.042-.093 4-string Nickel-wound Roundwound Electric Bass Set, 32" Short Scale

Combining the satisfying “thump” of flatwound bass strings with the edginess of roundwound strings, Thomastik-Infeld’s Jazz Round Wound Bass Strings deliver sonic excellence. You’ll enjoy less finger noise and fret wear than you would with typical roundwound strings, with enough bite to still stand out in the mix. This string set is designed for lower tension compared to similar string sets, for an easy-playing feel and less strain on your instrument’s neck. If you’ve been looking for a string set somewhere between flatwound strings and roundwound strings, Sweetwater can highly recommend Thomstik-Infeld Jazz Round Wound Bass Strings.

HIGHLY recommended!

By ERGOTONE S.

The best feeling roundwounds EVER. Super smooth, and very flexible. These are nickle, so NOT super bright but still reasonably twangy. Excellent choice (perfect fit!) for Kramer Duke and similar short-scale basses.

Found my strings!

By Sweetwater Customer

Thomastik-Infeld JR324

After hundreds of dollars and hours of playing, I finally found THE best all around strings for me! Easy on the fingers, less string noise than other rounds, and a little less bright as most rounds...what I was looking for! Granted, they are pricey but based upon online research they are said to last a long time. String to string consistency is really fantastic as well. I put a set on my short scale Music Man Stingray and my G&L Fallout basses and both play and sound fantastic!

One caveat, they are for 32" scale so actually a bit long for 30" scale basses. These strings wind really easy beyond the silk so there really isn't an issue. They maintain tuning extremely well!

P.S. I put the Thomstik-Infeld short scale flats JF324 on a Sterling Stingray bass and really love those for flats!

The only string that ended up working

By cmtjossem from CA

I bought the short scale StringRay 8 months ago and I battled with finding the right strings for this bass for months. It shipped with the Reg EB Slinkys which actually are fine on the StringRay Special but on this bass they were clanky and boomy. My first inclination was to try TI flats because they accentuate the mids but still have clarity and punch. They were good honestly but this is a bass that just seemed to want rounds, so I tried GHS pressure wounds, Cobalt Slinkys, and all were misses. I then ended up trying TI JR344 rounds on my 34" jazz bass and just thought they were spectacular everything I was looking for in tone and feel in spite of the light gauge. So I took a chance and ordered the short scale version. Wow. This was the one. The low end was no longer boomy, the strings are articulate without being clangy. There is no break in period waiting to see if these are the right string, they sound great out of the package. The bass is now a joy to play and will have these strings permanently.

Thomastik-infleds have become my favorite string, they aren't always the ticket on every bass but they are right so often that I now just default to these and then go from there. For example I have one short scale P bass where the TI flats just weren't the right choice, it now has La Bella FM flats on it. My point is at this price point it feels like a risk to a lot of people so they don't give these a shot. I realize now it's a lot less expensive than going through 3 sets of strings trying to find the right set.
