probably upgrade to a better model with my next string of headphone replacements, but these really do hold a special place in terms of how I hear my projects.
AKG K240
great sounding headphones more so when your doing final mix down. i live in an apartment so it's hard to push your monitors without disturbing my neighbors. now when check out my cd in my car etc. they are dead on!!!!! Peace and Music.
AKG K240 Headphones
The AKG K240 Studio Semi-open Headphones are pretty good, and I did notice an improvement over what I I was using before. I think they will really help in my mixdowns.
Industry standard improved
Every studio I ever worked in had AKG 240s. I had a pair but someone stole them. At this price I couldn't resist replacing them. The new ones sound just as good as the legacy headphones. There is one improvement that I like a lot. Back in the day when I was an intern at a local studio I spent a lot of time soldering the wires that led to these headphones as they frequently came undone. The new improved models have a removable cable that clips on with a very well built connector. These headphones have a completely flat frequency response which which to hear what you're actually listening to
AKG K240 Headphones
A great set of headphones for the price.
ear buddies
These headphones are outstanding choice. Comfortable to wear isolated from outside noise. Best of all is you can repair these phones with spare ear pads cable and plags. They will last a lifetime.
Good head. Phone- room for hearing aides
The and are large enough that I cand wear my hearing aides when using the head phone. The hearing aides are Bluetooth so they are not as susceptible to feedback and that helps, but most headphone cans are too small to allow the hearings space to fit or work. This is my second pair of these I own, I got them for my bass player. I just replaced the cable on the older pair with the replaceable cord - a great feature. Being able to replace the cable and the pads at little cost and effort saves money and frustration. Oh, I didn't mention they sound great!
Standard
Standard equipment at Leo Laporte's TWIT.TV for staff and every weekend radio show. I've had them in my purchase radar for years after streaming his show and seeing him wear them, I know they are solidly made. Also doesn't hurt that My set were useless because of one tiny little plastic hinge piece that I couldn't replace or refab.to urge me to shop for a sturdy model.
This price was too good to skip even though cash was low.
Sing/songwriter's ears
I did not realize that listening to music is better with headphones. It was like being at a live show. I would suggest these headphones very much.
Thanks,
Paula Benson
Less Ear Fatigue = Better Mixes
I had been using the Sony MDR-7506's, which are fantastic headphones, but being a closed-back design meant ear fatigue became an issue after a relatively short amount of time. I had heard a lot about the AKG K240's over the years and how they were an industry standard. I decided to pick up a pair, and their clarity is great, their response is quite flat, and the semi-open back makes mixing over extended periods far less fatiguing on the ears. They are also quite light, but not cheap feeling, and they sit on the head very nicely. For the price, it's difficult to beat the value here.
you cant miss!
Forever fighting the battle for flat mixdown had me on the ropes. Solution, K240. I am just a home studio guy and these solved my issues. what you hear inside the K240, is what your material will sound like on sound systems set flat.
Great Phones!
I've had them for only about 3 weeks, but they sound very clear and give a very accurate sound. I can use them for critical listening without having to worry about the bass being too powerful (as they are semi-open headphones). For the price these are an excellent buy. They are comfortable to wear for extended periods of time. The only small drawback is that they do not have great sound isolation and noises from the surrounding easily leak into the phones. Just make sure your listening environment is relatively silent and you'll be good to go.
AKG K240
Great headphones for me!! Use for digital accordion ROLAND FR7 XB.
Great headphones, studio standard
I already have 3 of these. They are excellent studio headphones, even adequate for mixing if you are using a quality DAW such as LOGIC.
Lightweight and true sounding
I forget I'm wairing them. I like the fact that they give you such a true representation of information that you can do important mix downs when noise would be an issue. Since receiving these headphones I've been able to do mix downs and even a few preliminary masters Anytime I want. 3am sessions are cool but I hate not being able to crank my JBL's. But sense I purchased the AKG 's time is not an issue
I have yet to record vocals with them. I can't wait to see how loud I can crank them without bleed but it's cool either way because they're mostly for production and mix down.
