Squier Vintage Modified Jazzmaster Special - 2-Tone Sunburst Reviews

Solidbody Electric Guitar with Alder Body, Maple Neck, Maple Fretboard, and 2 Single-coil Pickups - 2-Color Sunburst

You might see "Jazz" in its name, but the legendary Jazzmaster has never, ever been a one-trick-pony. Squier proves it all over again with the Vintage Modified Jazzmaster, a hot-rodded take on the classic Fender design. You'll appreciate the unique top-loading hardtail bridge, which gives you rock-solid sustain and reliable tuning. And the custom Duncan Designed single-coil Jazzmaster pickups make way for everything from glassy smooth tones to all-out jangly crunch. When you play a Squier Vintage Modified Jazzmaster, you're tapping into a legacy of original guitar tone!

Candy Apple Christmas present!

By CJ B. from United States
Music Background: 45 year hobbyist

I must first complement Sweetwater for their excellent customer service. The guitar arrived in perfect condition, well packaged, and had been given a good basic set-up. I played it for a while to ensure everything was working properly, then decided to set the guitar up to my liking.
The frets were nice and level, so I took some relief out of the neck, and lowered the bridge a little...this guitar dialed in perfectly, with no adjustments needed to the nut, no high frets, no problems whatsoever!
I build guitars, and must admit that in this price range, I cannot compete! If you are looking for a good guitar for a starting player, or a gigging guitar that you don't have to fuss over...here it is!
Why not a "5"? Electronics...the switches are not top of the line, some scratchiness, and a tendency not to connect sometimes...I'll investigate during the first string change.
Tone and sonic versatility are adequate in this design...it takes premium wood, and high-quality electronics to go beyond what Fender has done with this guitar, which is an amazing value in this price range.

$299 for a high quality Jazzmaster guitar! STOKED...

By Jon W. from Albany, GA, USA
Music Background: varies

It is absolutely absurd, ridiculous, even CRIMINAL, that you can buy a guitar of this level of quality for only $299. The guitar arrived INTONATED, there was 1 pickguard screw missing, all switches worked, and all of the rhythm and lead settings sound awesome. Even the fret ends are finished. The Indonesian factory must have the absolute best trained workers on Earth. This is my third guitar I've purchased in the Vintage Modified Series. Though impressed with my Jagmaster and Telecaster Special, of same brand and series, the Jazzmaster takes it to the next level. I'd happily pay $500 for another one if I knew it would be of the same quality.

Squier Vintage Modified Jazzmaster

By Brad W. from Newman, IL
Music Background: Audio engineer, musician

This guitar really rocks. The pickups provide lots of punch & variety when playing with tone knob. Love the body style & weight. The neck is the sweetest I've played, smooth & fast. Great action. I like the c-shape & rounded fretboard. Fits my hands perfectly. Only 1 issue, the high e string saddle was missing a hex screw when it arrived. Not sure why. All in all, a great guitar for the price.

Great guitar for the price!

By Taylor H. from Bellingham, WA
Music Background: Hobbyist, Home Recordist, Producer, Gigging Musician

It arrived with both knobs loose. Luckily it also came with the little allen wrench which was instantly handy. After some fixing, I plugged it in and ran it clean with my monitors up pretty loud. Wow. What a clean, warm, and QUIET sound. I was very impressed. In my opinion, the volume and tone knobs are pretty worthless, but the pickup switch gives three top-notch options as long as everything is turned up all the way. A slight touch to a volume knob and it the sound will vanish instantly, no in-betweens.

The sound is why I rated it so highly. It's amazing...really. For the price you would be hard pressed to get a cleaner, more distinctive "Fender" sound at this price. It's heavy, gorgeous, and the neck feels really good. So far (a few weeks), I've only tuned it a couple times, but it does have some trouble with the B, as do all guitars in this range.

It's a steal, if you know what you're looking for.

If your even thinking about it, buy it

By TimC from Charlotte, NC
Music Background: Long-time Hobbyist/Amateur

Body finish perfect. Neck slick, shiny, and straight. Fret dressing up to Fender's usual standard. Tint on neck and parchment guard give a vintage look. Duncan pickups sound better than the ones on my AVRI. Brighter, but just as nice as the Duncan Custom ones I put in my Japanese JM. Between a Strat and a P90. Bridge gives great sustain, like a Tele. Intonation and action were fine right out of the box. Concentric controls give 4-knob performance without taking alot of space. A keeper. See offset guitars forum on how to route for standard JM trem, if desired. Sweetwater service top-notch. Really, take t out of the box, tune it, and play!

Jazzmaster's have a long History in my life.

By Charlie from Ft. Lauderdale, FL.
Music Background: Playing for now over 50 years. Loved being in the Beatles era as a teenager, We actually took 2nd place in the battle of the bands when we played "Rain" & "Paperback Writer" in the contest after the first week it came out.

I bought my 1965 Jazzmaster new and later a friend that passed left me his 1961 Jazzmaster. Well unfortunately I had to sell them and a few others. Then I see this Vintage Squire with Duncan Designed pups, and Sunburst with a Maple fingerboard for $299. I had a birthday coming first thought about it but asked my wife to forget about it and I own 24 guitars already, But I get up the day of my Birthday and there it was in my computer chair.Knowing it was Indonesean made, I was afraid that it couldn't be any good and may need a lot of work. To my suprise, I did a normal set-up like I do on every guitar I have ever owned. I am pleasantly suprised. It plays and sounds great. I did all the Ventures and Beach Boys tunes and the tears were going down my face. Is it like my old Fenders? Of course not, but you will not find a better $299 Jazzmaster anywhere. Treat yourself to a very fine guitar. None better at over twice the price.
