The JS2480 is the Rolls-Royce of Ibanez Satriani-style electric guitars. You haven't experienced playability until you've wrapped your hand around the JS2480's 3-piece maple/bubinga JS neck. Ibanez's Prestige fret treatment only adds to the fluid feel of this guitar. Experience glorious high-output tones with loads of harmonics and definition, by way of a DiMarzio Satchur8 bridge humbucker, while a Sustainiac circuit stretches your notes into infinity. On top of that, there is a push-pull highpass filter for keeping your tone with volume rolled back. The Ibanez JS2480 also boasts an Ultralite tremolo arm for effortless twisting, bending, and dive-bombing.

Outstanding

This guitar is outstanding! Heads up, it does need a setup, I do all repairs and setup myself. Definitely needed truss rod and string height adjustment. The red color really shines, plays like a dream!

Just a amazing elite full professional instrument. Meticulous in its build and ethereal in its sound
One of the finest instruments we own. The dynamics with little change in pick attack make this guitar sing
Very comfortable and ergonomic. The pickups can be quite and Angelic to monster thick lead

Thanks Joe for the inspiration

Plays awesome right out of the box. Very impressive construction and attention to detail. Very comfortable to play and stays in tune from one day to another. i am loving the sustainiac. It adds so much fun to playing and is different than any other guitar (les paul, wolfgang, prs strat, tele and firebird) I have. Having 24 frets just makes so much sense. When you climb the neck it just feels more natural. Now I wonder why all guitars aren't made that way. I had to replace the tuners on my Les Paul and PRS as they were crap but these feel nice on the Ibanez. I am very happy I chose this and would do it again in a heartbeat.

Everything I've come to expect from a Satch guitar.

A little history. I own a JS1, JS1200CA, JS2450 MCP and now this beautiful JS2480 MCR. The JS2480 MCR is an outstanding instrument. It's very much akin to the JS2450, but the addition of the active pickup in the neck position is a real game changer. Sustain for days and quite musical when applied properly.
The paint is perfect, the neck is very smooth and the fret work is also perfect. Naturally, the Edge tremolo is everything you would expect.
If you are thinking about it (purchasing this guitar) all I can say is..Go for it. You will not be disappointed. Also, the case is NO disappointment either. Your axe will always be safe and sound in there.

A must have for any Satriani fan. It's slick and it rocks. If you want to soar amongst the stars, this will do it for you.

Great guitar

Well I don't know what's up with all the ridiculous and silly reviews by the same "shred" person on here, but this is a cool guitar. High quality like most Prestige Ibanez models. I wish it had stainless steel frets but the ones it comes with are great. Pickups are very versatile, and playability is super smooth. If you like Joe's more recent tones this one will get you there.

JS2480MCR

By BROKENPOET from SOUTH SHORE BOSTON, MA on June 13, 2019 Music Background: 47yrs playing "Been There, Done That"

This my first JS model, after playing this guitar for a week, I now can write a review. 1st, the guitar looks like someone took there time to design. Holding the guitar in play position fits me better than the RG series, keeping in mind, that I have been playing RG's since 1987. 2nd, The tremolo on this guitar is just superb, i now can understand better how Joe plays the way he does. 3rd, the sustainiac pickup, is just a great tool to have, .... I will be using this pickup for original music writing because it adds so much control and character to your sustain. The signature humbucker let's me dial in Joe tones, and has great response. 4th, the action I think could be better, yeah SW set it up, but, I think this can be set up better than it is now, this is not down playing SW set people, but I just think they didn't take the time needed to really set it up, this is my own personal opinion....5th, the balance of the guitar is like no other i have played, my hands are always relaxed, the light weight whammy bar is just really cool, great add on. 6th, the pull pots are just an awesome add in to switch it up. I am still experimenting with this guitar and working with different amps, peds, and FX to see what it can bring me. Just a great, great tool for guitar players...

Desert island guitar !

By Riff Shreddington from Everywhere on April 3, 2019 Music Background: Pro studio

Can"t say enough about this guitar
Blows away our PRS core....I know how dare we say that.
The real test is playing into a tube amp without any effects
This red rocket has inherent tone that we rarely hear in a guitar
Beyond the super tone is the comfort
The neck is perfect with asymmetrical carve...
None of us can put this red superaxe down
Expensive..yes....but it sits at the top of our 35 guitar studio
We recommend Joe"s axe.....

Worth the bucks just outstanding instrument in every way

By Shred Flintstone from Magicville on March 14, 2019 Music Background: Pro Studio and gigging musician

We compared this JS2480 to our Core 2017 PRS custom and guess who won ?
Looks....the muscle care red says speed demon...check .... the PRS is black gold beautiful..check
The JS 2480 and PRS have rosewood fingerboards...check
The super rigid three piece neck vs mahogany both are beautiful.....check
Medium tall 6105 frets yes
Wide thin neck...PRS
Fender pro series type neck on the Ibanez ...nice
Radius. Ibby 9.5 vs PRS 10 both feel similar
Polished and dressed frets....both
Body... Ibby basswood vs PRS mahogany with maple cap
Comfort....both very good
Tone.....the winner is JS2480 with more clarity even in high gain, plus the sustaniac is
truly amazing and not just a gimmick. Notes all across the fretboard just bloom beautifully
This guitar is built to last and the thought that Joe has put in this tone machine
can be heard the moment you strum the first chord or rip through the first lead passage.
Sounds, looks and feels like nothing we have in our studio....we really love this guitar...

IS SATRIANI INSPIRED BY THE JEM?

By Music Mike on February 18, 2022

Its amazing that the JS Series has been out since the late 80s. This is my third Satriani model and am quite impressed compared to my other two. I have a black one from 1989, a pearl black one from 2004 and now this. Its amazing the refinements that have happened. The necks and bodies remain exactly the same, what changes is the pickups. The oldest one is a Dimarzio Fred in the bridge, PAF Pro in the neck with coil taps. The pearl black one is two Dimarzio Freds. The new one has the Dimarzio Satchurator which has a slightly different midrange and slightly less gain than the Fred. The neck with the single coil is a bit flat sounding on its own, almost underpowered but with the Sustainer on look out! That feature plus 24 frets is a logical evolution. But I wonder if Satriani got inspiration from Vai's Jems after hanging with the guy on those incredible G3 shows over the years? The Jem has always had 24 frets plus a few of Vai's live guitars have the Fernandes Sustainer installed. The Sustainer pickup works brilliantly though and does sound quite natural. It is something like an E Bow, or a pedal like Boss' discontinued Feedbacker/ Sustainer or Digitech's Freqout. I tend to use it in the on position all the time, then I switch to the neck pickup for soloing and nothing else. The bridge I will use for clean, rhythm or leads so pretty easy switching between tones. By and large the JS guitars are the most comfortable Ibanez has to offer.
