Squier Classic Vibe Jaguar Bass - 3-Color Sunburst Reviews

4-string Electric Bass Guitar, with Nato Body, Maple Neck, Indian Laurel Fretboard, and 2 Single-coil Pickups - 3-color Sunburst

Taking its cues from the Fender Jaguar Bass, the Squier Classic Vibe Jaguar Bass rocks a P Bass pickup in the middle with a J Bass pickup at the bridge. The result is a rockin', mid-focused bass tone at a great value. Add to that concentric control knobs to give individual control for volume and tone for each pickup, and you've got a ton of sonic potential in your hands. So, if you want excellent bass tone and classic looks at a price you can't pass up, pick up a Squier Classic Vibe Jaguar Bass.

Jaguar classic vibe bass

By Sweetwater Customer on April 9, 2024

Nice bass that's easy to play. Good tone and easy on the back for this old man. Sweetwater's inspection isn't a set up but it sure seems that way. This bass came out of the box ready to play.

Squier Classic Vibe Jaguar bass

Squier Classic Vibe Jaguar bass. Super nice quality, sounds great. Sweetwater shipped super fast and packed well. I recommend Sweetwater.

Surprised

By TN Dave from TN on June 12, 2023 Music Background: Amateur

So I have mostly high end basses American fenders Kinals Pedulla Gibsons etc.
Been getting into the shorter scale basses lately. I bought this as a beater and to leave it at my church etc...well when I pulled it out of the box I was really pleasantly surprised. Sure it may not have the higher grade hardware of the American Fenders however the fit and finish is in some cases superior to the American fenders. I have recently purchased an American Fender Mustang. It is very nice but not better finish wise and set up wise compared to this Squire. Today I took delivery to a American pro 11 Jazz bass special edition dark night blue black finish. This Fender is almost 2 grand. The fret work on it is horrible. Like mini razor blades and sticking out unacceptably. This Squire has beautiful fret work and a nice low action with zero frett buzz. It is quite the guitar for the money and has a great growl thru a Ampeg. Only negative is its hard to find proper fitting flat wound for 32 inch scale. Most 30 short scale sets are tòo short. Used regular scale ones and dealt with a slight bend on E string around the tuner beyond the felt threaded ends. This is a great guitar and I find myself playing it more than my other ones

Medium scale but not middle of the road

By Timothy Ekdom from APPLETON, WI on July 28, 2022

Great bass that sounds as good as a long scale and plays as easily as a short scale. Fit and finish detail are excellent. The concentric volume / tone controls make it especially easy to get a wide variety of tones. Happy to have it.

Jaguar Playability

By bob from lancaster pa on March 10, 2022 Music Background: long time bass and guitar player...americana

I've been playing bass as a gigging musician for over 40 years. I've gone through a lot of different brands but always come back to Fender. I've been playing a good US Jazz or P Bass for most of this century. Being a little older I'm am getting some arthritis in my left hand and the neck of the P is starting to feel a little difficult for me. i've been eying the Classic Vibe Jaguar for over a year. the 32" neck caught my attention. I got a Classic Vibe Telecaster about a year ago and was blown away by its quality. So much so I sold my American Deluxe! Anyhow, i finally pulled the string and ordered the CVJaguar. Collin Blue was my reference point at Sweetwater. The bass arrived in great condition. Its quality and workmanship are amazing for a bass in this price range. it is a beautiful instrument and feels and plays like an expensive guitar. The neck, which is the most important part selling point of this bass, is to die for. It is so easy to play and so well crafted. And this feels like a real bass, not a small guitar like my Mustang Bass. Where they did scrimp on, however, are the pickups. They are very uneven and anemic. I called Collin and ordered a set of Fender Yosemites and my tech guy put them in and did a little set up and this bass sounds and plays like the real deal. But, yeah, if you are a serious player like me, and really care about your touch and tone, replace the pickups. I don't think I would play it out with the stock ones that come on it. The Yosemites sound great on it. My tech guy is amazed at the quality of the build. It took hardly any set up at all and I put on my usual Ernie Ball strings with 50s on the top and 105s on the bottom. This bass came with a $45 Sweet Bucks which I put toward the pickups. So I have an extremely nice bass that is different From my Jazz or P and cost about $600 with the new pickups. Well worth it. Would I recommend this bass....yes. If you just want to play around the house you will be happy with it as is. But if you want to gig with it I certainly recommend putting the Fender Yosemites in it. Take care.

CV Jaguar Bass is all that and more!

By M Pan from Denver on February 16, 2022

I picked up a demo version of the CV Jag Bass at a reduced price. SW documented all the "wear and tear" on the bass before purchase. Upon inspection, you would need a microscope to see any of it, it's so minute. Fast, secure shipping! My SSE, Bart Amburn is the best! Everything about this bass is spot on! It plays and sounds amazing! I gigged it 2 nights in a row (6 hours) right out of the box and it was a workhorse. Great setup by SW techs - Best of all is the neck on this guitar - great craftsmanship and fret work - plays like a dream. Someone wrote the name on the headstock might as well say "Fender" and I agree!

OMG! Sounds amazing.

