The most versatile rig I’ve ever owned

By Fred Hoffner from YUMA, AZ on April 15, 2024 Music Background: Working musician

I have been using the JC-120 a boss SY-1000 with an Ibanez S with the "Edge-Zero II Tremolo with ZPS3Fe Zero Point" and GK pickup for a year now. The SY-1000 is run into a 2 bus sub-mixer and sent to the mains and also sent to the effect returns on the JC-120. There is master volume for the amp on my mic stand.
I gig 3 to 4 days a week. I play the full gamut of covers from classic and modern country, oldies and modern rock to disco and funk to jazz. Sometimes I need alternate tunings. This is the first rig I have ever had that can really do it all, and that is no exaggeration.
If you are sculpting your sounds with a pedal board the JC-120 will exceed expectations.

One of the best clean amps on the market

By Tony Hartley from NC on February 2, 2024 Music Background: Praise band guitar

I bought one of these right after they came out. It has the best chorus out there. The distortion is something most complain about but I don't use it. It is as clean as they come. I have talked to several former owners and everyone of them regret turning loose this amp. I am now using a Helix through mine and no complaints.

Legendary metallica amp

I finally found the one amp that actually completely changed the game. You can sound like or even identical to Metallica and put this amp to its full potential.

The "Distortion" Channel is Fine *** Amazing Amp!

By KC from Ohio on April 11, 2023 Music Background: 30 years of guitar experience

I've been playing a Vintage (1980) JC120 for a few years now. I play a lot of different styles of music - from totally clean to Jazz, to Hard Rock. I've got a board that's equipped with good pedals and have most of the effects most everyone else has. I run a stereo rig and the other amp is a Fender Twin. The main reason I'm writing this review is not to keep praising on the clean tone, build quality, amazing chorus and sheer volume. All of these things have been said in spades already - it truly is an amazing sounding amp. It's not as loud as the Twin but once you get to those volumes it's all a moot point anyway. This amp is PLENTY LOUD.

What I actually wanted to talk about is the "distortion" that people keep bashing and saying how terrible it is. Keep in mind what this amp was designed to play - JAZZ - it says "JAZZ" in the name. If you know anyone who really plays Jazz and is in Jazz circles - you'll find that they often actually do use overdrive. They use the overdrive for no other purpose than to slightly color the tone, usually pushing the midrange forward a little bit and adding a small amount of compression/sustain. If people who play rock would listen to their "overdriven" tone we would say "that's a clean tone".

This is what the "distortion" knob on a JC series amp is doing and Roland got this spot-on. In fact, I think the only flaw in this amp is when Roland called this control "distortion". It should be called something like "Thickness" or "Sustain". It's not distortion like most people think of distortion. It's designed for a low output pickup - something that's not slamming the front of the amp like a dump truck (think PAFs). It's taking the signal and just bringing it up slightly to give it some extra warmth and sustain - that's it and no more. People praise the amazing clean tone my amp has. For this beautiful sound my "distortion" knob is on 6 and my volume is rolled back to about half way on the guitar - AMAZING CLEAN TONE.

Trying to use this distortion knob for anything more than what I said above sounds totally awful - truly bad as people have said. It's like spilling a box of cheerios on your kitchen floor and using a pair of tweezers to clean them up - it's the wrong tool for the job. It doesn't mean tweezers have no use - just not for that job. If you want crunch and dirt - use a good pedal, some boost and EQ and let it rip. This amp will melt faces or put a newborn baby to sleep - it's your choice if you use it right. Thanks.

Don’t hesitate

By Sweetwater Customer on August 17, 2021

If you're looking at reviews because you need a loud clean amp, the JC120 is second to none. Worth every penny! Mine is currently being used in my studio but I can't wait to play a gig with it. Best combo out there!

Long haul is right!

By Jerry Suhar from Cleveland, Ohio on July 30, 2021

I've been using a JC120 for 40 years. Never had a repair! Same today as day one. Played a thousand one nighters with this amp. I play either my original 59 ES 335 or my Guild x175 through it. I wouldn't want another amp

JC-120: the real deal

By Frank from Lawrence Kansas on July 11, 2021 Music Background: Reggae keys, rock guitars, funk basses, and pop drums!

Everything you say is true and leaves little to add. Even bands as exacting as King Crimson have toured with as many as three JC-120's on stage at a time. I'm sure there are other transistor guitar amps that are excellent, but only the JC-120 is recognized as a classic.

