Sounds great as expected

By John from Fort Scott, KS

Should have stayed with Marshall this amp sounds great and is very versatile. Easy to dial in, more so if yo have used Marshall amps in the past. The cleans are great so that for sure is an improvement over past amps. I didn't need as many presets as the 410 offers so I bought the 210. However, I have read some comments saying it is all overly complected. I found it all to be pretty easy to be honest. And as always Sweetwater means great service.

Best Amp Ever

By Sweetwater Customer

I love this amp. I've always been a Marshall guy but for a bit I had a Mesa Road King that I never got along with. I sold the Mesa for one of these and never looked back. I plugged it into a 4x12 I loaded with Eminence Speakers and I realized I had found MY sound. This amp can literally do anything from sparkling, Fender-style cleans to full-on modern high-gain. If you play in drop tunings a lot or use extended range guitars, then don't worry because this sounds even meaner the lower you tune. I will never use another amp. Long live the JVM!

DOESN'T GET ANY BETTER THAN THIS

By MR.CPR from YORK,PA.
Music Background: RETIRED SEMI PRO,HOBBIEST

I'VE HAD MINE JUST ABOUT A YEAR NOW,AND NO COMPLAINTS. I WANTED SOMETHING NEW,WITH NO ISSUES,THAT COULD REPLACE MY BELOVED JCM2000 TRS. THE DSL'S JUST DON'T CUT IT WITH ME,BECAUSE YOU CAN'T GO FROM CLEAN TO CRUNCH WITH THE FOOTSWITCH;JUST FROM CLEAN TO OVERGAIN,OR FROM CRUNCH TO OVERGAIN. THIS BABY SHINES,AS IT DOES EVERYTHING,AND EACH SETTING CAN BE STORED.JUST LOVE IT!SOUNDS BEST,TO ME,THROUGH VINTAGE 30'S,FOR SURE.

Fantastic Amp

By Steve from Bucks County, PA
Music Background: Weekend Player

I've owned the JVM210 for nearly three years. I have it paired it with a Mesa Boogie 2x12" Rectifier cab (Celestion V30s), both of which I purchased from Sweetwater (thanks, Jozy!). It is an amazing amp. The six channels provide an incredible array of sounds, from beautiful cleans to brutal distortion. In terms of guitars, my two main ones are a Gibson Les Paul Standard and a PRS McCarty 594 (my favorite!). I also have an array of pedals, which work beautifully with the amp's effects loop.

While this is the best amp I have ever owned, I couldn't give it five stars for a few reasons. First off, the foot pedal went on me after about 10 months, with one of the switches no longer working. Not a huge issue, as Sweetwater promptly sent me another one, but I expected a bit more quality based on the price tag. A second issue, which is more significant, is that the channel volumes are not uniform with the voicings. As you move from the green voicing, to the orange voicing, and finally to the red, with each successive channel adding another gain stage, it naturally adds volume to each voicing. Thus, if you switch from your red Crunch channel to your orange Crunch channel during a song, there is a noticeable reduction in volume. (Note: this became significantly less noticeable after I swapped out the pre-amp tubes, but is still obvious). The other negative, which is not a deal breaker, but just irritating, is that it should have come with a six way footswitch (like the JVM 410). Don't get me wrong, the footswitch is tremendous and makes it easy to switch between channels and voicings, but having a six way instead of a four way makes obvious sense, given there are six voicings in all, plus you may want to control your reverb and the lead volume from the foot switch.

As noted, I replaced the pre-amp tubes, as I blew three of them within the first two years (while a hassle, they are easy to replace). As I replaced each of the original tubes, I noticed minor changes to the sound each time. After changing the third original tube (of five), I proactively changed the other two, thinking they would likely go soon anyway. The Groove Tubes I put in are much hotter than the original Marshall tubes. What I thought would be a minor change, turned out to be significant. The gain, particularly in the orange and red voicing of the Clean/Crunch channel, was so much more pronounced. Those channels went from being pretty good to really amazing. Even with only modest gain on the orange channel, it now delivers bite, which wasn't there before. It also helped even out the volumes a bit between the different voicings (see above comment), plus added some more highs, which seemed to be missing a bit with the original tubes, particularly on the red voicing.

I also need to parrot several other reviews: in short, the amp actually has too much distortion; however, too much is better than not enough, as you can always dial it back. However, it does render the red voicing of the overdrive channel non-usable (unless you are playing very heavy metal), as is it delivers too much distortion. The orange voicing of the overdrive channel is more than plenty, as it just screams and has incredible overtones. Using the orange voicing, I set the gain at about 3- 3.5, which is absolutely plenty to play any heavy rock song out there. It is that vintage hard rock sound you crave.

