A great base to build from

By Shonie Delarosa from Kayenta, AZ on March 19, 2024

I bought mine back in 2013. I redid all the innards. Cloth wiring, upgraded CTS pot, genuine Fender switches and brass plates, caps, etc. Topped it all off with a set of "REAL" 1965 Jaguar pups. This thing is a monster and I'm completely in love with it!

ABSOLUTELY IN LOVE WITH THIS JAGUAR!

By Michael from LA on December 8, 2023 Music Background: 15 years

This is 1 of 5 Squire Classic Vibes I currently own and this is definitely a favorite. I also have a J Mascis Jazzmaster, Starcaster, Thinline 60's Telecaster, and a Competition Mustang as well. These are great guitars. Especially for the money! I love the Jaguar controls. The rhythm and lead circuits are genius. The 24" scales makes certain chords and fret stretches much easier than the standard 25-1/2" scale. This is a keeper for sure! Fit and finish flawless. I just can't see spending so much more for a Fender when these are so good.

This is now my #1 guitar

By Kevin McGowan on January 19, 2023

I have an American Standard tele from 1996 and a Gretsch Tennessee Rose from 2003. When I bought the Squier I also had a Ric 360. Those are all beautiful guitars, but I ended up selling the Ric because I never touched it anymore after getting the Jag and I'll probably sell the Gretsch too. This Squire guitar is gorgeous and plays like a dream. I did have to shim the neck 1º and I replced the tremolo with an AVRI (because I wanted the stability of a lock and the Squire-provided trem is noisy). With that minor investment in time and materials (which I felt completely confident doing because this guitar was so affordable!) it's now nicer than my $2,000+ guitars. I love it. It can do anything I can think of. It's like being a kid and suddenly having the box of 120 crayons with a sharpener.

Great Mod Platform with Fender Specs

By Scott Williams from FL on July 13, 2022 Music Background: Year One Guitar Player :D

The Jag out of the box was nice. Classic 70's styling and circuitry. I took mine to the next level though. I replaced the bridge with a Mustang bridge for better adjustability. I added a a Fender string mute. I replaced the tremolo with a Fender branded tremolo. I also replaced the torty pick guard with a mint green one. I replaced the black knobs with aged white to match the pickups. Oh yeah, the pickups... replaced those as well. I went with EP Custom Pickups, their vintage '62 Jaguar model with aged white cover. I also replaced the entire wiring harness with a 920D Jaguar Vintage harness with 1000k pots. It adds so much tone variation! Lastly I copper shielded the cavities. I took all this to my local luthier and he worked his magic. He put 10's on it. It is now a completely different guitar now. He swears it sounds better than a Fender Custom Shop build. I have to get used to the 9.5" radius (I'm used to 12") but other than that I LOVE this guitar.

Simply Amazing

By Sweetwater Customer from NE on May 25, 2022

Straight out of the box this guitar was ready to go. Super easy to play with the thin, shorter neck. The contours of the guitar make it very comfortable and the tone is amazing!

I highly recommend this guitar especially if you want an excellent quality Jag without the hefty price tag.

I bought this guitar for my daughter's 21st Birthday as she specifically requested this guitar in this color and setup. She is super stoked and now I want one too!

Great guitar for a squire

By Joey T from Oregon on February 27, 2022 Music Background: I been playing since I was 15. Self taught. I'm not limited by "what should be" and go by what sounds good.

I recently purchased this guitar. I was a little reluctant to get it but I'm so happy I did. It came fully playable no problems at all. The tall, thin frets make it easy for quick play. The single coils are great for a low warm fuzz or a nice crunchy growl. The vintage feel fits perfect for this guitar. The "tone cut" switch is alright but I can't see myself using much since it cuts the low end and quiets the guitar during play. But it does allow a lil more customization in tone. Love all the quick switches which make it great to for lead or rhythm or a quick switch between both. All in all this is a great guitar I'm happy I took the chance on and purchased.

Totally worth it!

By Commish from NH on January 16, 2022 Music Background: Pro

I love these Indonesia-made guitars. I also have a Squier Telecaster classic vibe guitar that I love - especially the neck. As an owner of Fender, Gibson, G&L, and Music Man electric guitars, I find myself pulling out my Squier Tele quite often and this mutli-faceted Jaguar is no exception. Well-made with Fender-quality control, it's worth every penny.