Now I can't wait to get a $200.00 pair. Until then I'm 100% satisfied with these. AND I got 'em on sale.
Just Alright
I bought these on sale (luckily), the original price was much higher than what I paid. I had researched headphones and I settled on these ones because of the price and the looks. They are nothing special, just average sounding headphones. They do look very cool though.
Go to phones
I have been using these headphones since they were introduced. Detailed highs, full tight bass,
vocals sound as they should and the imaging is excellent. If you are looking for headphones definitely give these a try, you will not be disappointed. One thing that is important with certain headphones is listening fatigue, it is very subtle and can ruin your mix or listening experience, you may notice something is amiss but you just cannot put your finger on what it is, with these phones that will not happen. At this price they are a bargain.
AKG K240 Studio Semi-Open Headphones
These headphones were recommended by an audio technician friend as a good choice for a low price, and have stood the test of time. From the moment I first tried them I was impressed with the improvement in sound and comfort compared to my previous headphones. These are an excellent buy!
THESE ARE A GREAT BUY ESPECIALLY FOR 70 SMACKERS
I HAD A PAIR OF K240S SINCE THE 90'S BUT MY PIT-BULL USED THEM AS A CHEW TOY. SO AFTER MANY YEARS OF USING THE SONY 7506'S I TOOK ADVANTAGE OF THE 30 DOLLAR OFF SAVINGS AND BOUGHT THESE FOR 70 BUCKS. THEY ARE VERY COMFORTABLE AND I TRULY ENJOY THE SOUND BETTER THAN THE SONYS. I WAS ACTUALLY SHOCKED AND HAD TO COMPARE ALL MY MONITORING EQUIPMENT. I USE A PAIR OF KRK ROKIT6'S AND ALSO A PAIR OF KRK ROKIT 8'S AND I SO FAR I THINK I LIKE USING THESE BETTER FOR TRACKING THRU MY ELEVEN RACK7 8PREX AS WELL AS FOR MIXING AND MASTERING.
IM SURE THERE ARE BETTER DOMEPHONES OUT THERE BUT THESE WORK FOR ME IN MY PROJECT STUDIO. BUY THEM THEYRE GOOD
Buy Them!
I've had a pair of these for about 30 yrs now and they still are some of the best sounding 'phones I have ever heard, even with slightly worn ear pads. For about $70 bucks you really can't go wrong. You will spend a lot more before you hear a noticeable difference.
A Bit Fragile
I bought a pair of these cans based on their long-earned reputation of accuracy and comfort. They lived up to their reputation on these two counts. However, briefly after the warranty ran out, the sound went bad and the cause was a broken wire connection inside the right ear cup. I took it to a local shop for repair and the cost was 1/3 the cost of the headphones. I was happy again. But it wasn't long lived. After a few months, they broke again..in the same way....right in the middle of a job. The phones aren't made in Germany anymore...they're sourced in China. I've read in other locations that the quality dropped as a result. I cannot imagine these being studio standards if this durability is indicative.
Nice
This is my first pair of acutal pro headphones for mixing, but my first time using them I could see the difference from using my behringer's that are closed back headphones.
AKG 240 HEADPHONES
These headphones work really well for my tape to digital archiving project...sound great!
Better than my monitors!
I have a set of Roland MA-8's in my edit room, and these things sound even better than them. They're extremely comfortable, I can wear them for hours at a time. They're pretty bulky, so I carry them on the outside of my laptop bag, and they're a lot more durable than they look. I'd recommend them to anybody, especially for the price.
Great Headphones
Great Headphones very comfortable. Good price. Sound muds up a touch though. I believe that is because of them being semi closed.
Great sound for mixing, but tend to fall apart very easily.
