Lives up to its name
First I want to say the folks at Sweetwater are THE BEST and the only reason I didn't buy this bass from them was that it was out of stock. I ended up ordering direct from Fender.
After selling some of my older gear and then spending several years wandering the wilderness of new basses, I finally decided to just go for it and get the bass I really wanted, an American Ultra Jazz. And I absolutely love it.
The look is undeniably classic, but they have outdone themselves with these finishes. I got the Arctic Pearl because I liked the look of a white bass with the tort pickguard and rosewood w/block inlays, but "white" doesn't begin to describe it. The pearl effect gives it an iridescent depth that almost looks purple in some light, but always looks amazing.
I am blown away by the tones of this bass. Classic Jazz Bass sounds, of course, but with ZERO hum. And the active circuit gives you a huge range of modern tones as well. Tonight at my big band rehearsal I was able to get a classic Jaco growly bridge pickup tone on a funky Latin tune, an upright bass sound with the neck pickup, tone rolled off, and plucking over the neck, and a thoroughly modern R&B bass tone with both pickups, the active circuit on, mids rolled off, and bass and treble boosted a touch.
I had a few minor details I needed to address: I oiled the fretboard, adjusted the truss rod and intonation, and had to tighten the set screw on the pickup blend pot. But much of the need for adjustments came from shipping the bass from California to Minnesota in January! Plus these were all easy, DIY tasks that allowed me to get to know the bass and feel a personal connection to it. I also made it truly my own by installing a set of La Bella "white" nylon tapewound strings. These strings and the smooth neck make the bass an absolute joy to play. When I'm not playing it, I'm thinking about playing it. I don't think I've been this excited about a bass since the first one I got back in high school.
I have owned nearly a dozen Fender and Squier Jazz Basses over the past 30 years. Some have been better than others, but none have ever come close to this bass. It is simply the best. If you have the means but are on the fence about it, just go for it!

As a Geddy Lee wannabee, this is an amazing bass to have. I love the option of going between the passive and active options.
Beautiful, Sexy, and tone monster
Extremely flexible bass with wide range of voices. 3 band 18v preamp, active/passive mode and passive engages old school tone control. Plays great, sounds great, and white is spectacular!

Where to start, what a beautiful bass!
Replaced a MIM Jazz bass and the quality difference is amazing! The neck is smooth as butter. The 18v preamp is hot!, or if you want a warm passive tone just flip the switch. I tried to find a flaw and can't. Comes with a hard case that looks comfy enough to sleep in.

I love this bass