By Sweetwater Customer on November 1, 2021

This bass is so easy to play. The stacked volume and tone knobs makes adjusting you sound a snap. It has Fender strings on it, no need to change right away. It has that great P bass sound I wanted. The Jazz pickup gives the high that I expected. All around great sound. I will put flats on it when it needs new strings. Looking forward to see how it sounds then, but no hurry it has very good strings on it now.

Great bass! Easy to play.

My first perches from Sweewater. Excellent service, and a big thanks to Calvin for your help. I ordered it on Monday it arrived on Wednesday. The 32 inch scale is easy on my arthritic hands. You can dial in many different tones easily. I have a Peavey T-40 that has many tones also. Getting the tones out of the T-40 is a nightmare.

Very nice bass, at ANY price point

By Alan R Lighton from CA on July 8, 2021 Music Background: 40 years of buying and building guitars and basses

The Squier Jaguar bass was set up pretty well by the sweetwater 55 point inspection tech, but I played with it a bit more and dialed it in the way I like it with the strings that came on it. I inspected the thing end to end and there wasn't a significant flaw that I could detect. Even the fret ends were very nicely polished, much more so than the made in china Squier offset Tele/Jaguar that I recently got. The one I got weighed 8 lbs 10oz and had nice figuring in the grain. The Nyatoh wood Squier is using for these is a really nice choice with excellent tonal properties.

My friend has a really nice $2500 Fender Custom shop P-J bass (P bass with same P-J pickup config as the Jaguar), and the Squier held it's own just fine. The pickups are quite nice, I see no reason to change them. The tuners are unremarkable but perfectly functional. The bridge is comparable to the vintage bridge on his custom shop, but I'm not really impressed with either. It's Leo's design, simple and functional, but there is room for improvement. I have a gotoh vintage style bridge on the way to replace it. I'm not expecting night and day differences, but folks report that they've gotten better sustain. Probably just placebo, but either way, the function changes (thicker brass plate, grooves for adjustment screws, and two added front hold down screws that make a lot of sense) can only help.

It will be a nice companion to my Steinberger bass.

A quick shout out to my Sales Rep Caleb Lowrey. He makes it very easy to get the things I want from Sweetwater.

Another great purchase

By Joe Legeckis on July 27, 2020

Not only is this one heck of a bass but the purchase experience was and has been in the past the reason I keep coming back to buy gear. Have to give kudos to my sales engineer Devin Cunningham and his team they always do a great job.

Awesome

By Nathan McGee from Arkansas on May 17, 2020 Music Background: 15 years playing bass and guitar.

excellent build quality, super comfortable to play. Punchy single coil sound. There's nothing about this bass that I don't like. The headstock might as well just say fender, but then you would have to pay double.

Convinced.

By jeff from NY on August 26, 2020

I've been playing for over 40 years and I have never been a Fender fan in any way. I love Leo's designs, just not the post CBS corp output. I've been playing Music Man and Ric all these years. My son was eyeballing my StingRay to take to school, so I jumped on Sweetwater to grab something he could bounce around a dorm room. Did they same with my other son with a Sterling, this guy wanted Fender so I gave him the options. He chose the Jag (with a little nudging from me) and I was more than pleasantly surprised.

I thought I'd have to do some serious work on it, from my exposure to Squiers in the past, but it showed up in very playable condition. It's a pretty solid instrument for the money, quality was higher than expected. Probably part Sweetwater care, but this'll do him fine for a long time. May have to deal with some proud frets when the winter dries out the neck, but I've had that on basses 3 times the price of this.

One caveat, I didn't play the bass through an amp, so I can't attest to the tone control, but with today's options of signal shaping, I don't think it's an issue.

Despite the problems I love this bass

By Christopher Giardina on January 7, 2020 Music Background: hobbyist, teacher

So I received this, after 3 months on pre-order, yesterday. First off, I'm in love with this bass, it's beautiful, it sounds great, but there are some quality control issues that I'm a little disappointed in.

1. It sounds great. It's everything you'd want out of PJ. But mine has first fret buzz on the A-string. That either means filling and reshaping or replacing the bone nut. Both of which means more money.

2. I'm getting a chorus effect on the low E-string. This either means replacing string(s) or, hopefully, taking off the E-string and straightening it out, then putting it back. Possibly means more money.

3. The precision volume control know was binding with the tone knob that surrounds it. This was a simple fix that I shouldn't have had to do.

Despite all these problems, I absolutely love this bass and if I have to spend some more money to make it perfect, then so be it.

Less than a year, some major issues

By Christopher Giardina from Bardstown, KY on December 3, 2020 Music Background: hobbyist, teacher

So I wrote a review shortly after receiving my bass pre-corona. I have had more time to play it and issues are starting to pop up.

1. The truss rod is at its maximum and the truss rod anchor is slipping. After the truss rod is adjusted, it pops back into not having enough relief. I have to go through Fender for a warranty exchange. After doing some shopping around, apparently I am not the only one who has had neck issues on this specific instrument.

2. When I removed the neck, I saw that the neck was shimmed. I don't know who shimmed it, but that is not something you should have to deal with on brand new instrument. This means replacing the neck will only partially fix the problem.

3. The bass is almost unplayable as-is because of the effort required to fret it properly.

I know I'm not the only person who has had issues with this instrument. Maybe it's the stock, or the machinery or the hardware. But there is a fundamental problem here; shame really.