I have always loved the sound of these particular headphones and have primarily used them for studio mixing, however, every pair I have ever owned (4 to be exact) have fallen apart within 1 to 2 years. Usually the plastic mold around the back of the ear-cup detaches and is a real pain trying to fix. I decided to move to the Audio Technica ATH M50 which is way more durable. It doesn't have the high end open response/sound like the Akg's, but it has lasted much longer and I've still been able to achieve great mixes using them.
Great sound at a good price
The sound is really good. When I first put them on to listen, at first, I thought I was still listening to sound coming through my speakers, Then I realized that lovely sound was coming through the headphones. The sound is much better than my old, closed-back headphones. The ear cups are full-size to cover your entire ear. The description on Sweetwater is borne out by the item I received.
Great Headphones especially for the price!!
Honestly as far as flat response goes and the price of these headphones I'm really impressed. They are great for house and studio mixing. I haven't yet used them as much as I will in-studio, but I have done some preliminary work with them and I am very impressed. I have already started a re-mastering project with them because of how they sound.
Overall great frequency response in my opinion.
Great
Fit Perfectly. Don't get uncomfortable so great for long sessions.
Sound: clear tops, bass is a bit lacking though but not enough to really warrant a bad review. A steal for the price.
What I wanted
I've been with AT headphones in my 7 years of hobbyist/student music time, and finally decided to switch to AKG. Man I wish I did it earlier...
Have only been using it with the Apogee one interface which I purchased at the same time so far, but it's easy to get used to and so comfortable, my AT ones are just lying somewhere right now.
Review of AKG K240
I am happy with this set of headphones. I have been using AKG K44's for about five years now, but I decided that it was time to get a new pair. I have used these phones to record. I was concerned about the noise-bleed into the microphone. They are semi-open so there is a little bit of bleeding, but I think it is worth the value in sound quality. I have owned these phones for a little over a month, but I have not used them for too many projects (I'm busy with work and school right now).
I like the 1/8 to 1/4 plug that comes with the phones. You have to screw it on and this prevents the plug from getting pulled out accidentally. The cord is really long also. It was a decent price and I am happy with my purchase.
Nice set of phones
Very nice set of phones for the price. I use a pair of Grado SR225s at home, and bought these for field use. As is typical of open back phones, they aren't the best for deep bass or sound isolation, but overall response sounds flat and very crisp. Physical construction is very good, as is comfort. They are very nice for long listening sessions.
Sound Quality, Comfort & Value
(3) New Headphones for my Private Studio which will make the other musicians that I record with very HAPPY!. Up to know I have been using a mix of various headphones, some wireless, others wired, mostly not very high quality. But now that is all behind for Studio Westside 88. These new AKG headphones sound great, are very comfortable and will improve the recording experience greatly.
pHONE tHEFT
These AKG phones are great and the sale price was phenomenal! More reasons to love Sweetwater.
AKG K240 Studio Headphones
I see why these are so popular in so many studios. AKG has made these phones highly affordable and extremely comfortable with a very nice sonic presence from top to botom. They sound really good and will not fatigue your ears...whether recording, mixing, or playing live, and that is what really counts for me.
Nice cans!
Purchased these at an awesome price to replace my 25 y.o. pair that were getting a bit worn. Not as nice as my K612 Pro's, but these still sound great.
Very Nice
The sound is very sweet. Not hyped or anything, just good. It sounds like the music is in the room with you.
Very nice
These are good semi open headphones. I already had a pair and at the sale price I felt I couldn't pass up getting a couple of more. They are very comfortable and have a nice airy sound quality with clear mids.
They don't have the bass that my Sennheisers have but still useful for mixing and some critical listening tasks or hooking up to the JamHub for late night rehearsals.
pro and con
Pro: very good sound, I like the cups enclosing my ears and the sound exclusion this accomplishes, dealings with Sweetwater personnel are first -rate
Con: heavy, hurts my neck to wear them for long, so I keep them handy for short periods of listening to something, very disappointed with this because I intended to use them more lengthily
AKG K240 Headphones - just what was needed.
