I love this guitar
This guitar can roar or twang and anything in between. Righ out of the box the intonation and action was perfect. The fret edges were. Little sharp and I had a tech file them down. There's a coil split switch and a phase switch. I do use the coil split but admit to not having a good grasp of when to use phase/out of phase. But perhaps most importantly of all- it looks coooool . Like really, really cool. (Gold color) I love this guitar.
Above all Expectation
The guitar played and sounded great from the factory The fret work was playable but I was bored and cleaned up any rough spots This guitar shines on modifying I am going to buy another to modify as a slide guitar In the picture a SD Jazz in the neck and a DiMarzio Fortitude in the bridge all new pots and caps CRL switch The switches up top are there for show they are not connected
An Inexpensive Jaguar I Can Live With
Roasted maple neck, sculpted heal, stable tuning, painted headstock, decent pickups with good switching options for a variety of tones, would make a GREAT solid-boned modding platform if that's what you're looking for - what more could you want under $? I've always wanted a Jaguar and although there's no wiggle stick involved, I'll take the stable tuning and E strings actually staying on the guitar when I play over most of the other offerings. The neck feels great with the frets needing a little extra care on the ends and the board desperately needing moisture after picking one up. The more I play it - the more I like it. And, for me, the gold/black/chrome combos just work for the cool factor. It is HEAVY, but I am mostly a 'lap' player, so not a concern. With the switching, I can dial in a just past clean, bluesy, Strat neck pickup sound, nail the Pumpkins fuzz sound on the aggressive bridge bucker or flick a switch and go back to clean and get that 60s surf. It's a solid all arounder.
I'll end with this - I've bought, and either sent back or sold, many Squiers over the years, but this one is a keeper. Don't let the Squier logo on the headstock keep you from trying this one out. It punches above its price point!
Squier contemporary Jaguar
Overall this is a well built guitar. The neck feels great and the frets are finished quite well. The pickups sound great through my marshall stack. I thought I may have to upgrade the pickups but I'm pleased with how they sound. Honestly, there's nothing I will be upgrading. Overall this guitar is a great value for the price!
looks great, plays great, but the tone was not for me
This is another unusual experiment from Squier. I really enjoy their creativity. This time, they combined a Jaguar body and components with a Gibson Tune-o-matic-style bridge. I was hoping it would sound like a Les Paul, but with a lighter, more comfortable body (a Les Jag?). I was disappointed.
The guitar arrived from Sweetwater ready to play. The fit and finish were flawless and the roasted maple neck really looked and felt wonderful. I liked the short scale, especially for string bending (which you need to do because there is no whammy bar). Unfortunately, the pickups were a let down. In humbucker mode it sounded too muddy and it single coil mode it sounded dull. It does not sound anything like a Les Paul, probably because the tone woods are different. Maybe it's not a bad guitar, but there are better options at this price point. You'll probably be happier with a Classic Vibe Jaguar and upgraded pickups.
Great build quality from Squier
This guitar really impressed me with the build quality, fit and finish. The roasted maple neck is especially nice. All the controls felt solid and operated smoothly. Squier is now building guitars as well as Fender Mexico. However, I did not keep the Jaguar because I was disappointed with the tone. I was hoping it would sound like a Les Paul, but it was totally different. It doesn't sound like a traditional Jaguar either. Overall, the tone was dark and muddy. In humbucker mode, it was useless. In single coil it sounds okay, but there are better guitars at this price range.