Squire Jaguar For The Classic Surf Sound

By JDV from Northeast on October 2, 2021 Music Background: Novice Hobby Player

Bought this one straight from Dave at Sweetwater. Setup was perfect. Amazing quality for the price paid. The only thing I did was change the pickguard to one in white and put on 10 strings. I play it through my Fender Vibro Champ with a TC Electronics Drip box and I can get close to the classic surf sound. I have been a Sweetwater customer for years, clearly the best place to purchase any musical items.

the best guitar i've ever played

By phoenix on April 6, 2021

serendipitously i found this guitar in a local second-hand music store; i found the feel and sound that i was looking for. the functionality of the controls and hardware are sublime, this jag has done everything i've asked of it. i did have to install a 0.5deg neck shim to correct action / bridge break angle, and i chose to put in a ceramic treble bleed on the lead circuit's volume pot (because now vol -= vol, not vol -= vol & tone.) i named her Jess, and she and i have played great gigs together. i'm looking forward to the future with this Jaguar, because i finally hear my voice and my music become one.

Squier Classic Vibe '70s Jaguar - Surf Green

By David from Massachusetts on October 16, 2020

What can I say that hasn't been already said in the previous reviews. The quality and craftsmanship of this guitar is rather outstanding considering two things, one is a Squire and two it's under $... I've had the guitar for a little over a week now and I must say right out of the box it truly played 100% fine, thanks to Sweetwater's 55 point inspection all I had to do was unboxed it, tune it and away I went.

Overall I am extremely happy with my purchase. If you are on the fence about getting this guitar I highly urge you to go for it, pull the trigger you will not be disappointed.

My sales engineer Logan Miller has sold me countless guitars. I have always and will always ask for him.
Logan Miller is by far the best sales engineer Sweetwater has. The man is a wealth of knowledge. I always know that if I have a question about any of my gear I don't have to go to google, and I don't have to go to YouTube. I just simply go to Logan. Time and time again he has help me with any issues that I have had.

Light Years Ahead of Old Squier Models

By Glenn King from Florida on January 10, 2020 Music Background: Over 40 years.

I was waiting for this order to come so I went into my local music store to look at some books. Much to my surprise I saw a Squier Jaguar, which I new was coming for me today. It was used and I was told it was from the 90s. The guitar in the store greatly disappointed me. It made me a bit nervous about receiving today but I knew it wasn't the same really. When I opened and played the new Sweetwater Squier Jaguar I was astonished about how much better an instrument this is. In every area of measurement this 70's version rules. The surf green and the dark pickguard is absolutely perfect looking. When I plugged it in and adjusted the buttons, there is was, the classic sound that no Strat or Les Paul can touch.

Tim Burgess my Sales Engineer was as always extremely helpful and if you don't already have one I highly recommend getting Tim Burgess as yours.

Great Guitar From A Great Distributor

By John Z on December 9, 2019 Music Background: Play lead and rhythm guitar for over 55 years doing country, rock and blues. Currently in two bands and having a wonderful time!

A lot of guitars I have bought online have been from other dealers - my surf green Squier Jaguar is the first from Sweetwater, and I will only buy from them in the future. Talk about attention to detail! I do not believe any other dealer goes to the lengths Sweetwater does to ensure customer satisfaction. From being able to select your own instrument by photo and serial number, to the thorough inspection, then to the way in which the product is packed for shipping puts these guys light years ahead of any other dealer I have purchased from.

As for the guitar, all I can say is wow! The quality is outstanding. The finish is flawless, the neck straight with the appropriate bow, and thanks to Sweetwater's inspection, intonation and action were right on. The guitar sounds wonderful - it will take me some time to master all of the controls, but the versatility of this guitar looks like it can be used for most all styles of music. I've been playing for over 55 years and have overlooked the Jaguar because of its shorter 24" scale, but I find it very comfortable and conducive to fast riffs.