However I'd take just a small exception to the phrase "Unchanged from its original specification." In fact the JC-120's gone through possibly seven revisions, with variations in the preamp circuit, chorus circuit, used three or four different speakers, perhaps four back panel designs and at least two front-panel designs. Interestingly, though, there's little talk to be found of people liking one generation but not liking another. Quality hasn't changed either. So they're not better or worse, and they're not even that different.

A must have if you are into tone seeking

By Jose Rodriguez from North Andover, MA on June 10, 2021 Music Background: Guitar aficionado

I had this amp before and I had to sold it and now I have it again. This is the best clean tone ever and if you have Fender Stratocasters they are a match made in heaven.

About the JC-120

By Drew Jones from Mocksville, NC on March 13, 2021 Music Background: Currently recording at home due to COVID.

Back in 1983, when I was 14, I saved up and got my first JC-120. I kept it for the longest time and eventually got another one in 1995. Sadly, I had to sell them both when I got married in order to pay for some things. Just recently, I ordered a new one from Sweetwater.

Before I get into things, I'd like to give a warm shout-out to Ben Porter, whom I've dealt with for several years now. He has always been one of the most polite and informative sales representatives I've ever had the pleasure of doing business with. Not only does he work for Sweetwater, but he's a musician as well. He understands the needs of a musician.

Now, I'm writing my review a little early because I haven't actually received my amplifier yet. That's how much I trust Sweetwater. Their services and packaging have always been highly rated by me. While I could have ordered the amp from a competitor who had it in stock, I chose to order, knowing up-front that there would be a delay on Roland's part.

Introduced in 1975, the JC-120 was the first of its kind in the amp world. Most amps were tube amps, though there were a few transistor types around. The thing that made this amp popular was due to being the first to employ chorus effects. No other amp had this effect at the time. By doubling the input and detuning the doubled sound, they produced an iconic, lush chorus that still cannot be beaten, even today.

The difference between the JC-120 chorus and what you might find in a pedal or rack unit is that there is no speed or depth control to it. Those knobs are for the vibrato only. The chorus does not modulate the pitch, it uses a static detuning setting. While there have been minor changes over the years in terms of features, such as the addition of the bright switch, stereo loops and outputs, and upgrades in internal components, little has changed about the amp overall. You still get the exact same sound you did in the early days.

Due to some changes in the circuitry, the newer models have a small degree more hiss than the earlier models. However, this is only noticeable when you aren't playing and can be equalized away. The guitar is a mid-range instrument and the controls are passive, which means they are cut-only, and cannot boost. Setting everything to 50% and adjusting from there is a bad practice, as you end up cutting your frequencies a lot. It's better to start with your Treble, Mid, and Bass controls at 100% and start there. I find that rolling the bass down to 60% works well for avoiding clashes with the bassist, lowering the Treble to 80% is good for taking a little sharpness off, but leave the mids at 100%. That's where your meat is. Leave the bright switch off, unless there are multiple guitarists and you need to cut through the mix, or if the venue is just really dark. If you do this, you'll find that you'll have a full rich sound without the hiss. The bright switch gives a little boost to the ultra-high frequencies, which can give you more presence, but at the same time, it can clash with cymbals and the upper keyboard range. Isolating your instrument range is the better practice.

One additional note, if you're considering a tube amp. If you use pedals, either before the amp or in the loop, you're negating the benefits of the valves right off the bat. All these pedals use transistors, even the Tube Screamer has them in its circuits. Doing this only "transistorizes" your valve amp. So, if you are only using your amp to boost the sound from a pedalboard, and just need faithful sound reproduction, this is the amp for you. It has immense headroom, full-range response, and the cleanest sound you've ever heard.

In summary, I'd just like to say that the JC-120 is, always has been, and always will be, my amp of choice.

Clean Dream

By Sweetwater Customer on November 26, 2020

Far exceeded my expectations. Powerful EQ to shape your tone. With pedals, I've been able to get British and American sounds. Frequency response is more like full range, so use the EQ and pedals to taste. The included pop in wheel casters are a life saver.

Lo mejor en fidelidad

By Sweetwater Customer on September 20, 2020

Brilliant clean tone foundation

By CC from Los Angeles, CA on January 9, 2020 Music Background: Amateur

I start w/ great clean then add OD & fuzz among other pedals, but needs to start out with a really good clean tone first. I've tried low watt tube combos but the clarity and punch isn't there. Those small combos are fine for blues leads but you want to start with a clean canvas, not a dirty one.
Does Roland make this chorus in a pedal? They should.