Sorry for the overly long review, but I though it important to give potential buyers some honest information from someone who has put the amp through some serious testing. Even with the knocks listed above, the amp is truly amazing (thus, the very high rating). The cleans you can get, the tremendous crunch, and the beautifully smooth distortion are all there, just by clicking the footswitch. I would highly recommend this amp, and would definitely purchase one again.

From Kitty-Cat to Fire Breather!

By Troy W. from Arizona
Music Background: Been around awhile ;)

The 210H is flat out AMAZING! Pretty much any Marshall tone you could ever want is inside this thing just waiting to be discovered!
At full roar, the buildings/homes around you will rattle. But no need to PO your neighbors, it sounds GREAT at bedroom volumes too...BONUS!!!

This one amp can (and will) cover all the bases from really nice, shimmery cleans to balls out metal (and all at the tap of a footswitch).

It's super easy to set up too. Setting up the channels, modes and footswitch took about 30 min, and it is now "gig-ready" (C'mon COVID, we need to jam!!!)

Also, worth mentioning, it will hold it's own against my Fryette Sig X...and then some. Plus it is WAY more user friendly!

I went with this over the 410H simply because I don't really need all the other functionality of the 410.
The 210 has everything I need, and more.

A special shout out to Jon Mostacato for all your help and dealing with me...lol.
Thank you for everything!

~Troy

I'm typically not a fan of Marshall... until I heard this thing!

By Adam B. from Shirley, MA
Music Background: Guitarist 25+ years

I've never really been a fan of the Marshall sound, a lot of the Marshall tones I hear in recordings that I love are drastically pushed or heavily modified amplifiers. A natural JCM800, while a good Rock amp, is not a great Metal amplifier in my opinion. Enter the JVM series of amps. This is Marshall's proper metal line as far as I'm concerned. They are all tube amps, loaded with EL34's and have that glorious tube tone I love so much.

Now, if you're interested in this particular series of Marshall amps, I've tried the 50 Watt and it is quite comparable to the 100 Watt. The major difference is the amount of headroom, of course, but that little bit seems to give the 100 a bit more oomph in the overall sound compared to the 50, but the 50 is an awesome choice if you aren't going to be pushing the amp much. The 410H is by far the flagship model in the JVM line and a friend of mine has that amp. I've played it many times and it sounds awesome. However, if you watch the demo videos Marshall market's this as basically 12 amps in one, so that makes the 210 about 6 amps in one. To be honest I never use the middle channels or any "crunch" channel on a lot of the amps I own, so the 410H is just option overkill as far as I'm concerned. The 410 is certainly a great amp, but if you just want cleans and high gain, the 210 is really what you're after.

The JVM series is the heaviest and highest gain Marshall I've come across that sounds amazing. It definitely puts the coveted JCM series to shame, as far as I'm concerned, and it costs a lot less. It might not exactly hit those JCM classic rock tones in the same way, but it will definitely exceed the JCM's in the field of high gain. So, if you're a Metal player I highly recommend checking out the JVM series. They even hold their own against some of my best boutique amps from the likes of Driftwood, Mezzabarba (admittedly these are the king of amps as far as I can find), and Soldano.

Good without mods, GREAT with mods

By Esteban
Music Background: 20 years experience guitar player

about 7 years into owning this amp i gotta say this a FANTASTIC AMP, it has all the options a person like me would need for example quick preset changes:
you can change from clean to crunch plus reverb plus effects loop, or overdrive plus reverb plus (insert effects here) to crunch to clean with effects, with only ONE BUTTON, its the most versatile amp i own hands down, powerful enough to fill up a bar OR play on an open stadium for that matter, the tone UNMISTAKENLY MARSHALL and nobody can take that away from this amp, now for the not so stellar part : the overdrive channel has TOO MUCH GAIN , the gain channel on this amp is the overdrive 2 channel on the 410h (the metal channel) so to get the crunch sounds of the classic marshalls you need to boots the channel one red with a booster or a light overdrive pedal which is not what most people want to do but there is a solution: this amp has been modded by everybody and their respective grandmas, and there are simple mods that can be done (if you know how to use a soldering iron) that will TRANSFORM this amp from a (ok amp) to a FANTASTIC amp, the mods are all over the place in the jvm webpage for anybody to do them, for example you can change the overdrive channel of this and make it sound like the crunch channel on the jvm 410h (which is the best channel in the jvm series) with a simple swap of one resistance and one capacitor, something SUPER EASY TO DO, if you know and even if you dont know your way into circuit boards (like myself) but its sooooo easy EVEN A CAVEMAN CAN DO IT , it really is. There are a gazillion of mods that can be done very easily and all explained in detail in the JVM forum in the section called (the workbench) , but even without mods this is a good amp but the overdrive channel is not as good as the crunch channel on the JVM 410, with mods, this is the the most versatile rocking machine you can own, 7 years into owning this thing it hasnt failed on me once without including tubes of course (even after 7 mods made by a non professional like me) and making it travel more than 3000 miles, everybody that i played this amp to has praised my tone, EVERY TIME, even purists.

my veredict: BUY IT TO MOD IT, or if you are into metal and need a versatile amp for live performance.

