Perfect For Live Performance

By Todd M. from Spring Green, WI
Music Background: Playing live off and on since 1973. Primarily acoustic and electric guitar.

I had a Crumar Orchestrator in the eighties along with a Farfisa organ, a Casio in the oughts and teens, and now the Roland Juno D7. The Crumar cost about the same as the Juno D7 costs now. All that old stuff wore out or was sold for peanuts. I don't anticipate that this time.

I've been impressed seeing how this technology has progressed. I was nervous getting this after four months of watching videos and reading reviews with no area music stores having one in stock. Not hearing instruments in person can lead to false expectations. I needed someone I could trust, so Sweetwater got my business.

This is the BEST keyboard I've ever owned. Not top of the line, but when you're setting up live and running sets it's incredibly easy to use. No huge volume fluctuations when switching voices (which Roland now calls scenes, especially when combining voices). It takes a bit to get the hang of it, but compared to being overwhelmed with technicalities and giving up it's a breeze. There's help online for some of the questions.

But here's the thing. The band and I are just getting started using this, and it's already fulfilled and exceeded my expectations. I picked up Mackie Thump powered speaker and could groove for hours. Cathartic and exciting at the same time. Affordable great tone, lots of options and usable. Looking forward to discovering more.

Thanks Roland and Sweetwater!

Keyboardist for local central coast band

By dennis e. from CA
Music Background: Band and church musician since the 70s...Grand piano at church..sometimes the D7 with Praise band

I was looking for something lighter than my MOX-F8 beast, which has some great sounds, but too heavy to carry and set up.. I looked for a 76-key keyboard, and since always liking the Roland sounds, went with the Juno-D7. The action is of course lighter, but since playing various keyboards since the 80s, it was easy to get used to...plenty of sounds, and those great Roland band/piano sounds, found what I needed and played a 6-piece band gig using an eon 712 at a winery gig...will use 2 of them for stereo later. Good lead and blues organ sounds!

Great board

By Peter from Bradford, MA
Music Background: Musician,Stu’s

Let's see….Roland's greatest hits, past and present. Every single sound you can think of, and then some. Organs need work, but if you put them through the VS rotary, you can make it about 90% better. The key bed from the fantom is awesome, much better than the Juno DS or VR 09. I love the sketch pad sequencer, just wish there was 128 or 256 steps. However, for jamming or throwing around ideas, it is unbeatable. It's like having a bunch of virtual synths and pianos in one keyboard that you can haul around. And since everything is saved as a scene, programming any gig is a piece of cake. Also, no drummer, no problem! You can program a beat to jam to in seconds. My only recommendation is if you're a piano player, get the weighted action 88 key version. It definitely helps to get the most out of the piano sounds.

Almost Perfect

By Bob C. from NY
Music Background: Tech

This is a great grab and go gigging board.... The sounds are adequate and seem to sit well in the mix. The keybed is far better that the one used in the DS 76 and is a joy to play on. The synth sounds are where this unit really shines, they did a very nice job with the Roland synth library in this instrument. The display is a lot easier to deal with than the DS as well... Now, only if they had included an onboard set list manager (something that goes beyond the favorites list).... And could really use a full featured outboard editor / librarian to manage setups. Other then that, this has quite a lot of bang for the buck... Almost nailed it !!!!

Great Keyboard

By Monchito from Python Ville

Being a Church Musician for many years had the privilege to use various keyboards Roland Yamaha Korg Studiologic Nord I tend to try to use the sounds that best fits what I am playing mostly pianos e pianos and pads and some organ for worship plus i use mainstage also, there are times that the bass player might not show up, so I needed to be able to whip up some sounds well I have been using the D7 since it came out and I have to say it's been a great keyboard especially with the newer firmware has made it a lot easier to be able to control each part separately which is great and adding it to a scene is a plus. With the zencore engine 256 polyphony 3,500 there is more than enough to play with plus the ability to add more not bad at all...