I've Owned One for 20+ Years. Durable, Versatile, Affordable.

By Ryan Young from Elmhurst, IL on December 31, 2019

In 1996, at age 15, I saved up and bought a JC-120 as my first pro-quality amp. It has been through hundreds of band practices and dozens of shows, has doubled as a vocal and/or keyboard amp at full stage volume, and been through more than a half dozen moves through four states. The only thing I've had to repair or replace were the casters.

Good solid state designs like this one are near-zero maintenance, can survive getting knocked around, and they age well. A drawback is that the JC-120's built-in distortion is unusable. Fortunately, it works well with pedals.

My default tone for years and years was the JC-120 paired with a Tube Screamer and a delay pedal or two. I've had trouble finding a good high-gain pedal for this amp, but MXR's EVH 5150 Overdrive works well with certain guitars. And that famous clean tone and chorus sound even better in person.

Worth noting - I was surprised to find that JC-120s have gone down in inflation-adjusted price.

By AB from NC on March 22, 2019 Music Background: Professional. Jazz fusion, blues.

Truly extraordinary amp. Arrived with the tone controls set at 12 o"clock. Plugged in my hollowbody and got a perfect tone without touching a knob. Very nice reverb, and the chorus, well... insane. Valve or solid state this is one of the best tones of any amplifiers anytime anywhere. No question.

Stunning Clarity

By Sweetwater Customer on February 24, 2019

This is going to be short... 100% satisfied and completely overwhelmed by the natural mid tones and clarity of this amp. A great foundation for my pedal structure and recording... it pulls your ear toward it, instead of pushing at you. The next step... running in full stereo with another identical JC-120. This can only be amazing! Don"t let the "Jazz" in the name restrict your thought process toward this versatile well rounded high quality instrument/amp.

...i"ve put off buying this amp for many years...big mistake...it should of been the first amp I purchased lol...many amps late, tube/valve and transistor I have finally found what i"ve been looking for...clean,spanky, articulate, punchy, sparkling and warm...my consistent tone that is ready always as soon as I plug in and turn it on......stereo 60 Watts per side, loud enough for any gig yet can get bedroom volume too...stereo effects loop for spacious, enveloping sound scapes...the main reason I didn"t get this amp earlier was really to do with that I"ve purchased a Mesa,a few fenders and the JC 40 first and was convinced it was all I needed......I play funk, blues, rock and some metal and with my effects setup it does it all...drummer loves the sound and the audience have on a few occasions have said what a nice guitar sound i have, which is always good to hear that feedback...downside: it"s heavy...but it"s got rollers and not as heavy as a twin lol...the first time you play it and turn the chorus on you will play purple haze and walking on the moon then you"ll keep playing the rest of the day......just buy it, it will always be in your set up or life somehow...

I have had many amps in my life....and I have had many guitars....I still have a few amps and a bunch of guitars and one thing is for sure.... no matter which guitar I plug into my JC-120 it sounds GREAT!!!....as long as you are looking for the best clean tone you can find....it is the only amp that tube snobs accept as being legitimate. Just dont try to get distortion of any kind out of her....the on board distortion sucks eggs and it doesnt like pedals but thats why I have my Blackstar HD Stage 60 MKII.....lol......pair them up in the studio or onstage and you have everything you need to rock the night away!!!!

The "Holy Grail" of Clean Guitar Tone

By Reggie Moses from Arlington, VA on April 4, 2018 Music Background: PT Pro Guitarist

Since 1985 I have owned 4 Roland JC-120's. I just keep going back to them. There's a reason for this.
This amp is super consistant. Dial it in & it's gonna sound the same everywhere & anywhere you play.
The reverb is spectacular. It's really special. The built in Chorus is the standard by which any & all chorus devices will be judged. The Chorus effect it's self stands alone. There is a reason this amp is in EVERY studio: it sounds good as hell. Sure it's an 1980's era amp. Sure it weighs 65 lbs. Having said that I defy you to find a cleaner amp. The only amp that's even close is a "good" Fender Twin Reverb. But that amp weighs 80 lbs. Don't get me wrong, I like tube amps. I own a 100 watt PRS Archon w/ a matching 2X12 Cabinet. Nice amp for playing Rock music. The Roland JC-120 is versatile, it covers a lot of ground.
THIS AMP LOVES PEDALS ! For Rock gigs I use my PRS Archon, for EVERYTHING else I use my Roland JC-120. This amp has taught me one important lesson: a clean tone is an effect unto it's self.
This amp is so clean, it's unforgiving. This amp is so clean it will expose you for the guitarist that you really are.The Roland JC-120: the "Polygraph" of Guitar Amps.