Lovely guitar that feels and sounds even better than it looks

By Steve Meiers from East Bay, NorCal, USA on September 4, 2019 Music Background: Folkadelic garage

I am very impressed with the build, playability, and tone quality of this... guitar. It screams kowabunga right into your fingers and purrs like a 400 pound puddy-tat in your lap when you finger pick it. It begs for surf licks and cow punk chops. And that long arm-de-Twang that puts the pulse of the waves at your beg and call is awesome. This instrument gets other guitarists drooling to touch it. You will here "May I?" frequently. Even in its peutrid regurgitated car wreck surf green, which has grown on me, it is sheer beauty in design, form and function. A bit on the heavy side, I think the weight helps is tone and provides a solid basis for riffing and chopping. As a lifelong Gibson dude, this easily aggrivated slumbering gentle giant fills a gaping hole in my small herd of guitars so well that I've been grabbing it first when it's time to play. It's just really, really fun to play and that's what playing should be, fun. This Big Kitty is equally at home in any gerne, IMO All that FUN at such an affordable price.
The only gotcha is that the lovely Jag is slightly larger than its sibling Strat and will NOT fit in their cases or gig bags. You can expect to pay a bit more for the oversized cases and gig bags. A bundle is the way to go, if you can find it. Expect to pay... for an HSC though.

I love this guitar!

By Randy Tate from Louisville, KY on August 5, 2019 Music Background: Very experienced hobbyist/former sideman

Beautiful craftsmanship and a joy to play. The Fender-designed pickups are very responsive. I love the scale of the neck as well as the shape and playability. You can dial ia great variety of tones with the switches and pickup combinations.

I love tgis ae much as my american fender.

Great guitar!

By Charles Hamric from New Orleans, LA on April 23, 2019 Music Background: Part time professional

I have always been curious about these jaguar guitars. I figured the squier would be a good choice considering a jaguar would probably not be my primary guitar. This guitar sounds really, really good! Playing nola jazz fest in a few days... this will be the guitar I"m playing.

The value here is tough to to beat. It"s a beautiful looking guitar with plenty of great sounds to match. Highly recommend

Fantastic Platform with Tons of Potential

By Aaron on June 14, 2023 Music Background: Southern Rock guitarist

My first offset guitar, and I am hooked. Bright, punchy lead circuit and a smooth, dark rhythm circuit makes this a great option for players who switch between rhythm and lead tones all night. Not without faults, as many components are less than stellar, but one strum through a near breakup amp and all is forgiven. If you enjoy setting up instruments and don't mind some tooling around, you're in for a custom fit treat.

Pros:
- Tonal options for all kinds of styles at the flip of a switch. Switches are also very low profile, making them very easy to avoid while playing
- slim, fast neck with attractive inlays
- Trem system is simple to set up and smooth as butter
- I really love the bridge design, as it makes setting the string height a breeze (once the neck angle is set properly)

Cons:
- Requires a good deal of work to get set up properly. Neck shims are a must, and the bridge can take some fiddling to get intonated
- Short scale length requires beefier strings. I noticed more finger wear from this guitar (set with 12's) than most of my acoustics. Not a huge problem, but if you prefer light strings you may have some intonation and tuning issues.
- Cheaper components. Several components are wobbly, namely the rhythm circuit thumb wheels. My tone pot on the lead circuit has broken, even without much use. The trem system, while fantastic, does require some filing to get flush, and does not include a lock.

I love it enough to upgrade the parts I didn't.

By Kevin McGowan from LEXINGTON, KY on February 9, 2022

I've had my surf green jag for 9 months now and I mostly love it. I had it plek'd by sweetwater (which was probably overkill) so out of the box the fit and finish were impeccable. As others have said, the neck and fingerboard and frets are everything I could hope for. Since getting it, I have shimmed the neck (1º) to improve the action and eliminate some buzzing from the bridge. Then I replaced the original, merely adequate, vibrato system with a Fender AVRI. I'm still not 100% sold on the bridge, but it's not bad enough to replace yet. All that being said, for the price, this guitar is phenomenal and I'm really glad I bought it from Sweetwater. I've played this guitar for at least 30 minutes on 280 of the 287 days since I received it. It is a joy to play and difficult to put down. With a set of 11s and the other changes I've made to it, I can't believe how good this thing makes me sound. Highly recommended.

Surprisingly good!

