What more can be said?

By Ray A from New York on August 24, 2022 Music Background: Audio Engineer / Mixer

What more can be said? If you're looking for a *passive* reamp box, the JCR is often the one which all others are compared to. Not to say it's the best reamp box that's ever been invented, but rather that it's the a great default option that's tried and true. It's one less thing to worry about.

Excellent Reamp/DI box

By Sweetwater Customer on August 5, 2022

The device works exactly as described. The ground lift feature is amazing. I love that I can use multiple input connection types. In one day's use I met my ROI for this device. Sweetwater's packaging and shipping was excellent.

Amazing.

This device is crucial in our studio now!!! It came highly recommended by Mike Picotte, as usual his direction was spot on. Quite frequently we track bass and guitars directly into ProTools or Logic and are more than pleased with our tones… we usually do this to avoid leakage based on the limitations of our room… We usually have a direct line and then an amp model track too… Well now with this little wonder box we take the Direct track, put it back out in the room and run it through (maybe some pedals too!!!) one of our amps - STUNNING RESULTS!1! Thak you Mike and Thank you SWEETWATER!!!

Works Great!

My band Sean Nolan and the Heartmakers was trying to record an album remotely and wanted the sound of our own amps/pedals. There are plenty of great amp sim plugins out there but we weren't getting the sound/feel we were looking for. This reamp box helped us get that sound/feel while not being able to record in person.
The Radial Reamp JCR has all the controls you need to reamp guitars and is "built like a tank"! I was able to plug in a get great guitar sounds immediately. Having both 1/4" and xlr inputs was a plus for me. The level control let's you push the front end of your amp, a bit harder than a guitar's volume pots, and can be a desirable effect. I personally haven't used the HPF switch, but it's a nice option to have if you find yourself tracking a guitar with a bit too much low end.

Big time saver

By Duane Matthes from Columbiana, OH on June 10, 2017 Music Background: Assistant Engineer at Wall of Shadows Studio and Session Bass Player.

First of all Radial gear is top notch. If I didn't already know where it was made I'd swear that it was made in Germany. The level of quality and attention to detail on all the Radial products I own and have uses has always impressed me.

Sound wise it's clear as a bell and dead silent. I have no issues with output level like I've had with certain other manufactures which will remain nameless. Also after using a couple different active reamp boxes I prefer the passive version. It's much more quiet. This box isn't at all expensive and works great. I can now reamp at home instead of running to the main studio.

For me this box is a big time saver. I live in a bit of a noisy location. I prefer to work from home but with trains and trucks around most of the day the noise can ruin a good take. Now I can record my guitars and bass direct and wait until all the train and truck traffic dies down for the day and reamp at my convenience.

If there is session ruining noise when reamping I just have to hit rewind and reamp again since I already recorded my great take direct earlier in the day! That saves me a lot of time and frustration.

The only thing that I would have liked to see done differently was the plastic jacks. I would have preferred to see all metal ones. However the plastic isn't that cheap stuff you find in other brands and I seriously doubt they will wear out any time soon under normal use. The bottom line is if you have a situation similar to mine of just want the flexibility to reamp at a later time get one of these. You won't be sorry.

Very Accurate

By Max from San Jose, CA on January 9, 2016 Music Background: Producer, Drummer, Guitarist

Tracking guitars, I always want to have the option of coming back later to tweak the amp tone and try different mic positions, so I always record a direct in. Reamping with a line signal is a no-no because of the noise, so I decided to get this.

My first order of business was to figure out where unity level was, and for my unit, it was 4.5 ticks away from maximum. Being able to dial in the perfect level and having the visual indicator to be able to set it again is a great feature.

Second thing I did was to run a few tracks from my DAW to the interface -> TRS -> XLR input of the Reamp, and then out through the TS -> back into the interface direct to see just how accurate the signal is.

With the ground lift on and the phase inverted, I was able to get close to a perfect copy of the original waveform. (Yes, with the phase switch off, the phase of the wave coming back in was inverted, so make sure to run some tests!) Running the tracks through my amp, I was very happy to hear very low noise, especially with the ground lift switch engaged, as I've been dealing with ground loop issues during recording and reamping. In my DAW, the copied signal had no noticeable latency when I zoomed in to compare the original direct vs the new signal. Best of all, when I inverted the phase of the copied track and played it with the original, there was barely any sound being played from my DAW which indicated the fact that the waveforms were close enough to each other that inverting one signal would cancel out so much of the other.

I'm very impressed by how accurate this is, and sets my mind at ease because reamping is no longer a compromise on tone!

solid unit with various uses

By bern from L. A. on April 12, 2013 Music Background: Example: Recording Engineer, Live Sound Engineer, Pro Musician, Hobbyist, Student, etc)

This unit is not only for guitar re-amping. I have used it to eliminate ground hum when sending an aux feed to a mixing board for a PA, and the volume control allows new interface uses.

The perfect studio guitarist!

By Jared Kotler from Philadelphia, PA on April 5, 2012 Music Background: Producer

For 2 years I was thinking of buying a REAMP. I even wired my console with a patch point to an XLR with REAMP engraved on it. But... still, I mic amps, get sounds and record. Sometimes with a DI, but usually not. I am a huge believer in committing to a sound, after all I was raised on 24 tracks. Finally, with an important session, and time an issue I called my guy at Sweetwater and said send me one.

Like most parents say when they have a kid, they wish they did it sooner... same thought here. I got a great direct sound for the session, some amp sounds for his headphones and all was well. Next day I edited the takes made a comp and sent out the guitar through my labeled patch point into the reamp and it was absolutely transformational. How could I have waited so long to record this way? I got the perfect tone, placed the mic perfectly taking the time I needed, playing select parts to make sure the amp reacted appropriately under each dynamic, and when it was all done, command + spacebar... and finished. Perfection! It's the only way I will ever record guitar from this moment forward, and I have been doing this for 25 years! Honestly, a paradigm shift. Amazing!
