Fender American Vintage II 1966 Jazz Bass - Seafoam Green Reviews

4-string Electric Bass, with Alder Body, Maple Neck, Rosewood Fingerboard, and 2 Single-coil Pickups - Seafoam Green

When you take an American Vintage II 1966 Jazz Bass for a test drive, you’ll be impressed by its vintage tone and outstanding playability. A member of Fender’s American Vintage II series, the bass consists of period-accurate components that perfectly mirror those found on a real-deal ’66 J-Bass. This 4-string bass features an offset, contoured alder body and a super comfortable “U”-shaped maple neck. It comes loaded with two Pure Vintage ’66 single-coil J-Bass pickups that perfectly reproduce the biting thump of that model year. Other Sweetwater-approved vintage features include the 7.25-inch round-laminated rosewood board, fingerboard binding, 4-saddle bridge, and “lollipop” tuning keys. There’s a lot to like about the Fender American Vintage II 1966 Jazz Bass, and we’re just scratching the surface.

The non-signature Geddy Lee signature jazz bass...

By Sweetwater Customer on February 20, 2023

While I don't own one, nor have I played one of these before... having pointed out the details that I did, you KNOW this bass is going to be top notch. Although, I'm almost positive that Geddy's is a '63, while this one is basically a '66 reissue

Almost exactly what I was looking for!

By Antonio from Colorado on June 7, 2023

After owning and playing this bass regularly for some time now, I've grown very fond of it. I replaced the guard with a white/mint guard which is what you'd normally find on a custom-color bass from that time. It's nice that it comes with the vintage covers, I'm going to install them on mine, as I like the bridge cover. It also comes with the foam mute that would go under the bridge cover to mute the strings, that is a nice attention to detail. The neck is very comfortable, and the weight is perfect for me. It's funny that this came out, because my dream bass was a '65/'66 Jazz bass in foam green, matching headstock with a bound fretboard and pearl dot inlays!

My only two gripes with this bass are that the pots are kinda trash, and I prefer the flash-coat lacquer finish that came on the 2012-2017 American vintage guitars/basses.

The volume and tone pots had almost ZERO taper. Having a volume pot for each pickup means you're able to blend them to taste, which I found myself not really being able to do since again, there was no taper. It was either off, quiet, or full blast and nothing in between. I ended up getting an Emerson ore-wired Jazz Bass kit and changed the pots, that solved the problem and this bass absolutely opened up! Side note: I put flat-wound strings, and I believe that's where the sound really is.

I highly recommend this bass, as it IS an American-made instrument with vintage specs, and '66 is a year not too often replicated by Fender. '65/'66 are my favorite years for the Jazz bass, as I adore the binding on the neck and the pearl dot inlays.

Overall a great bass! Thanks to all at Sweetwater!