After straining my ears in trying to understand what was said in various instructional videos and not being able to enjoy any music listened to through the terrible tiny speaker embedded in my computer, I can finally do those things by using these headphones. Excellent! Nice open and balanced sounds with a good range of tones. The representation of the bass is fine with me as is. I see no need for an amplifier, even though my computer is a bit lacking in terms of being able to fully power the K240s. These headphones are also very comfortable to wear. Enjoy them very much - thanks for the excellent service Sweetwater.
Anyone seen my head? Blown Away!
If your looking for professional headsets with a people price, these are the sets for you. These sound like their big brothers and have wide-range sound reproduction. The newly designed ear-cups are larger and are not as uncomfortable than the K141 Studio. Bang for buck here!! A must for any enthusiast and required by professionals. Awesome sound, with the Sweetwater style.
Reviewing so that Sweetwater will stop calling me
They're fine but a lot less high-end than my old Sony's.
Comfortable. Love the fact that it doesn't have a coiled cord.
Fantastic!
I've used AKG headphones for close to 30 years now - it's hard to believe it's been that long! My last pair stood by me for 22 of those years and only recently needed to be replaced. AKG have proven to me time and again that they are the 'phones I want and need.
Excellent sound and quality
The look and quality of these headphones are great, and they cover your ears completely instead of stitting on your ears. The sound quailty is pretty accurate and great for recording, the only con is the volume is much lower then my Sony pro 7506. For the price I would definetly recommend the headphones.
Review The AKG K240 Studio Semi-Open Headphones
The music and the instruments are heard well. The sound is crystal clear. What I hear is what comes out. That's what we call not lie because what we hear is what comes out of our work esn music.
I feel more than satisfied with the purchase and anyone who is looking for one I would recommend these that are inexpensive and are perfect for mastering and mixing music. With the purchase was good and if any do not regret buying them. They got the degree.
THANK YOU: LOOKING AHEAD TO BUYER WITH SINCERITY AND HONESTY.
WITH SINCERITY AND HONESTY: EDILGALLO
AKG K240 Headphones
Cant be beat for the price. I am very satisfied and sweetwater is pleasure to deal with. Thank you
First pair of professional
Way better than what I was expecting! They are really good at getting the low notes through without abandoning the high stuff! I really think I could not get better headphones without paying hundreds.
They Look Good and Sound Great!
This is the first time I have actually bought a professional-level set of phones and I was pleasantly surprised at the difference in quality of sound and comfort. I will never go back to the bargain phones again, although these phones were a real bargain in the quality they have versus the cost.
This is a sturdy, good-looking pair of phones that gives you the clarity and depth sound that you need for mixing or performing in the studio.
All day wearable
As a voice over artist, I wear headphones all day. The AKG K240's give me the sound I want and the comfort I need.
Decent Headphones
These headphones sound good. Just that, nothing incredible. I'm listening on my computer and iPhone to live and studio recordings. The lows and mids sound pretty good. On the other hand, the highs and crisp hi-hat/crash hits can be a bit brittle. Overall the sound inside the headphones is good for the money. The sound on the outside however, is a bit much. I understand these are semi-open back, but for recording vocals or even listening in a group of people, you can hear way too much of the sound on the outside.
will be sorry to see these old classics go
Fought getting a pair for a long time
Very Good
It was nice item great quality
K240 a great reference headset for home recording or live sound
Excellent for soloing channels in live sound for on the fly fixes/imprvements. Great for sampling/dubbing while recording in my home studio. I got my first pair as a gift in the '80s. I have purchased four more pairs for various live systems I have put together and now for another pair for my home studio. The semi open is really helpful for vocalists to reference thier own voice while dubbing tracks. Only downside is the inability to handle low frequncy SPLs with out distorting when volume is turned up.
The same as
When I uses the The AKG K240 Studio Headphone and to see if my EAW sound the the same. They sound great! When everybody so to bed I can use my The AKG K240 Studio Headphone at night time. The next morning I check the mix with the EAW speaker and they sound great!
Having to replace my favorite headphones
Great headphones
The mids and highs are very detailed and clear, more so when these headphones are properly amped.