Roland JC-120

By Josh from Alabama on February 7, 2018 Music Background: Rock n roll guitar player x 30 years

This amp is the best clean amp I have ever heard. I was very impressed. It is a very warm amp. All that SRV stuff sounds extremely accurate through this. It has that crystal clear, glassy kind of sound. I have heard the JC vs Twin reverb argument a lot and I think the JC is better for me because it never sounds bad. It has a core sound that can be modified but stays pretty much the same. I think that is why I like it so much. On Fender style tube amps you can change the core sound with the EQ. They can sound really bad or really good based off minimal treble adjustment. Few people are talented enough to always find that sound. With the roland you never get a bad sound. A guy on a message board asked how to get the Metallica clean sound on one because that is what those guys use and some guy responded "You just turn it on. It is harder to not get the James Hetfield tone on a Roland JC amp then it is to get it." I think that sums it up.

Roland JC-120 is the truth!

By Musicman on January 23, 2018 Music Background: Guitarist

Musical Greetings,

I have owned a Roland JC-120 for years now and i can assure you that this amplifier is the most consistent amp that i have ever experienced, which is why it will never be for sale. It's clear and crisp sound cannot be matched by any other amplifier - but don't take my word for it just drop by a music store which sells this amp and test it for yourself if not, cool there is a string of videos online with detailed reviews in accordance with this amp.

This amp works superb with pedals as it has been consistent with my pedal board and currently my Boss ME-80.

This amp is one of best amps you can purchase right with my other amp. (Marshall Silver Jubilee 2555X re-issue head and cab combo.ha). I can confirm all the 5-star reviews written about this amp.

In contrast, my review is not all sunshine and roses. I would say that the only downfall with this amp is the distortion on it - so i reccomend you use your pedals for a distortion effect because the distortion on this amp is well let's just say that this function sounds funny and should never be used...that's all!

If you ever purchase one of these amps than you better come back and write a review on it so more people can know of it's existence.

Regards,

The JC-120: Simply Perfect

By Branyon Jones from Atlanta, GA and Columbia, SC on December 16, 2017 Music Background: Professional Guitarist

Throughout my journey as a guitarist I have encountered many amps that produce euphoric tones with the ability to transport one"s soul to tone heaven. None of those heavenly amps even come close to the awesome sound, texture, and quality of the Roland JC-120. This amp is so pristine and beautiful that you not only hear it… you feel it. The built-in chorus effect of this amp is so amazing that there really is no reason to ever cut it off. But if you do cut it off, the natural clean and vibrato tones are so rich and full of warmth that you will never go without satisfaction. I beg each of you who are considering this amp to do yourself a favor and make it a part of your rig. You will fall in love at first note.
Grandiose words aside, this amp is perfect. It delivers the natural tone of your guitar with a presence that is out of this world. With or without pedals, it sounds wonderful. Additionally, it is built like a tank. I have never seen an amp as well made as this one. Now that I have a JC-120, all other amps disappoint me. I guarantee, if you purchase it for yourself, you will feel the same. Roland has crafted an amp here which, in my opinion, no other amp can match. Truly, the bar has been set.
I hope this review helps you in your decision-making process. Once again, if you go with the Roland JC-120, you will experience a sound like no other and you will embark on a musical journey that is invigorating, inspiring, and truly epic!

Solid and Versatile

By Robb Free from Cleveland Area on December 25, 2016 Music Background: Everything but metal

This amp is simple yet effective. Super clean solid state works well with my wheelhouse...soul, funk, jazz, and classic rock. It also sounds darn good on my pedal steel and my tele when I get to twangin it up. It is very pedal friendly and already has the best chorus circuit built into it. It gigs well and you don't HAVE to mic it (like my old fender amp) so that's a plus. It has good bass for standalone performances and plays loops well, doesn't get muddy like a tube amp with my 5-6 loops going on over it. At the end of the day it's a must have amp if you want clean funky tone that can get jazzy in a heartbeat.

