JBL IRX-115S 1300-watt 15-inch Powered Subwoofer Reviews
The JBL IRX-115S fortifies your IRX active speaker system with 1,300 watts of rafter-shaking power. This active subwoofer’s 15-inch woofer includes a 3-inch voice coil, and it produces smooth, detailed low end all the way down to 35Hz. The IRX-115S includes selectable 80Hz, 100Hz, and 120Hz crossover points, which are optimized for IRX-series loudspeakers. A polarity switch optimizes your system’s response. This powered sub also sports a ported enclosure to enhance its output and minimize woofer noise. The IRX-115S was built for real-world use, with a lightweight, road-tested MDF cabinet and reinforced grille. At Sweetwater, we appreciate the IRX-115S’s ergonomic carry handles and built-in pole mount, which make transporting and installing this subwoofer a piece of cake.

Best bang for the buck under $
I wanted more low end for my PA system and this was the answer. Recently did 5 hours of music for our neighborhood block party. Over 100 people in our party and they all loved the output from the sub. I only drive them at half power and it was plenty of clean low end punch. No distortion whatsoever. Love this sub!!
Like a thunderstorm (in a good way)
You know that feeling in your torso that you get when low thunder is rumbling during a storm? Add this to a pair of JBL IRX-112s and you'll recreate it. The sub really rounds out the sound, is easy to use, and doesn't overpower. Mine came with a small cosmetic defect, but the Sweetwater customer service was very prompt in replying and extremely accommodating.
This is a little Bulldog !!!
Bought one to go with my EV 15" Powered Tops.
Wow, just wow ! This little Dog Woof's.
I was needing that bottom end to bring out the Kick Drum and Bass Guitar. Accomplished.
This speaker is fool proof ... basically just plug it in and it's good to go.
I call it a Bulldog because it is compact, stout, and seriously tough with 1300 watts of clean low end.
For the price point, you will be happy and JBL is known for quality. Buy one or two let the Dog bark, let it woof... you'll love it!
Thanks to Michael Duncan at Sweetwater, y'all rock !!!
Jbl IRX-115S
I already had 2 of these subs for live sound. They were enough for small venues up to about 200 people. Now I'm doing larger venues up to 500 people and it wasn't enough so I ordered 2 more of these. I am now using 4 subs with the jbl eon612s as mains. It's enough for the larger venues. Great bottom end and great mids and highs from the eon612s.
Great sub, sounds great BUT!
This is a rocking sub for the money, great build quality and materials, super as hell, and sounds amazing, it's pretty accurate if you set it up correctly, I crossover at 100hz. The only thing I HATE, is the automatic shutoff, and you have to turn it back on each time you leave it with out audio for awhile, they need to have the option, "on, auto, off" let me chose, it's a class D amp, so it's not amplifying till it see an audio signal, so it not using much power just idling. I would of given it 5, but it got dinged for that issue.
JBL IRX 115S
I bought 2 of these in March due to needing to make an emergency replacement. They sound fine and do a decent job in small to medium venues, indoor and outdoor. However, these just aren't rugged enough to be carried around weekly(2-3 gigs). If all you are going to do is place them somewhere and leave them set up they will be fine. In my opinion, the enclosures are not durable enough for extended periods of time of road use. I am very curious about my equipment and go to great lengths to treat it well and not throw it around or allow others to do it either. Despite my best efforts, the exteriors have become scratched up and have some corner tears and dings. Just be aware of this if you are a traveling band. I would still recommend them for short term small and medium venue use on the road.
Not what I expected
I didn't even use this out before sending it back because although there is a crossover in this thing it is meant to be used AFTER a top cabinet. Used a tone generator to verify what I was hearing - the through of this sends a full range signal so, if you expect the cross over to output the high passed signal, you'd be wrong. This thing is not what I would expect from a JBL speaker. My guess is this is aimed at DJs and not live sound support. Sweetwater and my sales engineer of course took it back - great customer service is the norm at Sweetwater.
Beware if you are not using IRX main speakers
I am used to subs that have crossovers, where I send the signal to the sub, it picks off the low frequencies, and the Thrus go to my main speakers with everything else. The IRX is -not- like that.
From JBL tech support in response to my query:
"The IRX115S does not have a High Pass Filter (HPF). So you would connect your audio source (mixer, DJ controller, etc..) to the top speakers (set HPF) and then connect the tops to the IRX115S sub (set crossover to 80Hz). The IRX108BT and IRX112BT top speakers have a HPF and pair great with the IRX115S sub."
JBL irx115s sub bass speaker
One of the worst we ever used , clips really easy , good for a home sterio but not pro audio , we are a DJ company and used a lot of different speakers, York ille great , alto is not bad for the price and don't peak so easy , Mackie USA made , older stuff is great.
