Back to Basics

By Caleb on April 23, 2024 Music Background: Hobbyist

I ordered this guitar just to have something to play for a military deployment; I was just looking for something inexpensive and didn't care much how it plays. To my pleasant surprise, this guitar is quite playable and sounds very decent. No sharp/dead frets and is lightweight. Thin neck with a flatter radius and jumbo frets are great features at this price point. Stays in tune okay, I wish they would ditch the trem and have a fixed bridge for a little extra stability, but that's a minor gripe. The pickups are hot and sound pretty good through a 5150 modeler on my PC, but they do lose a bit of clarity at higher gain. Again, that's not a huge deal at this price point. I own several more expensive guitars, but this one is a good reminder that you don't really need fancy specs to enjoy playing...just play and have fun!

Very good guitar

I bought this guitar to replace the one I was borrowing from a friend and it was exactly what I wanted. I learned on Ibanez guitars and I wanted something that was similar in feel. I love this guitar already. I paired it with a set of Earnie ball super slinky .09 - .42. I had to adjust the action a bit to stop a bit of buzzing but other than that, no problems or complaints.

Great guitar for the money

By Sweetwater Customer from NJ on October 10, 2023

I did my homework before buying this guitar, but didn't expect it to be this nice right out of the box. It was in perfect condition and I simply tuned it up and started playing no buzz on the frets, intonation was very close and stayed in tune while playing. I get all my guitars set up by a professional (not guitar center)and expect this to be even better afterwards. so for the money it's well worth it.

Great guitar

Great guitar for the money. Had to dress the frets. To remove the cheap scratchyness. But I expected that. Thats not absolutely necessary tho. You could get buy with it as is, just wanted to make them feel slicker.

Oiled the fingerboard and Put new strings on.

Adjusted the truss rod/Re-adjusted the bridge saddles action. I was able to get a scary low action before any buzzing started. Two little spots were buzzing so i raised it back up a pinch until it went away. I also put some foam in the back to stop the trem springs from resonating.

If you gave this guitar a complete fret level and crown it would be like any other high end guitar, feel wise. But you can absolutely get a low action with the out of the box fretwork no problem.

No fret ends are sharp on mine. This was a pleasant surprise considering the price of the guitar.

The tuners are great, ive had other cheap guitars where you have to He-Man the tuners to get them to rotate. These are smooth tho.

The pickups are 100% fine for the price. No electronics were noisy or scratchy on mine.

The paint job is awesome. I took a brillow pad to the back of the neck, made it a tad smoother.

Overall awesome guitar for the price. Highly recommend it if you give it a good set up. Good neck, good pickups, cool looks, good hardware, total deal.

Great Guitar for the price

By Jason Cunningham from THORNTON, CO on April 20, 2021

So I bought this to apply a Fret Zealot on it for the kiddos to star learning with. The frets are fine, the neck feels fine, the pick ups are what you'd expect for what you paid, the whole guitar in total is just fantastic for $160.00. Jackson is making a very fine beginners guitar here in my opinion. Shout out to Tomir for the great service as always. This is the 2nd guitar I've bought from Sweetwater with my 3rd on order and it looks like I'll keep coming back!

Played well right out of the box. I changed the strings, let them stretch, everything sounds great, and works as expected. Have never had a problem with any Jackson product at any price point.

Jackson Dinky JS 11

Haven't really had time to sit and really play this guitar. I did play briefly to ensure it was in workable condition. Strings seemed to buzz but maybe it's because it's brand new. It did sound good when plugged into the the Fly 2 plug amp. Visually it's a very nice looking guitar and I'm sure after I have time to sit down and really spend some time breaking it in it'll be a fine guitar. I'm satisfied with my purchase so far.The great at Sweetwater were very attentive and helpful and it arrived on time and in great condition. I will use Sweetwater in the future for sure..
