Incredible Bass
I'd never been a Fender bass fan. I played a Jazz bass (many) years ago and couldn't control feedback.
I thought I'd never own or play a Fender until earlier this year when I purchased a 1968 Fender Telecaster bass. It had to be resurrected and challenged my luthier over a 2-month period. When it was finally delivered, I was really impressed with the playability and build quality - not to mention its ability to survive years of abuse until it came into my possession.
I had a several case of GAS (gear acquisition syndrome) and my search brought me to this sweet Fender Jazz bass and Sweetwater. I was most impressed with the roasted pine finish of this particular bass and purchased it in late August.
While the bass played alright out of the box, I decided to have my luthier perform a setup of the guitar and restring it with Elixir strings.
It now plays like a dream. I'll get to use it live for the first time this weekend with a band I've been trying to get into for the last 2-and-a-half years. I'm thinking they'll be impressed.
Way better than I expected! The low B actually sounds right!
Did not think I would love this bass as much as I do- But Damn this thing just talks/sings to me!
Cannot put this loving instrument down- Damn! she is just so pleasing to play!
The only change I did to this amazing instrument is give it a black pickguard and La Bella strings-
I am convinced that there some kind of positive vibe in the legacy of the Fender brand- I have multiple Fender Guitars and basses - and I feel the vibe in every one of them- so much so as I have a name for every one of my loves! From my first Fender Bass back in 1976- a natural finish P bass- I felt it! Had a few famous name basses before that first Fender - I thought they were great - But when I felt the vibe of the Fender- I sold them all!
I am 63 now - been playing for over 47 years and could not be any happier with this new 5 string Jazz bass!
Sweet!
In all honesty, I have never been a Fender bass fan; but I really like this instrument. Very well set up and playable out of the box, excellent and versatile sound, nice balance, and a reasonable weight. And the case is nice. This bass passes the look test in flying colors also. My only quibble is that I'm not crazy about the strings; they aren't bad and are easy on the fingers, but not quite my taste. If you are looking for a very solid, playable bass that won't destroy the bank, this one is worth a very serious look.
The One
There are only things to love about this bass.
The satin finished neck needs to be felt to be believed and coupled with the rolled fret edges, my left hand glides on this neck better than any bass I've owned or played.
The roasted pine body is lightweight and has a beautiful grain to it. I love the look of the pine so much that I bought a clear pickguard so it can be seen in its full majesty.
In terms of tone, it sounds exactly what you'd want from a jazz bass. Simple yet versatile controls giving you all that punchy, growling, zingy JB tone. The low B sounds as great as it can on a bass of this scale length.
The bass came almost perfectly set up, just needing some minor truss rod and saddle hight adjustments to get the action where I like it. No QC issues to speak of.
When I bought this bass I was looking for an instrument that I would be happy playing for the rest of my life and after having it for half a year now, ai know this is the one.
