First, thank you Uli Behringer and Sweetwater for making these amazing instruments available
and at an amazing price. I just love the first patch, the fatsaw. I don't use a computer and just play live.
I midi out my Casio CT-640, into a midi hub. The output of the two JT-4000's gets plugged into a 20db clean booster
and then sent to a Behringer Dual-Phase shifter. The output of the Dual-Phase is then sent to my Aveek 5-FA mixer and
on to my Sunbuck As-336BU stereo amplifier. OMG, the sound is just smooth as silk yet also can be very powerful
I just love it and yes, two is better than one.

Some have said that this is more of a toy than a proper synth. I would argue that for the price and the size it is absolutely amazing just how much they have compressed into such a small package. Add to that the fact that Behringer put a hardware revision that adds in proper MIDI support just puts this in an even higher class in my opinion. The only reason I give this 4/5 stars is that this does not yet deliver on the promise of portability and polyphony like the Roland Boutique series. It's true that you can still hook this up to a laptop or to a portable power brick, but personally I enjoy the added convenience of putting in rechargeable batteries and not having to worry as much about accessories. In the end though this is fattest sounding synth you will get in the smallest possible package.

When Behringer announced this I had really expected it to be a JP-8000 in a very micro form. After all, the Roland Boutiques have some crazy rich features for their size and I figured the original JP was probably one of the more simpler synths to emulate. While you do get a pretty good sounding supersaw, you are limited to 4 voices as opposed to the JP's 8, so making some of the lush pads the original was made for is just not possible. Even with some basic plucky arp melodies I was hitting some voice stealing. The voice count also comes losing the second oscillator if have OSC1 set to Supersaw. The controls are pretty easy to dial in, surprising considering the size of the them and screen. Bear in mind there is no free software option anymore, unless you purchase one of the apps you're stuck with menu diving. But honestly it's not that difficult and very easy to access everything you need quickly.

It's a fun unit if you want a supersaw on a budget or just want something to play around with, but for $ you're half of the way to Arturia's way more feature rich JUP-8000 VST or you could get the excellent JP6K VST with some cash left over. If you don't have any hardware or want something portable that has a versatile and good sound, this would be perfect, especially now that it has MIDI IN. Otherweise, If you've already got a synth that has a super/hyper saw however I think it's best to pass on it as the JT-4000 isn't going to offer anything outstanding over those.

This thing can't be reviewed without "for the price" language. Because $. But by emphasizing the low price, you can miss out on just how great this little guy is. It sounds great. The controls are remarkably logical and easy to master. I love it and I'm trying to figure out how to talk myself out of buying another one.

For the price, and the size, you get a lot! So far, just using the presets and tweaking a bit here and there, but honestly, the presets sound amazing.

Because I should have bought five or six immediately.

These are so affordable, they could be a party favor.

The JT4000M is of pure pocket-sized fun.

Now that this has a MIDI port, you just have to have one. I connect mine to my Komplete Kontrol with the right MIDI channels going out and it's just a complete joy. Sounds fantastic