The Best Clean Amp ever made IMO

By Steve from Upstate NY on February 16, 2016 Music Background: Been playing for 20+years

Not only do I think it is the best clean amp but the chorus is the best I have ever heard from any amplifier including tube amps. They are second to non but a word of caution I have looked at several from the 80's and the buzz you hear when you turn it on is almost deafening. So if your buying used be aware of this flaw. The new ones don't really compare with the quality of the older models. They are by far the best solid state amp on the market today and still revered by most musicians as a "must have" amp. They are in a class all their own and probably always will be!

By Whitney from maple valley, wa on January 28, 2015 Music Background: Guitar player, concert production

I first saw/heard this amp in California circa 1985. I was in a college band, as were some of my friends and the guitarist from one of those bands bought one.

It got instant thumbs down from the "old skool" guys who refuse to even consider an amp that didn't have tubes galore.

What I have discovered over the years is that tons of guitarists whose style and tone drew me to their bands were actually playing a JC-120.

The JC-120 is the Nile Rodgers of guitar amps (if it's got some funky chords - it's either him playing or producing or both, whether Bowie's Let's Dance (SRV did the lead), or Chic's Le Freak

The JC-120's built in chorus is THE chorus that all others are measured by imnsho.

SHIMMERING.

The tremolo and reverb are also excellent

This amp sounds AWESOME played nice and loud and the clean with NOT crack. It can blast CLEAN guitar tone

Best Solid state amp!

I first got turned on to this amp by accident . Anyways I was fixing one of these for a friend that goes to church who found this amp underneath the stage of the church. He said its been there for 10years and its definitely been beat up and neglected cause I had to replace two broken input jack.
After replacing the input jacks, I fired up the amp and it works great! I put a Boss BD-2 in front of it and it sounded great! I borrowed it for one rehearsal and one weekend gig and I was impress as well as got a lot of complements on my sound.
Two weeks later I bought one new online and been a JC120 user for 8+ years now and no issues or whatsoever. High quality, very reliable, pedal friendly, gig ready, versatile, and very Loud! it is kinda heavy but that's a very minor issue. buy it now! and also buy a cover....

I used to own a JC-120 back in the 1980s that was commondeered by my son when he started playing guitar in the 1990s, never to be seen again. So, recently, while reforming a band with several great musicians I had the pleasure of playing with in the past, I realized that I needed a smaller and more portable, yet powerful, amp for gigging in smaller venues (my Marshall 1/2 stack is just too big and cumbersome to use in smaller venues), I immediately looked for this amp. I have to say Roland has really improved the quality of this amplifier since the 1980s! I'd give it 10 stars if I could!

I heard a lot of good things about this amp and they are all true... Clarity, power and an amazing sounding chorus.

The distortion doesn't always get good reviews but I find it useful for getting a 'bite' to my sound without totally changing its character.

I bought my JC-120 in 1986 to replace a Musicman amp. I've never wanted another amp since. Best clean sound around, best chorus ever and works well with modern effects processors such as the Boss GT-8 Pro and also as a guitar synth amp. Plenty of volume for just about any venue. If you are considering the JC-120, you're definitely on the right path.

but overall a good..can adapt to any setup u have..and stereo channels is a plus since most multi-effect pedals work better in stereo..
i am trying to get one soon for my own..despite the weight..i think they discontinued the JC-90 and 70.

A review

By Robert Carafa from Edinboro, PA. on August 7, 2013 Music Background: Hobbyist

The JC-120 is an amplifier with no peer, at least for clean tones, err, more like chorused-clean tones rather.

Its chorus must be heard to be believed, you simply never knew that the effect could sound so vital and alive in a guitar amplifier! its influence will quickly trickle into everything you play and depending on how good you are, totally rise your (clean) tone and playing to another level. It will also humorously highlight ALL of your mistakes better than any amp I can recall...some folks think is one of the very best things about this amp, as it forces you to maintain a high degree of control throughout your session.

The distortion is quite simply the worst I have ever heard and is nearly worthless! Though I've read how some people like to use it as a mid-range boost. I'm just going pretend it doesn't exist and be happy with everything else. This amp isn't much for crunch either and I do not believe it is capable of any kind of overdrive without a pedal.

Owning the JC-120 means you're getting what is quite possibly the very best clean tone in existence, even high-end tube amps cannot reproduce the harmony contained within.

The JC-120 and the Fender Twin Reverb are the two twin poles of the professional guitar world, each representing the final stage of amplifier technology. Never to be surpassed or duplicated. So get one or the other and never look back.

great amp. i remember "spinal tap" saying about the knob that "goes to 11". well you dont need that with this because at 1 or 1-1/2 it is loud enough to as bob would say "disturb my neighbors". used by some remarkable guitarists on countless albums throughout the past decades. I really like it even with my mid to lower line ibanez strung up with heavy gauge george benson jazz strings. the amp's chorus vibrato with small amounts of it's reverb and distortion sounds super with delay. i like how it works for slide pickin. only wish is that channel one had some tubes on-board.