They are extremely comfortable. I could wear them for hours and hours without a problem.
Imaging and sound stage are superb, they will get the job done as backup monitoring headphones. They do leak a bit of sound though, at least when not being worn. Compared to my open supra-aural Sennheiser HD238s they are even louder when taken off your head. Wearing them is a different story however and most of the sound is muffled with the K240s unlike my HD238s which are like wearing speakers on your ears.
My only issue with them is how little bass they have. I tend to find myself EQing up the lower frequencies to get them to sound how i like.
Love These Headphones
Sound Awesome, cumbersome to trasnport
My kids usurped my Bose noise cancellation and I expected these to be a temporary way to tide me over. But the sound is so articulate and clear, I am overjoyed. Only complaint is they don't come with a case to travel with or fold up for convenience. Since they are semi-open know that those in the immediate vicinity will hear something. But for the price, your ears will be happy.
There are better phones for my tastes
OK for some uses, such as casual listening or even on-air monitoring at a radio station (I've used the same or similar model in broadcasting), but lacking a bit of high end for my tastes. Overall, I prefer the Audio-Technica ATH-M40fx, the Sony 7506, and the Samson SR850. Your tastes may vary.
I love these headphones
Good headphones to use when mixing and recording vocals. I can hear every piece of sound clearly on these. Awesome.
AKG K 240 Studio Headphones
I have used this headphone for both radio broadcasting and music production. Bottom line...great! Wonderful freq. response and flat response.
For the money...can't beat it!!!
AKG K240 Studio Headphones
This is the first pair of professional studio headphones I have owned so I'm not to familiar with the competition. Overall I was blown away. They are very light compared to any other headphones I have worn and the sound is extremely clear. The only reason I didn't give it 5 was because I felt like the bass was a little lacking but I don't know if that is because of my sound card or the head phones. My monster in ear phones have a little more bass than these but I would rather wear these for long listening sessions.
Your Standard Workhorse Headphones
These headphones are the Yamaha NS10s of headphones. They are used in almost every studio as the 'go to' hp monitors for musicians and vocalists. Make the right choice and get these. You'll be glad you did
Some of the best headphones I've ever purchased
Completely fantastic. For the price, totally more than perfect. The semi-open style may not work for some people with certain projects, but as far as a personal pair for casual listening and the occasional mixing these are the best around.
Great Headphones for the Buck
My other Sony MDR V-6's gave up the ghost so I started the quest of finding a set of phones that were accurate, comfortable and NOT flat response. I tried the comparable Sennheiser phones and they were uncomfortable and heavy mid-range. Wayne, my Sweetwater agent, recommended the AKG K240 phones. I then remembered using AKGs many years ago in several recording studios and gave them a try. First thing I noticed was absolutely ZERO ear fatigue! Even after several hours use, it was like they were a part of me. Also they are extremely comfortable with great overall balance of frequencies.I mostly mix from monitors but these give a wonderful perspective of the overall mix. For the price, they can't be beat.
hooked on these headphones
Light, comfortable, with a warm, full sound. I love the AKG K 240 studio phones.
Reliability problem
I have been using four of AKG K240 at my studio. ( I do not remember from which store I bought them. ) After a few years of use, one lost cable connection and another one has unreliable connection. The sound quality is OK for the musicians to monitor their own sounds during their play. But, this is not suitable for monitoring mixing, because the frequency response is not good enough.
Stunning
I bought these last week to upgrade from a pair of Sennheiser HD 205s. WOW they are amazing. I love the flat sound. The acoustics are amazing! Get yourself a pair of these! =]
Mind Blowing Accuracy
1) Super flat frequency
2) Super comfortable
What more could you ask for in a pair of studio headphones? They're also cheap without being cheaply built!
Great for reference, Terrible for Tracking
These sound fantastic if you're in a quiet room. They sound natural due to their semi-open design, however this is also the source of its major problem.
