Jackson Dinky Arch Top JS22 DKA - Natural Oil Reviews

Solidbody Electric Guitar with Arched Nato Body, Maple Neck, Amaranth Fingerboard, 2 Humbucking Pickups, and Tremolo - Natural Oil

The Jackson JS22 Dinky solidbody electric guitar was made to create sonic mayhem. The amazingly affordable JS22 Dinky serves up massive tone and killer sustain courtesy of its arched nato body, tremolo tailpiece, and two high-output ceramic humbuckers. You'll appreciate the playability of the maple speed neck and fat-fretted, compound-radius amaranth fingerboard that allows you to transition more easily between rhythm and lead playing. Whether it's your first electric guitar or you're simply looking for a great value, you'll be impressed with the Jackson JS22 Dinky.

Great Guitars - I own two (so far)

By Jason Longo from New Port Richey, FL on January 4, 2024 Music Background: Amateur musician

These are great guitars for any level player. I own the blue and the Natural Oil models, so far. The value for the money is outstanding, and I like these better than some guitars I have owned which were over $1,000.

The experience with shopping with Sweetwater is always good. Salesperson was very helpful and proactive with a shipping issue that I caused myself with a typo.

Here are some of the great features, not in any order. I have nothing negative to say.

- Light weight
- Easy access to high frets
- Great pickups
- No buzz. Great setup out of the box.
- Low action
- Well marked fretboard (I like better than dots)
- Looks cool without being flashy or specific to a musical genre
- Very affordable
- Buy every color for standard tuning, half-step down tuning, Drop C and Drop D.
- Durable
- Stays in tune without annoying (in my opinion) Locking tuners or bridge
- Smooth neck, no fret burrs
- Great neck feel, easy to fret and reach advanced cords

One of the best guitars for the price

By J from PA on December 15, 2023 Music Background: 20 years of metal

Picked up this guitar just to add a Jackson to the collection without spending a bunch of money. Very glad I did, It has been good for the price point. You get the classic look of a Jackson guitar plus the feature of the super slim fast playing neck profile. The neck profile is the most comfortable imo compared to any of my other guitars. The neck is nice and thin. I really like the natural wood look and feel.

I upgraded the bridge pickup to a Seymour Duncan JB pickup. The same Pickup they put in higher end models and guitars with price points over $. The pickup has a quick clear attack to it and pairs with the guitar perfectly. I wanted to get a guitar setup with a JB Sh-4 and this was a great platform to stick it in. $ on the guitar, $ on the JB Sh-4. Great guitar setup at $ total. I personally would recommend this pair to anyone on a budget for a metal guitar with a lot of note clarity. I haven't had any issues with the guitar, just some nice time shredding on it.

If there was any negative to point out, there is just a little bit of fret metal that's not perfectly smooth on the high notes of the guitar, not noticeable as I am playing but if your looking for the issues you can tell. Also it could just use a setup, it's not bad out of the gate as far as playability, but I can tell it can be better with some adjustments. For the price point I would not expect it to perfection, so no complaints here. I plan to take this to my guitar luthier and have him give it some love.

Great guitar

By Timothy Thompson from Allen Park, MI on March 14, 2023 Music Background: 33 years

If this guitar was 3x's the amount it would still be great. Best lower priced guitar I've ever owned, it even came pretty much set up the way I like. Beats the kramer baretta special although it's a really good guitar too. This jackson is top notch all the way around.

Exactly what I wanted!

Perfect with the wood finish, and the two separate pieces gives the body so much more depth. Super happy with the Jakson I've ever owned. ☆☆☆☆☆

Good for modders, less for beginners

By Sweetwater Customer on February 12, 2022

My experience with the Jackson JS22 Dinky DKA is with the Natural Oil finished model. I wanted a different wood than the poplar of the solid colors. I mod many of my guitars and this review is taken from that standpoint.

Jackson's tuners didn't seem very good to me; I changed them out right away as I had another set handy I bought the guitar so I could install a certain bridge and I did that. The pickups are cheap ceramic humbuckers which sound better than they might for that cost. I still intend to change them out, but I won't suffer till I do. The all-important neck is a mixed bag, with sharp fret ends (Cleaned that up a few days ago), but with good leveling, crowning and polishing. The real star of this guitar is the conical (compound) radius of the fretboard. It's my first, and I love the way it feels! The Speed Neck profile is the thinnest I've played - even more so than an Ibanez Wizard I've got.

What makes this guitar not good for beginners is a couple of things. First, the sharp frets make playing less than comfortable and beginners won't necessarily know how to deal with it. The same could be said of the vibrato unit. It came DECKED on my guitar and most beginners won't know what to do with that either. I don't recommend this axe for beginners for the reasons stated above, but if you're ready to learn about the guitar, it will make a great learning/upgrade platform!

Guitar is way underpriced - get one

By Surj from Portland on January 3, 2022 Music Background: Skidrow Bum

The unfinished look an feel I find gorgeous, yeah it wont last long but I hope it ages well and gains character. The guitar still feels like it needs a setup but very playable out of the box. The sweetwater packaging was incredibly good as it was shipped. They key is the speed neck, wow. A neck has not felt so right for so long. Yes I am happy with this "budget" guitar.

Love it

I am a beginner. This guitar is pretty good. I have no issues with it. Tunes good. Plays smooth. The body has a smooth wood finish.

Excellent guitar for beginner, pro or in-between.

I have been playing guitar for about a year and a half. I've been rolling with and Ibanez that I enjoyes (dont know what model) and it recently stopped working. Since the guitar had seen better days I decided to buy a new one rather than get it fixed. I loved this Jackson almost as soon as I saw it. I ordered it and got here with no damages. When I picked up the guitar it felt nice in my hands. I felt the quality almost immediately. This was one of the most well put together guitar I had felt. I would rather hold this than some thousand+ dollar guitar any day.

Nice Instrument

By Layton Scott Pike from arlington, TX on January 8, 2020

Mike Morgan at Sweetwater is probably getting tired of selling me guitars and amps, but I just had to try this little Jackson before I said 16 guitars was enough.
Don't worry about that price tag, this guitar is worth way more as another reviewer has stated.
Made in China by workers with pride, it seems, and arrived well packed, and believe it or not, so nearly intonated as not to be worth mentioning.
The whole instrument was dry as the desert, so I soaked it in cutting board conditioner (bees wax and food grade mineral oil), and buffed and polished till the fretboard looked wet and the body was rehydrated. Stretched the strings and tuned up.
Those little humbuckers are hot enough and I ran it through my Princeton Reverb, Champion 40 and Rumble 100 just to test drive it.
It won't insult the guitar by saying it'd be a nice starter, but it would be, especially if a guy is on the edge about getting into guitar ownership.
In Jackson language, Dinky means 7/8 the size of a Strat and I compared mine and it's true.
This guitar is available in many colors, but the pups and machine heads are the same. I just like natural wood with a satin finish.
Maybe I just got lucky that day, but I wouldn't take my money back.

killer guitar

By Danny Ray from Oroville, WA on October 11, 2021 Music Background: guitar player and music lover

Didn't work out

By Sweetwater Customer on August 7, 2021

Got it, then had to ship it back. The three way switch was bad. This was the last time I try to buy a guitar online. If I can't physically see, feel, and try it out, Forget it. This was the fifth time I tried online. It worked twice.
