Lovely Beginner Bass

By Logan Rasmussen from Apple Valley, MN on May 27, 2022

It works great and I have had no issues in the 5 months since I bought it.

Great bass!

For the price it's hard to beat the value of this bass. The Charcoal Frost Metallic finish is beautiful and mine was flawless out of the box. The neck on these has a satin finish which I prefer to the heavily lacquered CV necks. The tuners feel cheap (and for this price they have to be), but they hold tune very well. The pick ups and electronics sound pretty good; not as good as my American Fender basses, but at this price would you expect them to? I was really pleasantly surprised by the Indian Laurel fretboard. I am personally really not a fan of the Pau Ferro boards on the Mexican Fenders, and to me, the Laurel feels more like Rosewood, which I love.

I've only had this bass a few weeks, so I can't speak to the longevity of it, but I highly recommend this bass to anyone just starting out, as a great back up, or for a guitar player wanting to add bass to their arsenal. Plus Ben and Sweetwater were amazing as always!

Best bass

Starter Bass

I've been playing guitar for about 20 years now and thought it was time to dip my toes into bass just to see what all the fuss was about. I've got this and a Fender Rumble 40 I got off of Reverb and it sounds great to me. Again, I'm a beginner, so providing an accurate critique as compared to other basses I'm not able to do. But when compared to "fit and finish" and "build quality" of electric guitars, it seems great to me. Would definitely recommend for other beginners.

Great bass to start your bass journey

Bought this bass to start learning bass and you can't go wrong with this or a Precision Bass. I'd really recommend getting a setup with it since it'll make playing way easier. Anywhere between 4/64 - 5/64 string height should be fine. Besides the setup I did I cleaned the frets and fretboard, installed a new bridge, and sanded the neck for smoother playing. Plays like butter.

Good setup.

Ok? I am not sure!

This is my first jazz bass. Price was the key point buying this bass. I was not expecting the best for sure. Build quality is pretty good for the price. I like the sound. But the action is disasterous. Strings are too high. 5 minutes playing gets you hand cramps. Worst playeblity i have seen. I will go a local shop to see if they can make a good adjustment. Obviously the manufacturer and the sweetwater don't want to waste time doing a acceptable action adjustment. Other than that it is a nice bass for the price. I would go four stars if playebility was acceptable.
