Jackson JS Series RR Minion JS1X - Satin Black Reviews

Solidbody Electric Guitar with Poplar Body, Maple Neck, Amaranth Fingerboard, and 2 Humbucking Pickups - Satin Black

The Jackson JS RR Minion JS1XM solidbody electric guitar is the perfect instrument for kids or adults who are looking for an easy-playing axe. Despite its small size, this 2/3-scale poplar guitar has features you'll love. It comes loaded with two high-output humbucking pickups, 24 frets, and a lighting-fast maple neck with graphite reinforcement rods. Add those features together and you get four octaves of screaming leads and a sturdy, fluid neck that won't move as much as regularly reinforced necks. At Sweetwater, we love 2/3-scale guitars so much that many employees play them at their desks. The Jackson JS RR Minion JS1XM electric guitar proves that big tones can come in small packages.

Great price for modding! Plays sooo nice.

To make this into a shred machine I added a 41mm Gotoh top mount locking nut, a Kahler 4300 X-Trem and upgraded the string gauge to .010-.046 for adequate string tension. Viola! It's a hot-rodded shredder for us little guys! What a freaking ripper! Stays perfectly in tune and intonation now no matter how hard I abuse it. If you're looking for a hardcase it fits pretty well into a Gator Economy Jaguar case (GWE-JAG) with the slight modification of moving the neck cradle indent to the right by about 2 inches. Chugs and shreds with such ease! I love this thing!

Perfect size for me. Great price for modding.

Put a capo on the 2nd fret of a super-strat and you get a 22.5" scale guitar. I'm 5'5 with smaller hands. With this guitar I feel like Paul Gilbert and Buckethead (huge guys with huge hands) must feel with a 25.5" scale. It's the perfect fit I've been searching for with shred neck. I replaced the hard tail bridge with a Kahler 4300 X-Trem (had to shim up the neck angle a bit). Replaced the plastic nut with a Gotoh 41mm locking nut and string tree. Put .010-.046 strings on and adjusted the truss-rod. Now this is the guitar I've always wanted but no one ever made.

Sounds great!

I love it! It works best for me since I'm a beginner plus super short and small hands. Pretty nice for the first times I've bought a guitar online, it 5/5 stars for me cause it's just perfect

At this price it's impossible to criticize

I love this little guitar. It's set up well out of the box, actually better setup and more playable and better tuning stability than my Les Paul Studio. Definitely the fit and finish of an inexpensive guitar, but if you'd told me it was a $400 guitar I would believe you. If you told me it was a $1000 guitar I'd probably say you got ripped off. So it's awesome for what you pay. I'd consider upgrading pickups down the line, but they're what you'd expect at this extremely low price point. Decent. The playability and shreddability is just fine, which is extremely unusual for $.

Sub machine gun guitar

By Sweetwater Customer on December 3, 2019 Music Background: Thrash

This thing is very small but it rips! The poplar body makes it very light and that with the small size makes it feel like a very agile guitar. The aggressive pickups this guitar comes with coupled with the aforementioned features makes this little demon feel like a sub machine gun. It's small but it packs a huge punch.

The overall craftsmanship of the guitar could be better and the smaller scale may give some issues in tuning. The price cant be beaten though and jackson struck gold with this one imo.

Shredding Dream

By Sweetwater Customer on May 11, 2020

This guitar is excellent. Despite its small size, it has amazing natural sustain, is super comfortable to play, and is light weight even for its size! An excellent reminder that size matters not. It's easy to clean, and it's parts are user friendly for the less adept guitarists. Super comfortable bridge for metal musicians, and excellent tone for clean sounds.
It only looses a star due to intonation problems. I'm not sure if it's because it's a short scale, but the intonation on the lower strings is difficult. It has to be tuned PERFECTLY to sound correct. Either way, it's a problem immediately overlooked by how good it sounds, feels, and looks!

Great for the Price, but...

...I had to make a truss rod adjustment before I could play it. There was absolutely no relief in the neck,(less than .003").
After that I did a complete setup. It plays very nice for a guitar that costs less than $200.00.
A great guitar for a youngster or somebody just starting out.
