Amazing Mutant!

By Rattoo from El Cajon, CA
Music Background: Experienced

First, I never give 5's. I always leave room for the impossible perfect guitar. I bought this on sale. I was not optimistic, and planned to replace all pickups. I also assumed I would have to pay my Tech for a complete set-up, as with many of my new Fenders.

The guitar arrived with a good set-up. Sweetwater is usually good abut this. The finish is impeccable. As good as my new American Jag. The neck and action are very nice. I owned a '60s era Mustang and bought a newer reissue. I also own several Jags and Jazzmasters. This guitar compares favorably with all. It certainly does not have a traditional Jag sound, but it is versatile. It has a sound between a Strat, a Tele, and Jag. Rock, Blues and almost Surf. Clean is acceptable, but it is best with overdrive. Of course, it is not a metal guitar. I am afraid to change anything. I do not want to lose any of the tone or action. This guitar is unique and excellent. I have not gigged with it yet, but I am sure it will perform well. One of my best Mexican guitars. Better than some of my American Fenders. Good value.

great tones for low price

By Frank from West Virginia
Music Background: Hobbyist

This fender should have been in the original lineup. Anyways, out of the box I tuned and the set up was great. I play the Blues and Rock and love to solo and I got the tones out of it. I will place a Push pull to get additional tones from a wider spectrum. I recomend to anyone from beginner to experienced musician.

Strato-Jag of pure AWESOMENESS!

By Jovy from Vienna, VA
Music Background: Hobbyist

For the past year, I have been testing and buying a number of Jaguars from the Blacktop P90 Series and the Classic Player Jaguar. I found this concept very interesting because it looks like a Strat but does not play like a Strat. First of all, it has more bass and treble it rumbles hard when you turn up the gain. Second, the pick up from Tone lever 1, 2 and 3 sounds like a Strat with more "oomph," because the way the pick ups were turned give it that nice roar. Here is the best part of the Jag the 4 and 5: the Atomic Humbucker worked really well it has this nice crunch with a slight twack (twang and quack together) on the 4th lever and the 5th lever its juicy and crunchy bridge that worked unbelievably well! The neck is short and easy to maneuver for all the Stratocaster players. The guitar is so much to play. I can still play a little grunge, blues, rock and everything in between. You can also Mod this guitar anyway you like! But, I highly suggest to leave the standard coils and atomic hum bucker their perfect. So, if you are looking to impress the crowd with weird guitar or just something fast and playable look no further this guitar is pure AWESOMENESS!

This is a funky little guitar!

By Dave from New York
Music Background: Former occasional gigging musician, now just a home studio guy

Don't let the pickup config fool you - this thing is nowhere near as sweet sounding as a SSH Strat, and that's a good thing (I have Strats for when that's what I want!) These pickups are tweaked up pretty hot, and have a fair bit of spank. You are not getting any "cream soda" David Gilmour sounds out of this thing, that's for sure! I am having a blast with it though. Loving the short scale, and (for me) the setting in between the middle and bridge pickup is just gorgeous. Also the simplicity of the controls (as opposed to a regular Jag) are a welcome sigh of relief. I have one beef -- and one beef alone. When you play it hard or hit a big bend, you can get a fair bit of saddle buzz (notorious Jaguar bridge problem.) If this guitar came in a hardtail, it'd be 5 star for sure.

Also, it is just a beautiful guitar. Super playable, too.

Extremely comfortable, looks great, sounds great. May need a set-up after purchase, but besides that, it's lots of fun.