By Patrick McIntyre from Texas on July 24, 2021 Music Background: 57 years on guitars, basses, and Mandolins

I've been building my own guitars for a couple of years since my retirement. I had been looking at the Jag or JM for some time, trying to decide whether to build my own or buy outright. It seemed that the cheaper kits were somewhat inconsistent with what I knew of the Fender models, and piecing it together out of higher end companies (WM, for example) would be cost prohibitive to get the quality I wanted.
I did the research, and played a few in person, and found that the Squier was the best bang for the buck. Then I chose to buy from Sweetwater based on the "55 point inspection" that should ensure that my instrument was good out of the box.
The guitar arrived yesterday, and I did my own inspection and test drive. Fit and finish quality is what I would have expected from an American Fender, and the setup is near perfect out of the box. I will be doing a minimal amount of filing on the nut to get that where I like it, and I'll add locking tuners and a Whizzo bridge roller to make this thing near perfect.

The sound-tone I was looking for!

My only complaint is it doesn't fret well @ the 14th fret and above.

Great solid guitar

By James Bowers from Seattle on September 17, 2022 Music Background: Intermediate older player

Good craftsmanship on an affordable guitar.
I like the bright pick ups and the twangy sound which is perfect for rock, jazz, and country music.
This would have gotten a 5 star rating but I am comparing it to a Fender American Pro Tele and an Anderson Strat (both exceptional 5-star guitars)
Recommend polishing the fret board when you get your own Jag. The fret board is a bit rough; polishing it really makes a difference.
There is a good guide on fender's website to figure out what all of the switches are.

Fender Player MIM level quality. Great mod platform.

By Scott from FL on June 1, 2022 Music Background: Music Journeyman

I've been wanting a Jaguar for a while now. What's stopped me was the limited choices. You could get a Squier VM, a Fender Player (which are usually not vintage specs), or empty your wallet for an American model. When I saw this CV in Surf Green I had to pull the trigger. I have a thing for surf green guitars. My Player Strat and Tele are both Surf Green Pearl with maple fretboards. I call them my twins. So a surf green Jag was next on the list.I received mine in perfect condition and ready to play after a quick tuning.

I have to say, for $ this guitar is excellent. The build quality, fit and finish is far above what you'd expect for a Squier. They have really upped their game with the CV series. So why only 4 stars? Well, being completely honest, I can tell where Squier saved $$$ on this model.

Two big factors are the microphonic pickups and the the fact the neck is not pitched correctly per Leo Fender's designs. Leo designed the Jaguar neck to be shimmed. The lack of neck back angle is the main reason the guitar buzzes and the strings pop out of the saddles so easily. Leo designed the Jaguars to have a small back angle to allow the bridge to be raised and put more downward pressure across the bridge. Also, putting 9's on a Jag is criminal LOL. So several things I will be modding when the parts come in.

• The tremolo is good, but it isn't buttery smooth so I'll be upgrading to a Fender AVRI.
• Changing the bridge to a Mustang model with height adjustable saddles.
• Adding a Fender Mute like the 60's models had.
• Changed the pick guard to mint green to match my Strat and Tele.
• Changing the pickups for some EP Customs '62 vintage models in aged white covers to match the Start/Tele. They are RWRP so no buzz when both pickups are on.
• Changing out the full wiring harness for a 920D Vintage Jaguar harness. 1000k pots and true vintage sound.
• The tuners are fine and hold tune but they are low ratio so tuning is sloppy.

Now you may be saying, just by an American. Well No. It's still far cheaper to buy the Squier CV and mod it than to buy a stock Player or American.

Bottom line the Squier CV 70's Jaguar is a GREAT guitar for the price. If you're a beginner it's great to start learning on and you can modify it as you gain experience. You can't go wrong with purchasing it. I would definitely recommend taking it to a luthier to have the neck shimmed and have a proper setup done. Or just have Sweetwater do it for you.

Beautifully made.

By Joe from Florida on July 24, 2021 Music Background: Musician of over 50yrs.

The Quality of these guitars coming from Indonesia are very good. All that was needed was a major setup job.

After shimming the neck and adjusting the bridge all that was left was redoing the nut. Every American made Fender I've ever bought had a proper set up nut.