Not recommended for: people that cant use a soldering iron and want a hard rock or classic rock amp mainly, or people that is into hard rock and classic rock but dont like to use pedals

Would i personally buy it again in case i loose it in a fire : ABSOLUTELY.

Great Marshall tone. The midi switching is very easy to use and the foot switch works well also. I use a Voodoo Labs midi controller with the GCX to control my effects and the JVM works seamlessly with my other gear.

Marshall JVM210H with 1960AV cabinet

By DPG from FL
Music Background: Musician, recording, live sound

We, the band, have a Fender Super Sonic 12 tube amp combo and an EVH III a 100 watts, 3 channel tube head with EVH 410 cabinet. Both sound great. But if you want that heavy metal sound from a jacked up humbucker output, none of the newer equipment that I've heard can hang with the JMV210H with 1960AV cabinet. Seems like this cabinet has a lower natural tone. Just thick crunch, slam you in the chest rock & roll. Wiht guitar only, no pedals added. Guitar is ESP Kirk Hammon custom guitat (around $2,500.00 retail) with hot humbuckers. What a sound, very thick Metallica-esq. If this is the sound you are looking for, you'll be hard pressed to find a better soundind amp and cabinet. Oh, yea it is loud...

This is the amp you want get it now rather than 5 amps from now

By Phil C. from Louisville KY
Music Background: Playing guitar 30+ years gigging & recording hobbiest

In short this is the amp you need you won’t regret it. I could have saved tons of money if I had bought this amp years before. I spent 30+ years buying amps that were said to be as good as a Marshall or sounded like one. Several amps & modeling pedals later I finally said what am I doing getting all these things to sound like a Marshall maybe I should just get one.
The one for me was the JVM210 Head. This amp is so versatile and goes from a clean to bluesy crunch to far overdrive. It sounds great al low medium & cranked volumes.

You get 2 channels with 3 modes on each. The modes are different enough so it is like having 6 different channels. You have 2 separate master volumes so you get that boost you need for solos. The reverb is great it sounds natural not processed. I like it more than the reverb on my rack gear. You also have 2 different effects loops 1 that is traditional & another that allows you to bypass the pre amp section for using a modeler. Honestly for live gigs I do not think I will go back to a modeler pedal after getting this amp. All this can be controlled by a 4 button easy to program foot switch. That is the only down side a 6 button switch would have been so much better to have than the 4. The cool thing about it is it connects with a regular (included) guitar cord so you can make it as long or short as you need.

Staring with Channel 1 you have a nice clean sound that works for smooth ballads & country songs. Not Roland Jazz amp clean but I did not want that. The next 2 channels add a little more gain each mode 2 adds a little crunch so it works for blues & soft songs needing an edge. Mode 3 is a little more of the same just a little crunchier. This works well for rock songs.
Channel 2 picks up where channel 1 left off a little more rock sounding like ACDC & Zeppelin. Mode 2 is where hard rock lives Motley Crue, Priest sort of stuff. Mode 3 is the hottest setting & metal players will be pleased here. I tend to use the channel 1 mode 3 & channel 2 mode 1 areas for most for what I play ACDC & 80s rock type covers.

The EQs are separate for each channel & react nicely to changes I dialed in a great tone right away. I put each of them a little over 5 & adjusted to taste. The presence control works for shaping the high end & the presence control does the same for the low end. The all react nicely & if you play with the knobs a little you will get what you need.

The back of the amp has a MIDI jack so if you have an external controller you can change amp channels with it. You have all sorts of jacks to plug in different ohm rated speaker cabs. So you can power just about anything you have. Mine works great on a 4 x12.

I have a blast taking this from clean songs to rocking hard. It works great for playing in my bedroom, a little louder for practice & a little more for gigs. 100 Watts should be plenty for any situation I encounter. It has a 5 year warranty so any of the major stuff is covered for a very reasonable period of time. I have had the amp for about 45 days now & there just seems to be that little extra spark between my guitar & amp reaction. Not to sound silly to but is is almost magical. My guitar hunt ended a few years ago with a PRS now my amp quest is over. If I had only gotten this sooner rather than skimp for something that sounds almost as good. They were good but not this.
