It's a great bass!

By Steve R. from Massachusetts on January 16, 2022 Music Background: Professional recording artist, guitarist.

I bought this Squier Affinity Jaguar Bass for my son as a first bass. I was looking for a mid-scale bass and had a few options in mind -- but, this Jaguar looked like a cool machine - and was a great deal as well. Have to say, I was very impressed -- and not just in comparing it to other inexpensive basses -- it's a fantastic bass overall. Beautiful fit and finish, it's super resonant, plays smoothly, was set-up just fine out of the box, too. The neck has a smooth satin finish - the humbucker sounds plenty good -- hardware is good quality. It's just really fun to play.

Only minor issue was a couple weeks after getting it, we had some really cold dry weather here in New England -- and the bass came down with a bad case of fret-sprout :) Not a problem, though -- had my fret file handy and took 30-minutes or so to get them all smoothed-out again. Again, really impressed with Squier -- and thanks as always to Tom Koch for getting this to us so fast for the holidays!

Wow!

A teen musician in my town was gigging when her bass went out. Instead of trying to fix her "beginner" bass, I just bought this Squire Affinity Series Jaguar for her (anonymously). I figured the medium scale and jazz neck would fit well in her hands. What I wasn't expecting was how playable and great sounding this bass would be. Wow! Almost kept it for myself. It came from Sweetwater setup and ready to play. Heard her last night and this bass is big sounding with a great tone. The neck is too short for my taste, but perfect for her. Excellent buy.

Easy to play

The setup was great! I love the 32" scale. I did have to adjust the pickup height to my liking but that's just a personal preference. Overall this is a great bass for the money.

Everything I expected, (and a little more.)

Let me be the first (maybe,) to say this bass is AMAZING. I got it from my local store, (sorry Sweetwater,) and it was perfectly set up. Perfect intonation, straight neck, no fret buzz, perfect action, great tuners, and a snarly stingray like sound. Also, I love that it's passive, unlike stingray basses. The finish is also spectacular! I'll try to show it in pictures, but it's way better in person!

I wanted a bass that was more growly than my jazz bass, and I originally thought about the Sterling Sub-ray basses, but this was cheaper, passive, shorter scale, and it's basically a Fender!

I've owned primarily all Squiers all my guitar/bass playing life, and I've never been disappointed! Granted some needed a little work, but they've been amazing in the long run. One of my most favorite guitars is my first guitar, which is a Bullet Mustang.

I'm a Fender man, so I might be a bit biased to be honest. But I'm really impressed with Squier's quality! All I have to say is: great job Fender! Really knocking it out of the park!

Good beginner bass

First of all I am primarily a Sweetwater customer, their customer service is second to none. I did get this bass on sale from a local store. I liked the looks and the jaguar body style. I currently own a Fender american PJ bass and a MIM jazz bass, sweetwater basses. So I have some comparisons for you. The humbucker pickup sounds great with awesome low end that sounds as good as my other basses, maybe a little better. This is a smallish short scale bass. Experienced bassist may not be totally okay with this model. Beginners will like it. The body is small and overall it will be easy to handle by anyone with smaller hands or shorter body. I have been playing bass for several years and I liked it. It sounded different enough from my other basses to make it usable in the rotation. Here's the issue you need to be aware of if you are going to buy this. The treble control does not raise the treble as much as it lowers the overall sound of the humbucker pickup. So basically this bass gives you one sound high or low and thats it. Overall for the minimal price, I think it is still a good buy. And even though I returned it to the store I am tempted to purchase this again from Sweetwater, as a great little practice bass that is easy to play.

Neck Dive

Good quality. Decent pickup. Awful neck dive.

By brian thompson from ANKENY, IA on March 13, 2024

Ok, in 2 months I bought 2 of these and they definitely were NOT the same.

One came from China: smooth tuners, well soldered connections, light finish on the neck and actually looked like the pictures )that grey sparkle color).

The 2nd one (repeat order) came from Indonesia one month later: very rough, unfinished neck, tuners seemed very gritty to turn, tone knob wouldn't move without alot of work, pickup has several wires not connected to anything and somehow a flat gray with no sparkle is being considered the same as the first...oh, and the Indonesia one for being new with tags still on it...has a stain on the 1st fret. Nice...

So, though I do like the first one and would probably give it a 5 star, definitely blew me away for bass...I'd be hard pressed to give the 2nd one 2 stars. Be very careful when ordering as there seems to be no decent quality control on these (either from squire or Sweetwater)