These are NOT made for tracking. You WILL have scratch-track/click bleed through if you use these. Also, they tend to pull your hair out if you have long hair.
+ Sound Quality
- Click Bleed-through
- rips hair out
Just what I needed
My wife just purchased these for me for our anniversary. These are flat, dead flat, and that's amazing. For those times when im mixing late into the night I know I can slip these on and still get a great mix. I haven't tracked with them, and because of the open design there might be a little more bleed than closed headphones, but I haven't tried that yet. I highly recommend these to any one who wants to take that next step in gear and buy these, it is worth your money, and it will become a great reference for your mix.
there going back
I was grealty disappointed. If these are studio standard that explains all the over modulated recordings over the years. They are dead sounding. The sound nothing like a pair of monitors.
Beautiful Sound
I bought my first pair of AKG K 240's when I was 15. Since then, the improvement of the detachable cord makes it a 5-star product. Excellent range from lows to highs; the treble is the best I've heard in any headphones.
Excellent open headphones
The advantage of the open design is they are comfortable for long periods of time. The disadvantages are that you don't get much, if any, isolation and if you are working close to a mic, either working on your singing or doing radio announcing, they can feed back, especially if you turn your head, perhaps to queue a cd.
So if you need to work close to a mic or if you need to be able to hear a mix in a loud room - recording a live band for example - I recommend the Sennheiser HD280 pro which gives you 30db of isolation.
There is a lot to be said for having a pair of each. The AKGs clearly win on comfort. You can easily forget you have them on - just as well they stand up to abuse. Both have excellent, though somewhat different, sound.
Caution
Okay sound for the price but both pairs I bought shorted out at the plug with very little use. I replaced with Sony 7506, same price, better match with my monitors and much more durable. I won't buy these AKG again.
The best sound and the most comfortable!
Wow! These have the best sound of any pair of headphones I've ever used. At first I thought the flat sound might be boring to mix and listen to with, but now I'm enjoying music like never before. Also, when i went to Sweetwater, they had a pair of these in each of there recording rooms, so you know they're great. Now that these are $100, they beat all of the other ones of the same price, so why look any further? also these are probably the most comfortable headphones out there. Way better than my last pair of sennheiser phones, that's for sure. I will never buy a different pair ever again.
For over 20 years k 240 have served me well.
The AKG k 240 headphones are truly outstanding! Have used them as a dj for a radio station since the late 80's. The skinny cable I have run over dozens of times with the chairs and they still work as well as the day I bought them. In fact, the price today is cheaper than what I paid over 20 years ago. Very warm sounding and comfortable. One thing, I do have to turn up the 'headphone volume' alot higher than the cheaper Sennheiser headphones the radio station uses. Not sure if this is an impedance thing, or my ears because of my advanced age. Would highly endorse these headphones to anyone looking for long lasting and great sound. Looking for an excuse to buy a new pair, but these babys still work like a charm.
The Best of the Best
The 240s were my first official studio headphones and since the onslaught of new phones, I went out and purchased several other brands that were good but none are as good as these. The 240s are light and comfortable. They also sound the most true to the source. Theres a reason these phones are still around...
Quality without sacrificing the Benjamins
These were my first pair of "professional" headphones and ever since then I have been an AKG headphone fan. If you are looking for quality under $100, these are it. Sony's to me are a bit bass heavy, and Sennheisers are top heavy, these are just right. Only drawback is for certain soundcards and ipods they don't get loud enough. One may need a headphone amp or a soundcard with proper monitor levels. Overall though a great buy.
Good Mix Translation
For "Listening" these things are exciting. You'll notice very subtle details, pan effects, hidden doubling and delays etc. that you never noticed before in songs youve heard thousands of times.
For "Mixing" I dont have a WELL Treated room and i find that if my MONITOR mixes arent translating to the car very well, Ill go back and use these to tweak the mix and its always just extremely accurate. I even started doing most of the mix on these cans and making minor modifications on the Mackies.