I was amp shopping, and happend to give this amp a try, next to a marshall. I was amazed at the clarity and high fi that came out of this amp. And not that fake tiny sound you hear from most solid state amps trying to be bright. this is the real deal. the marshall tube amp had bite, but it could not hold a candle to the fidelity of this amp. its like a vail has been removed from my guitar sound. I use outboard distortion pedal and fx, and they still sound great through this, every detail is noticed. a great purchase

Defines Chorus

By Javier Martinez from Deltona, FL on January 9, 2016

This amp has the best sounding chorus effect I have ever heard for a guitar. The vibe effect is pretty awesome too, but the chorus can not be beat. The distortion is nothing to brag about, but may be useful to some. This is definitely a natural jazz amp, but you could easily shut off it's personnel effects and apply your own to turn it into whatever type of amp you want cause it has extreme power. The hiss issue is true, but only applies while not playing; I have never noticed it while playing. There are two negative issues about this amp. First is the weight; this is the heaviest combo amp around and extremely difficult to move without wheels. Second is, any amp you try after this will not impress you. I used to love to go to guitar shops and try out several amps. Now it's just a waist of time because nothing matches it's sound. I give it a 4 because of the hiss and the limited maneuverability. But the price is well worth it. It is built like a tank and other amps will feel like cardboard boxes after you try this, not just because of the weight, but the material and the way it is built.

i bought this amp for the legendary clean sound and was not let down. it has an amazing full clean chorus. this amp does have a slight hiss to it that cannot be removed even with best noise gates.if you research this issue online you will find out this is common for this amp. i gave this a 4 out of 5 because of the hiss and the pricey tag on this combo.

Bought 2 in 1976. Ironically they are not all the same but still have them. Beautiful clean sound! Great with rx5. Yep the Yamaha epic machine.

Returned

I own a JC 40 which I absolutely love, but the JC 120 I received sounded spikey, unpleasantly high pitched and irritating. After a half hour or 40 minutes of trying to dial in a good tone with 6 different guitars, hollow, semi hollow and solid body with no pedals or processors with single coil and humbuckers, I decided to return the amp. I have more than 4 decades experience and I know how to dial in the tone to my liking and as I said, I have a JC 40.

reviewing the JC 120

By Phil Jackson from Spokane,Wa USA on October 1, 2004

I've been using tube amps since 1962.Everytime I tried a solid state, whether it be a "valvestate" or whatever title the amp companies used to fool the "tube playing" public. Not an easy group to be swayed for sure.I wasn't!Peavy came out with "transtube" and I have to admit the feel of tube response is there with these amps but the tone isn't really 100% there.Sorry Peavy.

The JC 120,doesn't try to emulate the tube sound.Although I find the distortion mode useful it is not a tube sound nor does it claim to be.The biggest asset the JC 120 has to offer is pure clean sound(no faking it with this box).If you play a Les Paul through

the clean channel you are going to get the pure sound of of your prized Les Paul! Unobstructed by distortion .There's none. I for one love it and without the aid of distortion I have grown to be a much better and more accurate player.I owe this to JC 120.I know it is not only fun but needed on sone tunes to use a "brown sound" tone. This makes the JC perfect again!Because it is so clean if used in conjuction with a stomp box,you will be pleasantly surprised. You will hear the stompbox, your guitar and your fingers (or style),With out the noisy high gain buzz from your tube amp.As for playing Jazz or Comping chords, the tones are almost aural excited, with a smimmer even a Twin or AC30 cannot emulate."PLAY CLEAN AND YOU WILL BE MEAN". If there is a better(lighter) amp let me know at philviss@hotmail.com Oh yeah the 1 criticism I have is(small potatos) is it weights too much. And I didn't even mention the lush chorus.Although it is nonadjustable,I don't know-its sounds so pretty-if I would adjust it if I could. The best chorus by far and its in stereo as is the vibrato. This effect I don't use as often. But if adjusted intellegently it too sounds killer.Maybe not like a surf sound but closer to an Abby Road "White Album" kinda sound, lovely.Sorry I've babbled on for ever.If anyone disagrees or has bad experiences with this fab amp email me at philviss@hotmail.com
