My Experience with Sweet Water sales
Purchased my bass and absolutely love the sound and playing ability. From the first time I plugged it in I knew immediately I had made the correct choice. My old bass was good but just didn't come up to the standard of what I want in sound, my Fender surpassed all my hopes. Nick the fella who helped me really took his time and much appreciated. Even phone calls I have made to Sweet Water I have never been disappointed with the help I have recieved. My purchase was the Fender Player jazz bass with sunburst finish.
Subtleties matter
I bought this Bass on a trip to the Sweetwater store. Lucky for me, I live only two hours from Fort Wayne and it was worth the trip. This was a big decision for me and a major upgrade. I had a short list and Michael Pobuck was super helpful. He set me up in a demo room, where I plugged six different basses into a Fender Rumble 100 amp and played away. I had a short list of basses to try. It was most interesting to me that the two finalists were this J Bass and the same J Bass with a maple neck. The difference in tone from the Pao Ferro fretboard was, to me, more appealing than the Maple fretboard. I liked the calmer, rounder sound...the maple was clearly brighter. I made the call and bought it after making notes on all six basses I played. Three weeks later, I'm even more pleased with it. The clarity and depth is just terrific, even more so as I dial in the bridge settings and the equalization in the two venues in which I play. Plus, it looks as good as it sounds. The Fender J Bass is a classic for a reason and I'm not at all disappointed. Super grateful for the buying experience.
Highly recommended
I spent months trying different basses. I settled on a Fender Jazz as my ideal for feel and sonic footprint. I tried the American Jazz but I preferred the Player's modern-C neck shape and the medium jumbo frets. If you also add on the cost savings, it was clear that the Player Jazz was what I needed and wanted. I looked at Sweetwater's units for sale for the 3-tone sunburst and pau ferro fingerboard. I found one with a dark fretboard and consistent grain. After the wait period when the Jazz arrived, I found the bass to be better than expected. The bass looked better in-person than the pictures. The bass is amazingly resonant. The setup was quite decent. No sharp frets, dings, scratches, need for a truss rod adjustment, etc. I did tweak the pickup height of the bridge pickup down just a bit for taste. I later bought a third-party tortoise pickguard because the 3-tone sunburst screams for tort. The bass plays exceptionally fast. It invites you to shred. This bass might change your playing style. ;)
I have had the bass for more than 6 months now. The "honeymoon" never ended with this bass guitar. That says something quite positive.
Kudo's to Fender and Sweetwater!
A great jazz bass and even better customer service
This is a great jazz bass that I believe offers the best bang for the buck and comes with exceptional custom service from Sweetwater.... I would have put the squire classic vibe as the best bang for buck if it wasn't for the glossy neck but of course that is a matter of preference.. Consider for a moment if you upgrade the bridge to a fender hi-mass and a set of fender ultra noiseless pickups add in the tusq nut or bone if you prefer you now have pretty much a cross between and American professional 2 and ultra..
Nice
Great punchy tones. Played fine right out of the box. Just needed some minor tweeks on the action.
Incredible
I am a beginning bassist, but a long-time musician. This bass sounds incredible, even in my inexperienced hands. I could not be happier.
I HIGHLY recommend getting the PLEC treatment on your instrument! Once the 24-hour "let the bass breathe after it's trip" period, I pulled it out and it was like butter. Me, no calluses, not a lot of experience, and it had THAT SOUND, and so easy to play.
Ya gotta love this bass
The Fender Jazz bass is a beautiful instrument. Sweetwater, as always, did a fabulous job. The instrument had no flaws and the setup was perfect. Sweetwater did such a great job prepping it for shipment that I think it was better insulated than my house! The sound is beautiful and I couldn't be more pleased.
SO WORTH IT!!
EXCELLENT Fender Jazz bass! The price is VERY affordable and the quality certainly passes the price! The sound is amazing, the neck is incredible, it's length is masculine, and it's a well made jazz bass overall. I purchased a higher priced Fender (not the same model) and I returned it and went back to this one. It's SO worth it! In my opinion, the "next step" (in no way do I mean to take anything away from this one) would be a custom only if you wanted a color or accessory that this line doesn't offer. I HIGHLY recommend it!
Beautiful instrument
It had everything, the tone, the feel, the look. Coming from a bass with active electronics, the hum was a little adjustment but totally worth it.
Great buy!
Excellent sound and extremely comfortable. Hard to beat the quality & price on this monster. As always Tom took care of us. Definitely recommend this product.
Fender must be cannibalizing their American sales...
First off, Thank you Ben Jimenez for your recommendation on this bass. (If you're looking for help specifically on bass and guitar, he's an amazing resource) It's a beautiful instrument, the wood grain and paint work are world class. Fretwork is really good. I was going to buy a P Bass but after working with Ben, and considering the tonal options that a J Bass can provide, I'm glad I went with the J.
- I'm swapping out the pickups for Aguilar Hum Canceling (Also heard these at Gearfest and fell in love with the tone. Stock pickups are not terrible)
- Adding an Emerson Tone Control (As expected the stock tone controls might as well be on or off switches)
- Added some Rotosound 77s, (stock strings must be rejects from a piano factory, I could not keep them in tune at all)
- I'm also probably going to add a tortoise or pearl pick guardl.
Picked up at Gearfest this year. What a fantastic first bass. I was ready to spend more but really felt like I never needed to, the quality is that good.
Nice bass
I like this bass a lot, it's light weight 8 1/2 lbs, the finish is flawless and has a great feel. The hardware is good, works smoothly. This bass has really good tone also. I put Labella flat wounds on it and love it. The guitar is worth the money.
Love the Bass
I love my new Player Jazz. Great JBass sound and playability for a great price. only gripe is the frets are VERY sharp. had great service at Sweetwater's Store.