BUT DONT LET ANYONE SEE YOU WEARING THESE, THEYRE MONSTROUS
Mix killer... don't believe the hype
Comfortable, Good Sound, Affordable
This is my third pair of AKG K-240s. I like the way they fit (not too tight, not too heavy), I like the way they sound (accent on bass, decent mids, good enough highs), and I like the new Sweetwater price.
For the same money, I think my Sennheiser HD 280 Pro sounds a lot better, but it fits way too tight for me to wear for long periods.
When I want to concentrate on sound, I'll listen to my HD 280 Pro. When I want to relax and enjoy the music, I'll wear my AKG K-240 Studio.
Very Good, So Far
I almost gave them a 4.0 because of ear fatigue. Sound quality is great. I can hear most every nuance of sound clearly. Actually every nuance. I love them every minute I monitor music through them. However after an hour and a half or so I need to set them down for a few minutes because I start to notice major ear fatigue and need to take a break. So they're great, & most people might not experience this fatigue. I still advise everyone to own a pair of these.
K 240
My land, these are phenominal! I'm getting a better reference of my mixes on these than on my monitors.
They are so light and comfortable, that I often forget I have them on.
By far, the best pair of headphones I've ever worn.
The only downside is that the cord is long enough that I ,unaware of it, end up tangeling my leg or my chair up with it. So when I move, it crashes onto a brick floor. That has probably happened more often than the times I've put the phones on my head.
BUT, the best part is, they just keep on working like normall. They must be built like a tank!
So, I'll work on not triping on these. I have room for improvement. But I honestly don't see how the AKG K240's could be improved.
So Detailed, So Smooth
These Phones are F"ing Amazing. They are so detailed, all of the sudden I can hear Tiny TINY nuances ive never heard before in songs ive listened to a thousand times. On the same tip, they show me little imperfections in my vocal tracks that I WOULD NOT have noticed on my monitors. GREAT GREAT!.
ALSO
I'VE RUN OVER THE CORD WITH MY STUDIO CHAIR 30 TIMES AT LEAST AND DROPPED EM HALF A DOZEN TIMES AND THEY SOUND AS MAGICAL AS EVER.
BEST HEADPHONES for the money...
I'm sure you could spend more (lets face it; A LOT More) and get better, but why? Besides being studio standards, and the sonic clarity of these headphones... My first reactions were of COMFORT! As soon as I put these on and experienced the 'Self-adjusting headband' I just new these would be very comfortable... and sure enough after a few hours in the studio my initial reaction was confirmed. They are just so light and the way they fit over your ears, you hardly even know they are on, and I'm sure they would fit most everyone the same. If your looking for great headphones GET THESE!!
One of the best for over two decades
I purchased my first two pairs of K240s back in 1985 for a small studio. Even with all the changes in technology since then, these are still one of the best in the market . Audio detail, frequency response, and accuracy compare to headphones costing much more. I've owned and used Sony, Sennheiser, Grado, and other brands over the years, and I still use the 240's on a regular basis. One other thing, last year I was easily able to purchase replacement parts for those same 20 year old 240's from AKG. Talk about product support! Try doing that with some other vendors!
Bought and calmed down
Didn't give it 5 - there are some better ones. Well, maybe :) But I'am completely satisfied with this amazing product. Superb detailed sound, it's tat honest, that sometimes I start to dislike some records I've enjoyed before because of finding some crappy moments :) Every time I put them on the world of people is blown away. It's time for music. Nothing else.
Five stars for the AKG
As far as I know these have been a staple in any large commercial studio for the past 10 years. Exceptionally good frequency response goes down to 15 Hz and up to 25 kHz, now I am able to hear sonic detail that I didn't even know existed in my CDs and recordings. These are intended to be used professionally with good equipment and have a balanced TRS cable, so if you are someone who will use them on a Walkman just don't even bother. These things have to be used with state-of-the art studio facilities, this is where they belong. Putting them on a walkman or mp3 player is a waste of time since these devices don't even have the full frequency response for the headphones to reveal what they can do.
